I'll take an overall downgrade at RG if it means Risner just doesn't give up those immediate pressures 2-3 times a game like Ed does on a regular basis.

He gets beat so bad on those plays, how can a QB trust his side?

Exactly this. Jeremiah Sirles talks about this. It’s not just the lost reps that Ingram has. It’s that he consistently has 2-4 plays per game where he completely whiffs and drives get blown up. There’s a big difference between losing quickly and losing slowly on the line and Ingram is a disaster rep waiting to happen.

Great explanation. The detail was excellent, and exponentially more nuanced than most comments about these two players. I rate Ingram's strength as a critical pre-requisite for success at guard, but I think it's great that the Vikes have three viable options at OG. I just hope the Risner experiment doesn't cost us a game.

Great job presenting the problems of the Vikings left guard Risner vs Ingram for both fit & productivity. My quick thoughts. 1) Vikings offense needs run & pass balance. This balance is key to Vikings getting "Plus QB play" from Sam. Pass first-Alpha QB is not Sam D right now. 2) Risner & Garret Bradbury lined up next to each other destroys the run game. We need Aaron Jones to be healthy and ready to make the run game go in the playoffs: Balance will be key for Sam & offense. 3) PFF grades are a solid metric: Players are measured & graded by their film & production. 4) Of course 1 game is not a players career. But analyzing Win-Loss-Even lets PFF and every football staff at every level analyze player performance to make informed decisions on playing time. 5) I like this kind of content and especially like when the focus is tight - like this look at Ingram & Risner. ay yo this was a HELLA breakdown on o-line play. with that said, i would take the upgrade at pass-pro over the run blocking. remember, engram almost got Sam's ribs broken

Great explanation. Risner is a more compatible version of mid than Ingram is for this offense.

Ingram isnt getting better, he is a backup not a starter

Crazy seeing how many people want Risner over Ingram. Doesn't mean they're wrong, as it's all subjective. I just personally don't think people properly value what Ingram provides to a team that's consistently been woeful in run efficiency since KOC arrived. Add in that he's truly the only junkyard dog, glass eater type of the 5 OL and that mentality and attitude is needed

Would this work: Ingram as the lead back in short yardage situations?

Nah they got Ham for that. You still want a little agility from fullbacks cause they often have to sort out angles really fast. Different than OL pulls

Ingram gets the QB killed too much.
