The great Aussie pub rock era was so underrated and that the rest of the world would have fallen in love with but sadly now in most pubs here they are filled with poker machines instead today. I feel so great full that I lived through it and it’s so much of what’s made me who I am today Vale Aussie rock

There's a shitload of Aussie bands that kick it,that you've never heard of.
When I was 25 in '90,I lived in the UK for 3 yrs & was amazed that they'd never heard Cold Chisel,The Angels,The Divinyls,Australian Crawl.....(so many more). All bands that were Aussie music staples.

Most Australian bands in the 80s started out as pub bands. Pub rock is a culture in Australia- or was back then- it’s what people did in their spare time- pubs and live music! As others have said they soon became much bigger than any pub could handle! PS Bow River must be next !

It was always a real buzz to see Cold Chisel because the atmosphere was electric and the songs were real rock and roll with some ballads thrown in. The lyrics Meant something. Hi from Australia Didy! New subscriber here. 🙂
Yes, you’re correct Steve Preswich (founding and long term member) sadly passed from brain cancer in 2011. His replacement is former Divinyls’ drummer, Charlie Drayton.
In Australia, the pub era shaped many great bands / musicians. The musicians got immediate feedback from live crowds, so they quickly worked out how to read a crowd and what of their music would be successful. In turn, because Australians saw so many quality live bands, we quickly became discerning and wouldn’t tolerate rubbish acts. Only the best bands got repeat gigs.
By the time Cold Chisel tried the American market they were confident in their abilities and they knew their appeal lay in them being a powerhouse of a band. However American music producers felt they needed to be toned down for an American audience and tried to manipulate and change them. This did not sit well with Cold Chisel and the fallout from our wild boys probably didn’t go down too well with American music producers either, lol. See the song written by Cold Chisel regarding some American music producers. It’s pretty angry, lol: “You Got Nothing I Want”. ruclips.net/video/-BiJKq7ynms/видео.html
Cold Chisel did tour Germany, Paris, and London in the 80’s. I believe they were popular in Germany.
    Hope this helps. 🙂
PS, Kylie is so tiny, she might as well not exist, lol. 😉 Sorry, she’s not my cup of tea either. Some of us in Australia call her ‘The Singing Budgie’.

Pub bands is not a derogatory term. In the 60s 70s and 80 there was no such thing as music festivals where artists tour the country and perform. Instead they hired a vam and travelled all over Australia and performed in pubs. In those there were some pubs that could hold 1000+ drinkers. If you could hold their attention and get them to listen to you, you definitely had something special. the Easybeats, Cold Chisel and the legendary AC/DC were pub bands. John Farnham, a much loved Australian legend, was never a pub band.

Wondering if his girl is still back there and will accept him back, what will his family and peers in town think of him when he returns home?
He is fresh out of jail and a free man, but his life is going to be a s$%^ show as he struggles to regain his good reputation and not get shunned by everyone.
He is stepping out of jail straight into a high pressure cooking pot.

You must check out The Divinyls a Great band and in my view extremely underrated. Also Midnight Oil a great band for live music like no other. Check Oils on the water

You are right, this sound has almost fully disappeared. The actual soul of music has gone as soulless music industry types took over in the 90's and have gradually eroded the fabric of music to such an extent that kids today only listen to mindless gang culture filth that is evil by nature and has no heart or depth whatsoever. Believe it or not this is a pretty scaled back version of a great song most Australians would have heard or know by heart. Good reaction mate, subscribed.

I was in my teens and early twenties when this music came out. All the bands went through their apprenticeship if you like performing in the pubs and clubs and developed their craft. As they matured this is what we got, pure magic. 🦘🦘🪃🪃😉😉👍👍
