very good video. level by level progression is so helpful.
Thank you Hjörtur! I'm glad you liked the video. I'm working on the Drakewarden Ranger now... should be published on my channel within the next 5 days or so! Can't wait to share it with everyone. Cheers!
Hi really enjoyed this. Playing a Half Orc Bear Totem Barbarian with a Barbarian Tribe Member Background... I'm thinking of Multiclassing as a Swarm Keeper. I thought of ancestor spirits both human and orcish, to represent his swarm... possibly in conflict to represent his conflicted dual nature.
Hi Marcus, glad you enjoyed the video. I love the ancestor spirits idea and a Barbarian/Ranger build sounds like a fun character to play. Cheers!
Interesting
People said the ranger was underpowered before
Glad to see it’s more playable now
Indeed... looks like a lot of fun. I'd give a Ranger a try now, for sure.
i have a friend that combined swarm keeper with a spell called infestation and also spore druid ... he was a walking plague
Awwww yeah! I am glad to see that Infestation is getting some love. And wow, yeah. Swarmkeeper + Spore Druid would be a lot of fun... Hmmm... maybe a future video! Cheers Chris!
@@WallyDM you to pal can not wait for your next amazing build
@@chrishardy559 Thank you Chris, I appreciate this! Spoiler alert, if I get time to edit tonight I will be releasing my Undead Warlock character build tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
@@WallyDM YESSS! Just as im looking for a undead warlock build!
@@chrishardy559 Hooray!
fun flea = swarm idea
Thank you, my friend. :)
I just started a new campaign. Got level 3 at the end of last session and went swarmkeeper. Kobold Ranger with tiny lizards as my swarm. I picture some jumping off me and gliding around. Don't know how they will make me hover just yet.
Oh neat-o! That sounds like a fun build. I would either recommend an astronomical swarm of lizards... so many that they push you up 10-20 feet in the air... Or, since it is D&D, perhaps your little gliding lizards evolve with you as you level up... and sprout dragonfly-like wings? Enjoy! This ranger seems like a lot of fun!
Huzzah!
Indeed!
Your idea of using you Tabaxi trait of feline agility will not work with writhing tide to give you 20 feet of movement. As it is not your Character that is doing/giving that movement, it is basically your swarm that is moving/carrying you.
So your swarm lifts you and moves you, kind of like Bigby's Hand, it can pick you up and move you 60 feet, but if you want to move additional movement with your movement you have to get off the hand and move. That means if the swarm lifts you up 10 feet, you have to jump down 10 feet then use your movement.
OK I have a question and I can't find the answer maybe someone here can. If I am a lev 4 fallen aasimar swarm keeper with sharpshooter(all active) and I attack with a net. Normally nets lack damage however the gathered swarm ability bypasses it. So the question is would any of my bonus damage be applicable to the swarm? If not what if I cast hail of thorns?
Huzzah! Again!
I actually took inspiration from this and created my own swarmkeeper tabaxi with fleas. He was a street urchin (so urban ranger flavor), being a feline, is a bit of a trickster and thus earned favor from the traveler and thus multiclassed into trickster cleric. Haven't actually played this guy yet, still in the middle of fleshing it out to be more smooth and cohesive with it all. xD
Oh, forgot to mention. Going wisdom based with this one. Druidic warrior style for magic stone and throw whip. And all that cleric goodness. Spirit guardians... but just fleas!!! Named Fleabag
Oh nice! Glad I am glad the video could help with a few ideas. Spirit Guardian Fleas? That sounds hilarious. I dig it. I did get to play this character in a one shot adventure the other day. It was a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy your Ranger build as well. Cheers Grorl!
@@WallyDM nice! Indeed. Lots of inspiration from the simple idea of fleas and tabaxi. He was originally going to be a sage/hermit and nature cleric. But figured a more urban setting fit best. Indeed. Instead of typical stuff for spirit guardians, just a swarm of fleas gathered around you. Huzzah! Happy gaming Wally!
I must be missing something, I own all the books but i cant seem to find the Feat. Favored foe. Nor do i have the Deft Explorer to set up my Ranger. Anyone know whats happening and how i can get thoes 2 feat's?
Hey there Clevancie. These are not feats. The Favored Foe and Deft Explorer are Ranger main-class options that you can find in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, page 56.
Deft Explorer replaces Natural Explorer at 1st Level
Favored Foe replaces the Favored Enemy feature at 1st Level
Hope this helps. Good luck!
@@WallyDM OK I see. But I don't have the option to select those 2. Is the text already flavored that way? I'm not sure I understand how it replaces those 2. Sorry I'm new, just started like 3 days ago, so I'm tying to understand it all
@@victorfrankenstein23 No worries. Are you in D&D Beyond? If so, Edit your character and on the HOME tab, find Optional Features
Allow or restrict optional features for this character. Turn these on:
Optional Class Features
Customize Your Origin
Next, go to the CLASS Tab. Click the OPTIONAL FEATURE MANAGER.
Select the checkboxes here.
That should do it. :-)
@@WallyDM OMG!! Thank you! Lol, I feel like such an idiot 😅
@@victorfrankenstein23 No worries at all. Those options are well hidden. Easy to miss. Glad I could help. Cheers!
What background did you take?
Ah, sorry Dan, I must have forgotten to mention that. I took the Outlander Background. Cheers!
No sharpshooter?
Overpowered, Mary-Sue furry. I'm going back to OSR.
Everything definitely seems to be gettin' that power creep... but, definitely nothin' wrong with OSR. It's a fun system! Cheers!
@@WallyDM - It's just D&D and AD&D, without ridiculous characters, endless checks, and imposed politics, and catering to weird fetishes. That's enough for me.
@@fleetcenturion Fetishes? Seriously? It's a fantasy creature. Don't make it weird. No one else is.
@@AllThingsFascinate - I don't make it weird. They do. Half of them might as well be showing up to the table, wearing a mascot outfit.
