  • In this video number {1070}, Why PFC is used in SMPS? Power Factor Correction, I explained pfc in smps switch mode power upply circuit. it is volatge booster section, which boosts the rectified dc voltage. it supports the pwm controller to regulate output voltage. if the line volatge drops, this volatge booster maintains on dc rail.

      GD100-011G-4-PV .
      I accidentally reversed the incoming poles from the solar plates, where by what look like two resistors on top of each other blew up.
      My problem is that I can't tell their ratings. I searched the internet but with no avail.
      Can you be of help ?

    This is a very interesting topic. It would be good to visually see PSU with PFC circuit connected to multimeters and oscilloscope at multiple points (switching IC, PFC IC etc) to see actual changes in input voltage and switching duty cycle when load and input voltage is changed while the PSU is working. If you have adjustable load and adjustable power supply maybe you can do this in a future video.

      there is bridge rectifier based PFC
      and the other is Bridgeless PFC circuit

    Great explanation! I was wonder if the flashing in the series bulb in most of your video is due to the PFC circuit ramping up the voltage in steps to slowly and more efficiently charge the bulk capacitor? Can you see the bulb flashing with your eyes or is it an effect of the camera sync. Thanks again and have a great weekend.

      yes the series lamp flashes and it is observed visually
      it is due to linear increase in smooting capacitor
      until the volatge value on DC rail is not maintained, the PFC controller tries to use maximum duty cycle
      which results to dropping the line voltage due to series lamp, which causes to turn off PFC controller
      thus line volatge regain, and PFC controller restrts
      this reboot process remains active until the volatge are maintained on DC rail

    Excellent explanation sir..... learning many concepts from your videos...one doubt.....if pfc controler is there then ,will there be necessary for output feedback to pwm controller,for output regulation ,or pfc will manage by its own.....

      PFC controller maintains voltage on DC rail.
      PWM needs feedback to compensate output variations caused by load

    So, PFC controller is also switching at very high frequency as each 50 Hz period starts with very low voltage ? So it also ameliorates the power factor as current is now taken whole the 50 Hz period ?

    Selamün aleyküm kardeşim bir sorum var. Bu videodaki 12:36 civarındaki yerde tl431 ve oktokuplöre gelen bağlantı yolu aynı hat üzerinden geliyor. Bu doğru mu yoksa yanlışlıkla mı çizildi. Doğru ise oktoküplör GND ile bağlantısını nasıl sağlıyor da led yanıyor😮 tl431 in altındaki dirençin bağlı olduğu GND den mi devreyi tamamlıyor😊

    So basically PFC exists only because of different main voltages in different countries when high amperage output is required? If all voltage was 240V, PFC would not be needed?

      It compensates the line variations.
      It assists the PWM controller to maintain output side of the SMPS

    assalamu alaikum, i have a problem in my smps 12 v 20A, why not showing 5 v refference voltage in uc3845 ic , refference voltage showing 650mv. , vcc showing 8v. after i load the led 50w bulb its flickering, what is the problem?

      most of the unipolar magnetic switching topologies need snubber circuits (such as flyback, forward,).
      bidirectional magnet (resonant power supplies) are free from snubbers

      Power factor correction
      In smps It is called PFC BOOST CONVERTER
      in this power supply it is "PFC BOOST CONVERTER bridge based, non-isolated"

Nevertheless, this response from you, full of many bla bla, speaks volumes of your shallow knowledge on the subject. No explanation is to the point. Please search for the part name that has been used in the circuit and study well. These are non-polar capacitors. When used in series in AC supply, these produce reactive resistance. This is dependent on its value in mfd and hz of AC. I don't expect that you may digest any more knowledge on it. Happy ignorant expert.
