Tessa, I'm smiling at the comments like yours, because I'm exactly the same. Have been going more freeze dried preps for shelf life, storage space, weight, and nutrition, but is expensive and don't want to open a precious 10 can to try and test. Wish there were samples for sale.
@@reginastratton5031 I think having some freeze dried stocked is a great idea although oricey. There are no additives. Meat, fruit, and veg have a super long shelf life. Lightweight and can store on stop shelf and not have to worry about it collapsing. Have had many prepared freeze dried meals in military and camping. Much better tasting than can or pouch. You will need your spices as if buying fresh when making a meal.
I was raised in England after the second ww. When you bought butter it was rationed and one person got four ounces per week. The sales person placed a sheet of parchment paper and using a pair of wooden paddles they separated off four onces from the huge chunk of butter and smacked the small chunk into a rectangle and wrapped it into a neat package.
Augason Farms tells us that it works for adding to dry ingredients in a recipe, for sprinkling on veggies, etc (which you noted), and rehydrating for use as a butter spread. I tried using it in my instant potato soup mix, but I couldn't taste the butter. Maybe I'm not supposed to use it in recipes that use boiling water! 🤷♀️ Thank you for this video! I think people really appreciate having Augason Farms dehydrated and freeze dried foods explained. One thing we don't want is to be in an emergency, and not knowing how to make "food" from our cans, into the edible stage of food.. God bless you, dear! Up next? Baking for the holidays! 🎁
In situations such as not being able to taste it in your soup, it may help to put some in a spice bottle to shake on each bowl. I do that with parmesan cheese for creamy soups (potato, chowders etc.) It really pops up the flavor. I'm thinking this would give a more pronounced pop of butter flavor as well.
Great review! We have four Unopened cans of this powdered butter. Our first can was $17.07 (currently $19.94 Amazon Prime). We have heard that for cooking you need a small amount of cooking oil since during the drying process also dries out the butter fat.
Sorry , I gave some incorrect info on butter powder. I do have this but it was the whole egg powder that I said was over 100$/ can. The butter powder is much less expensive.
@@AC-qi9wo yes whole egg powder, augason farm is $100/#10 freeze dried on Amazon. I bought one for about 35$ several months ago. Amazon had it for 89$ couple of weeks ago, but selling for $100 and over. Ridiculous, haven't used yet, but they say it's good for baking. Happy to see this lady used the butter ,now I know not to use it in a fry pan. Y
I appreciate this product review because I have zero experience with powdered butter. I been thinking that powdered butter deserves pantry space so seeing that it can be turned into a stick of butter was nice surpris. Thank you!
I bet you could reconstitute it with an oil, so it would melt properly. A mild, flavorless oil should work. I have seen butters infused with olive oil as well, so it could probably be done with whatever is on hand. If that's only water, at least we know it works and tastes like butter. Thank you for another great video. 😁❤️
Thank you for your solid video! 1:05 let's see what butter powder does when you sprinkle it on toast and potatoes and on hot steamed veggies. We can bake with it?! Show us what you've baked with freeze dried butter, please!
Bought 2 cans of this several months ago at about 35$ / can , now I've seen it over or near 100$/ can. Haven't used yet, so it's good to see someone do it. Saving for when butter is just too much.
So it's butter flavored stuff lol. I get a lot of Augason Farms ingredient foods. I have also made lots of ghee. More butter in the fridge waiting to be made into more ghee .
I really like the Augason butter powder also! I bought some on Amazon almost 3 years ago! Wow! Where has the time gone, Jinne? It was cheap compared to prices nowadays on different butter powders.
So, went on Amazon and bought 2 cans just now (through Jinni’s link 😉) and they were $19.94 a piece. It makes 204 table spoons worth in that big can. Now this is how I figure it: 204T divided into 1 stick portions (8T) = 25.5 sticks. 4 sticks to a pound of butter, so 25.5 divided by 4 = 6.38lbs of butter. $19.94 divided by 6.38 lbs = $3.13 per pound. I usually see an average of $5 per 1lb. 6.38 lbs x $5 = $31.90. So you not only SAVED $11.96, but it’s shelf stable for 25yrs! No fridge or freezer needed. Yay!
I have heard that butter powder is only good for baking, so it was nice to see you spreading it on bread. Also, it was good to see what the result was when attempting to fry with the butter. I like to see things with my own eyes, so the demonstration was helpful.
I bought 2 cans of this butter powder and 2 cans of honey powder when they were on sale at Amazon. Should be pretty good on biscuits, bread or pancakes.
Yes, Jinnie. I love that you show us your dehydrated preps and how to make meals or mix ingredients. I am an Augason Farms girl, myself. They have such good sales and I can get more for my family than some other 'just as good or better quality' dehydrated foods. I have several of the butter cans and appreciate you showed how you use this item. The only Augason Farms can I have opened is the pancake so I could show my husband they have quality foods. You're the best!
Thanks for sharing - I've been wondering about using it in baking .. Since it doesn't act like "oil" in the frying pan, it doesn't melt on toast, etc ... Would it actually work when used as the "oil" in a recipe? I may have to experiment - better find out now before it becomes a necessity. I have used it sprinkled on 'wet' veggies, potatoes, etc .. and the taste is awesome ... Again, Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours !
I want to try doing butter powder in my freeze dryer if Augustines Farms can do butter powder I think I can too I just gotta figure out the ratios and the fat Contant
Thanks for posting. I bought some but haven't used it yet. I enjoyed listening to the fork scrape the inside of the cup. Kinda like nails on a chalkboard. Hahaha 😅
I'm not sure if that's the brand I bought but I bought some stuff of that nature on Amazon. Powdered eggs, powdered butter, powdered heavy whipping cream. Not sure if I bought powdered buttermilk but I know I thought about buying it. That stuff is going to be for emergency use only. I hope I never need to use them.
I'm curious about using this butter in baked goods. If it doesn't melt in a pan, how can it melt in baked goods? Still good to have ob hand! Thanks for this review! Blessings to everyone 🥰

Thanks! I stocked up on this earlier in the year knowing butter (and other goods) would go way up. I usually keep a bag of Anthonys, but added Augason anytime it has been on sale. Sub $20 is good. Butter powder is pretty much the same across brands, but haven't found the same to be true for eggs. I also have Augason egg powder purchased in 2017 and again in early 2022, but haven't used it yet. Curious if anyone has experience with an egg powder that can perform for just making up some eggs. For non egg egg replacer, Bobs Red Mill is really good. I often use that instead of fresh eggs even in the best of times.
Well, you answered my question. I was about to ask if it'll melt like normal. What about maybe just a little more water? Do you know if it will mix up similar to creamy consistency?
Eight days later and still no luck finding powdered butter here in Comie Canaduh. No I lie like a rug, .. I found one pound jugs of powdered butter for $38 and I can not justify that kind of price. When you make your butter roll add olive oil in place of some of the water and you can then fry with it.

I love my rice with tons of butter. I do have concerns that it didn't melt. Does it melt when you put it say in Rice or a hot potatoe?
I just sprinkle it on dry and it does seem to melt on the potatoes and veggies, but not in a pan, which is very odd.
