Just sharing, here... In the USA, we have "Painter's Tape." It is similar to brown masking tape, but the adhesive leaves no residue, when the tape is removed. It is usually blue, in color. When I clean my bench top, I use this type of tape to pick up the tiniest bits of metal, that the brush misses. It is also useful for securing a PCB to the bench, when soldering. It has a thousand uses, on my bench, and I always keep it at hand. Again, in the USA, using a light bulb in series as a current limiter is called a "Dim Bulb Current Limiter." It is also (incorrectly) called a "Dim Bulb Tester." It requires a common incandescent, or halogen, bulb(s). LED bulbs will not work and will not protect you. You can mix and match different wattage bulbs, in parallel and series, to obtain the specific current that you desire to use. You mentioned that a resistor may be used to discharge a capacitor, but then you used your screwdriver to short the cap pins. With all due respect, this is a poor and dangerous method that can damage the cap. A "Capacitor Stinger" probe can be made from a high value resistor, having a sufficient wattage rating, a few bits of wire, heat shrink and chop sticks. Many DIY solutions may be found on Google. Constructing one might make a good, short, instructional video, for you. I hope these things help. I take no responsibility for what any individual makes from my suggestions. Each person is responsible for their own research, knowledge and safety.

@@HaseebElectronics In the light of all said above, a 100W incandescent lamp does not always offer the needed protection, simply because it needs relatively too much initial current in order to glow permanently (if something is still wrong after a repair, or even if it is used for a simple verification test that everything is O.K with the power supply under test).
The best method is to use each time a bulb that has a power less than or equal to the power of the power supply under repair/test.
As a practical example, using a 100W lamp in series to the input of a defective USB telephone charger under repair does not really make sense. In such cases I use a 3W night lamp, while in general repairs I prefer a 40W lamp.
On the other hand, an inverter welding machine may need a 350 to 500w lamp for the same test...

      perfect
      I normally use 60 watt
      100 watt
      200 watt
      300 watt
      500 watt halogen rod
      depending on the load size

    • @HaseebElectronics
      @HaseebElectronics  Месяц назад

exactly it is series load connected in series with input line of UUT / DUT. during normal operation the lamp will not effect too much
but in case of hogh current consumption by UUT/DUT (during any failure / error / abnormality) the series lamp will protect the circuit from any further damage
for example, if there is anything short circuited in UUT/DUT, the lamp will glow full instead of any possible damage in the UUT due to any unexpected short cirfcuit

I think what you are saying about the lamp is that it causes a large voltage drop across its filament if a short occurs in the circuit. A shorted current will flow, but it will be greatly reduced due to the voltage drop in the lamp. The short could occur after a number of otherwise good components. Is that correct?

if the circuit is good, and lamp is higher wattage for example 100 watt. that time the lamp will not glow.
just in startup, it will glow for a moment, that time the empty capacitor tends to draw surge current for initial charging,
if circuit have some short circuit, that time the lamp drops all the voltage across itself, and protects the circuit from more damages
