Augason Farms - Butter Powder- My honest opinion

- This is just as you would think, makes a nice butter spread.
Preppers always will have some kind of freeze dried food in the pantry. Some more than others. There are a lot of good reasons for this, mostly long shelf life and a large selections of options. Not all preppers care about the long term storage at the price point. Others like me, mix it up a bit as well as freeze drying my own food.

Considering buying the only Freeze Dryer I think is perfect:

Made with 100% real butter, Augason Farms Butter Powder adds rich flavor to popcorn, soup, sauce, and vegetables. Hydrate with water for creamy, spreadable butter or use in its powder form for a refrigeration-free, real-butter substitute in baking recipes.
Just ordered a container of the Augustan Farms Butter Powder and whole egg powder.
Thanks for the tutorial.
cool, I have not tried the egg powder... as I just make my own with the freeze dryer.
Thank you so much for this! I'm trying to decide what to freeze dry myself, make in the clutch, OR purchase pre-made products. Your review definitely helped in my decision.
Glad it was helpful! I liked the taste factor..
Nice, good video. Just found it. I have a few cans of that in the basement, always wondered how it was used or tasted. I appreciate you making this video for us.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing. In future reviews O would like to see how it works in a couple of ways. For example, the butter. You spread it on a piece of bread, not to bad tasting, creamy, okay now how about replacing butter with the powder and make a small batch of cookies or put it on pancakes etc. Just a thought.
I wish I baked more.. but I understand you. Thanks
New subscriber. Thank you for the review. I have also been told that if you replace a bit of the water with a bit of oil, it will taste more like butter.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks. I have some Augason Butter but haven't tried it.
I have 4 cans.. I think it will last a very long time, as I do not use butter much. Thanks
My mom and I tried this on toast composted to the new Zealand canned butter. NZ butter was great, this stuff not so great. But we have yet to add some oil to it to try to improve the taste, but yes, for baking ot so be great. Love those videos. Thank you
Thanks! it will work in a pinch, and thats its main purpose. Real butter is so much better.
What is composted toast? Sounds gross!
@dougofford6567 lol. I don't know what I was trying to say. I think maybe comparing it to. We tried augason farms and the new Zealand butter that morning. 🙄🤦♀️🤷♀️
I saw on a video that someone said their electric bill ran in the hundreds per month extra because of the freeze dryer. That, added with the cost of the special oil it needs seems like it isn’t worth it to own a freeze dryer.
I do buy the better brand of oil, but only change it every 50 batches or so. Also, correct on the electric, when running it is like a 2w aircon in costs.
One point to make is once you open them cans, you’ve got to eat them with in one year😊
yeah.. once open.. go..thanks
@@PHExpatPrepperso I wouldn’t be able to vacuum seal portions?
@@rosemary599 you sure can.. toss in a new O2 packet.. good to go for long term again.
Hello watching this vedio
Bill good day!
New subsciber here.
Where to buy Augason farms fresh dried food in the Philippines?
Amazon.. Just make sure to sort\check the FREE shipping to the PH, and also watch for sales.
Yeah it does Not need to be refrigerated
Question if I may. So when you package stuff like this in mylar do you then have to repackage it into new mylar every time you use some? I'm not sure how Mylar works but is it something like the original package where once you open it for use you can't seal it back up with the same expectations of long-term preservation?
In my case I put the rest of the can into a larger bag, with new o2 absorbers. I could package several smaller ones. As long as you removed the o2, and the package is sealed. It is good.
@@PHExpatPrepper So you do need a new mylar bag after each use?
It would depend on your use case, and portion size. I have not recycled the Mylar, if I need I just use a new one.@@geno5360
If you cut near the sealing line, and you still have enough room for the remaining amount in the bag + sealing, you can reuse the bag.
Thank you for your video.
I was just perusing "Good To Go's" website dreaming of such freeze dried goods when I noticed the large All American Canners, ... drool drool, ... All my other shopping lists just flew out the window as I dream of having a 25 quart All American.
I'd get the 30 quart but I am getting older and must think of the future and what I will be able to lift comfortably.
I don't even allow myself to dream of a freeze dryer. What a monetary windfall that would take in order for me to justify getting one.
Just a heads up, kitchen tablespoons are not proper measuring spoons but obviously close enough for making Butter.
15 ml is the proper tbsp measurement. But let me check, .... Yep, 15 ml.
Sorry, I'm anal when it comes to measurements. It's a carry over from when just a one ml difference in what I was adding to the 50 gallon batch of whatever I was working on would mess up my readings.
I love the reviews, ... just for the possibility of me getting some freeze dried stuff in the future. But things are going to hell fast these days it seems.
I may not have the time to get what I desire as a wait every month to receive my small stipend just so I can blow every cent on preps.
Keep up the great work and good luck.
funny thing is..I actually have small measuring 'cups' that I should have used. Slipped my mind. Thanks.
I wonder if you could use oil instead of water??...then in theory you could fry with it as well.
Maybe, but if you have oil.. just fry with the oil? It is rich and creamy though..worth the price for sure.
@@PHExpatPreppersome other prepper tested the butter powder to fry.
Unfortunately these powdered butter can't be used as oil replacement for frying etc.
More to use for baking, as spreads or dips, or add to cooking sauce. But not as a buttery oil
it absolutely is NOT good for frying.. I do stock cooking oil. Thanks
Just use a bit of oil... you don't want to replace all of the water with oil, I wouldn't think.
I have wondered if you used oil instead of water, could you fry with it.
No clue, interesting idea. Thanks
I've tried this butter before, to me it was way to sweet and dull on butter flavor. I'd use it for baking only, I wouldn't use it as a spread eek. I've even tried sprinkling some on plain popcorn, that was yucky. I vacuum seal bars of butter and freeze em now for back up, the powder cans I got are for a last resort and there's nothing else to use 🤣.
How long does the frozen butter last?
@@PHExpatPrepper well once you vacuum seal it, it can last a couple years in the freezer.
What? I don’t understand it is if it’s supposed to be butter surely it’s supposed to melt Admit I do like it when the toast is hot and the butter melts into the toast. Could you explain why it doesn’t melt please I don’t mean to sound rude I’m just all new to this sort of thing😊
no.. it does not melt.. in a pan like you would expect. but its is a good butter spread
I got the butter and I wanted to try it so I made up for the directions It tastes nasty it's gritty It doesn't even melt in a pan it's not butter and it cost a lot of money On top of it I can't find the Best buy date so for all I know it's been sitting on the shelves for over 10 years already
Red Feather butter in cans, on Amazon and elsewhere, lasts a decade, at least... tastes great :)
I will look into that.. thanks
get to the point faster
I agree. I had to fast forward through a lot of this
More than butter Okay then there's either something wrong with my batch or you have got something wrong with you cuz mine taste nasty is all heck
For sure its a butter substitute, and no, does not melt in the frying pan. I did find the flavor decent when I tried it. I have several cans, but will not add more. There are other and better things to stock and stack. Thanks
@@PHExpatPrepper does yours really taste like butter mine didn't It was nasty and grainy. Do you happen to know where the sell-by date is on them.
Yes.. it had a good creamy butter taste, that I recall. I will check the date when I go up there later.
@@PHExpatPrepper thank you.
bottom of the can.. BB aug2032
Dude does not understand how oxygen absorbers work.
Me? can you clarify. I very much understand as I freeze dry food.
a fork to mix? Something is wrong with this whole fake setup
Well, it is what I had on hand. Not sure what you think is fake. Care to elaborate?
Rude. A fork makes sense to break apart clumps. In a perfect world, POWDERED BUTTER WOULDN'T BE NEEDED, but in this scenario I'd end with a stir from a spoon. Which he did. Let's see your video, bub. 😀
One point to make is once you open them cans, you’ve got to eat them with in one year😊
I’m thinking I could repackage and vacuum seal
