  • in this video {824} SMPS Output Is High, Fluctuating and Noise. i demonstrated how to repair a switch mode power supply SMPS model number, S-500-12 it is 12v 40 ampere 500 watt industrial power supply,
problem in this power supply that,
    1. output voltage were high than the rated voltage. it was providing above 17 volts instead of 12v.
    2. output voltage were fluctuating from 17 volt to 20 volt
    3. output unregulated and uncontrolled
    4. smps was providing tick tick and humming and whistling sound
i found that in this KA7500 / TL494 based half bridge topology power supply, the signal amplifier transistors for isolating pulse transformer damaged. these we 2SC2655 transistors and i replaced with 2N4923 medium power transistors

clicking / humming / whistling sounds are most of the time from transformer, it becomes due to saturation condition of the core. it is due to uncontrolled primary current, it finishes with proper conduction
if this sound is available at normal situation, in that time may be primary winding is loose or sometimes core halves become separated,

    • @ictrepairs6963

Could also be the under voltage protection triggering in? The 3,3v rail is supposed to provide at least ten times the current available in this condition. What do you think it could be the real cause of the issue?

Hello, I have a question. As a result of connecting a high current fuse to the power supply of the steam machine I use at home, I changed it because the mosfet, zener diode, ntc and 2 watt resistor on the primary floor failed. I can get 12 and 35 volts on both of the outputs, but when I connect the power board to the motherboard, it shows 12v as 2.5 volts and 35v as 16 volts, so the fan and water evaporator are not working. I also changed the capacitors at the outputs of the power board. What other parts on the power board should I check? thanks

    • @HaseebElectronics
      @HaseebElectronics  Год назад +1

when the smps transformer starts ringing, and it's RCD snubber is not functioning
it causes to elevate the voltage at bulk capacitor
at this situation destroy the capacitor, MOSFET etc

    • @HaseebElectronics
      @HaseebElectronics  Год назад +1

morover if the EMI filter is resonating beyond corner frequency of the filter
then that EMI filter also starts ringing or self oscillation
which causes to increase the input voltage of bridge rectifier
in this scenario, check ac voltage at ac input terminal
then compare ac voltage at bridge rectifier input pins
if ac input terminal and bridge rectifier input pins have a large difference
then the possibility is emi filter

    Nice video !
I like these way you show what you check and ...
    Well done it works !
Check it with the LED lamps as a load
and install the ventilator quick for a permanent cooling before testing
(and close the case. When a capacitor explode and it is closed = ok all persons are alive and without foil an fragments in the face + skin)
Thumps up : you cleaned our table = yes you are professional or as a amateur learned the hard way what can (and will) happen.
Thumps up : you have a weller soldering iron and a sucktion welding iron.
Thumps up : nice check (I desolder the big capacitors and check these (short circuit and the capaity value with a special instrument)
I hope your very big transistors have a low basis current . the smal worse transitor usally need low current for work.
And small transistors have better amplification ratio than the medium ones you used. Buttwell it works.
AdditionaI add aluminium cooling sheet metal for the full bridge rectifier.
Must be a very cheap brand because no manufacturer name at the sticker.
If checkfor the words X2 or Y2 at the RFI capacitor between low voltage and high voltage area.
If these are cheap types it is possible when these fail to have ... But well it is usuall in my country and I have used old capacitor in best condition from technical broken devices (and I can buy these in my area for low/medium amount of money if needed).
My thumps up for your video.
The digital multimeter have a (like all ditial ones) a slow conversion rat at the display. The voltage is jumping ...
Sometimes I check these with a (nor cheap) oscilloscope (and a transformer to isolate the scope ground in case of ...)
The light bulp in you main power cord is perfect fpr your safty and the circuit.

Thumps up : *YES GOOD REWORK TOOLS ARE IMPORTANT FOR BEST RESULTS*
Thumps up : *THANKS A LOT*
regarding transistors, the medium power transistor is very close to the original transistor
yes it is cheap brand with compromised quality
i am using this lamp just only for video purpose, otherwise the bench based series lamps are away from the camera range,
      please accept my best regards
