Lets take a moment to honor the legendary Steve Prestwich drummer extraordinaire and the genius who wrote this masterpiece.❤ RIP Steve you are sorely missed.
This song wss written by Steve Prestwich, the drummer. RIP in 2011. He was sitting up next to Ian Moss singing, playing the maracas. This song was released in 1982. Still relevant today.
So true. Every time I heard this song in the last year I cannot help but think of the people in Ukraine fighting off Russian horrible invaders from their lives there and then try to rebuild their life and hmes after it. Putin will never steal the heart away from the Ukranian people that reject everything about Putin and his sick twisted thinking. Amazing song written by Steve.
How can I go home and not get blown away… how can I return from this war zone and avoid being shot down again only by the trauma and sadness that i know I won’t be able to escape. He’s willing himself to pull through it, to hold on to his soul through the inevitable struggles that await “ain’t nobody gonna steal this heart away”. Brilliant song written by Steve Prestwich (RIP), drummer for the band.
Cold Chisel are such an incredibly talented band, they all sing & are all amazing artists. This band is so tight! Their live performance of Bow River is the best!
What a great anthem and gritty honest heartfelt performance by one of Australia’s greatest bands. So glad I had the privilege of seeing these guys as both a young and an older fan. Did you notice not a singleiPhone being held up in the audience. Everyone was invested in the performance.
The crowd knows what's coming.... that's why. The song is from 1982 they've had 20 years of listening to it. Everyone is gonna interpret things differently. But to me the lyrics "You and I had our sights set on something... Hope it doesn't mean our days are numbered" is more about an argument between the couple being a "war" than being a post Vietnam war song (Chisel has a few of those already). It's a fight about goals in the relationship perhaps, or about a goal that is being destroyed by the breakdown of the relationship. It's followed up with "When the war is over, got to start again... Try to hold a trace of what it was back then". To me that means reconciliation after a fight. Trying to bring the relationship back to what it was before the fight. Hope this helps. Love your coverage.
Cold chisel deserved AC/DC like world recognition. Their music means something and defines an era. As a kid born in the 70s this isn’t just a song. It’s a time and place. A generation lost in time
This is what happens in Australia 🇦🇺 our artists won't be told how they'll be marked Why not many Aussies make it in usa Promoter's can't change them or control their music beside steal all the royalties from the music 🎶 Even happening today look up Guy Sebastian modern Aussies singer song writer he's the modern day Jimmy and john or known here as farnsey and barnsey Sadley most of the world missing out but great for us we get more of them go Australia 🇦🇺 Stay true to yourselves guys 🦘🇦🇺👍
I saw Chisel at the Horden in Sydney (this tour) 22yrs ago with a bunch of high school mates. I actually cried the whole concert as i couldn't believe i was actually there & seeing the band our parents loved & we kids were all brought up on. So yeah nah it does get pretty emotional. Aussie music, our own pub rock genre, is so different from any other band, group or whatever in the world. Its our music, it's our life & apart from our Kiwi siblings across the ditch, we are just so far away from the rest of the world & we with our Kiwi siblings where so lucky & spoilt to have bands like Chisel to ourselves.
When the war is over, got to get away Pack my bags to no place, in no time, no day You and I we used each other's shoulder Still so young but somehow so much older How can I go home and not get blown away You and I had our sights set on something Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered I've got plans for more than a wanted man All around this chaos and madness Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness Only choice to face it the best I can When the war is over, got to start again Try to hold a trace of what it was back then You and I we sent each other stories Just a page I'm lost in all its glories How can I go home and not get blown away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
I’ve watched allot of Cold Chisel reaction vids. What I love about this one is you actually talk about and discuss the lyrics and the songs meaning. Most if not all just talk about he singing and instruments, which are Awseome, but the song writing and lyrics and their meanings are down to earth, deep and meaningful. Thanks for talking about the songs meaning. Great to see. Well done 👍
One of the many incredible and legendary songs by Cold Chisel, and this is no exception. If your have not seen it as yet, and to true understanding of Jimmy Barnes, the man, the performer, a true Aussie Icon in every sense of the word, then you have to see Working Class Boy. It really gives an insight as to his up bringing and the struggles he faced as a kid at that time. Totally and thoroughly recommend it
This is an "acoustic version".. a "reunion" after MANY years apart. Possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever written. My fave.. Mossys voice is so pure, with a slight American twang (US boy grew up in Central Australia).. The way their voices harmonise and their timbres interact is just sublime.. Did ya pick Jims slight Scottish Aussie accent? He sounds Scot to me and Im part Scot haha. There is a John Farhnam version with Barnsey.. and Farnhams version is beyond ridiculous! So talented. So good. Written by the drummer, Steve Prestwich (R.I.P.). And Chisel (as us Aussies call them) was a band that every single member wrote a hit song! (Not many bands have that!)
Hi guys, Cold Chisel is arguably Australia’s most loved band & I assume you have also seen the great John Farnham performing The Voice & a completely different cover version of the Beatles Help. Also watch him covering the great AC/DCs Long Way To The Top, If You Wanna Rock n Roll. However, for possibly the best duet you have ever seen, watch John Farnham & another Aussie, Olivia Newton John performing Please Don’t Ask Me from a live concert The Main Event. Absolutely stunning. Enjoy….
It's a really good song and there is alot of people that missunderstand what the song is about (which is understandable). But the song is acutally about a relationship breakup, not actually a vet comming home. not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but that's what it is according to Steve Prestwich (R.I.P) who was the song writer I believe.
Really, it's for anyone who goes off and lives through difficulty and life changing events. I had been away from my family almost ten years and when I went back to visit there was no longer any real connection with them and there was no way I felt I could belong like I did before. My values and ideals had changed far too much and I was happy to get back to the life I had built up. It's very odd to find yourself being thought of as a local legend when you know in yourself it's not deserved.
This song is not about a physical war. It is about war in a love relationship that's gone sour and all that's now left is the heart ache. You can literally hear the writers heart breaking in this song.
There is yet another side to Cold Chisel that you haven't seen yet they tried to enter the American market and got rejected so they wrote a song about it and let the feelings be known
In any other band Ian "Mossy" Moss would be the lead singer..... In Cold Chisel he is the other singer, but then he was competing against Jimmy "Bansey" Barnes! Fabulous Aussie music.
The "war" was two people in a troubled relationship. They don't want it to end ... but they are at war with each other. How you could not understand the lyrics is beyond me 😢
Lets take a moment to honor the legendary Steve Prestwich drummer extraordinaire and the genius who wrote this masterpiece.❤ RIP Steve you are sorely missed.
doesn't matter how many times ive seen this it still brings me to tears
Same here mate
You're not alone there. This rendition in particular always gets the water works going. Just so much raw emotion in both Mossy and Barnesy
Same here mate. Every time 😢

*All around me is chaos and madness! .........More relevant than ever*

On the money.
Such an incredible song sang by an incredible band. The way Jimmy comes in towards the end all guns blazing just takes it to another level
Yep lurks in the background with a few ad-libs then BOOM!
Cold Chisel are such an incredibly talented band, they all sing & are all amazing artists. This band is so tight! Their live performance of Bow River is the best!
The reference to 'war' in the song is a metaphor for life.
What a great anthem and gritty honest heartfelt performance by one of Australia’s greatest bands. So glad I had the privilege of seeing these guys as both a young and an older fan. Did you notice not a singleiPhone being held up in the audience. Everyone was invested in the performance.
God level singing right there. Thanks for the reaction guys
So much amazing talent here in Australia. thank you for reacting to Cold Chisel = one of our best
How Bless growing up listening to Chisel first seen them aged 14yrs at a pub in Adelaide
Cold Chisel. Aussie legends. And one the best live bands you will see in your entire life. Brilliant!
The crowd knows what's coming.... that's why. The song is from 1982 they've had 20 years of listening to it.

No phones. Everyones engaged with the performance. How good 👍
My favourite cold chisel song!!!
me too, though Flame Trees comes VERY close.
Appreciate greatly your American perspective and please know we love you guys and can’t wait for you to visit us all here in Australia.
Nice one 👍
This is what happens in Australia 🇦🇺 our artists won't be told how they'll be marked
Why not many Aussies make it in usa
Promoter's can't change them or control their music beside steal all the royalties from the music 🎶
Even happening today look up Guy Sebastian modern Aussies singer song writer he's the modern day Jimmy and john or known here as farnsey and barnsey
Sadley most of the world missing out but great for us we get more of them go Australia 🇦🇺

Her eyes are watery and he's sniffling. Love the reaction. Heartfelt ❤
Beautiful. Loved this acoustic version ❤
its the final break up of a relationship sung in a metaphor of war
There’s no way you can put any more emotion into a song like that, than what Barnsy does
Just found your channel. You guys are awesome. I love this song so much
Always our number one legends of music, phenomenal and never gets boring.
When the war is over, got to get away
Pack my bags to no place, in no time, no day
You and I we used each other's shoulder
Still so young but somehow so much older
How can I go home and not get blown away
You and I had our sights set on something
Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered
I've got plans for more than a wanted man
All around this chaos and madness
Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness
Only choice to face it the best I can
When the war is over, got to start again
Try to hold a trace of what it was back then
You and I we sent each other stories
Just a page I'm lost in all its glories
How can I go home and not get blown away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
This is the acoustic version( their "in the round" tour) Vale Steve Prestwich.

I love how they keep it simple, don’t go full blow like it could, but you get every single bit of the power possible, but under tight control.
Neer disappoints watching this masterpiece being reacted to.
man, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it's a love song.
The 'war', being a relationship that's turned bad.
I read that same thing in an interview with Mossie .
One of the many incredible and legendary songs by Cold Chisel, and this is no exception. If you've only heard the chill side of Chisel, then you need to check out their rock side - You Got Nothing I Want or Lay Down Your Guns.
Guns is solo Jimmy

The war story of the song is really a metaphor for a hard break up of a relationship which is what's really being sung here
Exactly
this is one of the best aussie songs of all time, absolute ripper!
mossy the aussie brian may :)
My favourite chisel song and there are so many great ones
It's more about a relationship breakdown than soldiers. It's about protecting yourself from further heartbreak.
I first saw them as a teenager way back in the 70s
Mossy is THE man!! Always!!
You should also watch John Farnham do his cover of this song. Jimmy and John are old friends and have done concerts together.
If you haven't yet you have to check out Bow River
Beautiful. Now watch John Farnham's version
I’ve always thought of this as a beautiful love song, rather than a song about veterans
That's because it is. Steve said it was about a relationship breakup.
This song is not about a physical war. It is about war in a love relationship that's gone sour and all that's now left is the heart ache. You can literally hear the writers heart breaking in this song.
If you want some hyped up Chisel tracks:
Standing On The Outside
Rising Sun
Bow River
You Got Nothing I Want
Shipping Steel
The “war” isn’t a war, they’re not soldiers, this song is asking about what do I do after being released from prison
The song is more about love an fights between lovers not so much war as in army but the trails an tribulation of a relationship
There is yet another side to Cold Chisel that you haven't seen yet they tried to enter the American market and got rejected so they wrote a song about it and let the feelings be known
Classic 👏
In any other band Ian "Mossy" Moss would be the lead singer..... In Cold Chisel he is the other singer, but then he was competing against Jimmy "Bansey" Barnes! Fabulous Aussie music.
Written by the late Steve Prestwitch (drummer).
The "war" was two people in a troubled relationship. They don't want it to end ... but they are at war with each other. How you could not understand the lyrics is beyond me 😢
You have to understand Chisel are gods in Australia.
For good reason. World class !!!
about relationships
not war
Exactly I keep saying to people don’t be so literal
I believe it’s more of a song about relationships. One if my favourite versions of a favourite song
You need to check John Farnham's cover of this song
Gotta check out Ren, my guys.
Chalk outlines
Hi Ren
Sick boi
The hunger
Just to get you started...
Trust me.
You're welcome. ❤
It's not about veterans It's about the break up of a relationship
👍
Americans thinking all war is actual war they started. Could just be a local dispute between lovers.
Its not a war song. I always thought it was a love song
I've noticed that there are 2 wolf hunterz on you tube which is a bit confusing maybe one you should be coyote hunterz
please stop saying thisis about veterans returning from war, listen to the lyrics, it's so clearly a love song.
Coked out presenters.
