Yup. You can't start a new life as a champion of life by continuing your old life of bloodshed. If you want to change, you have to accept the consequences of your past.
The funny thing is you can actually attack the dark knight and beat him traditionally. It's not as easy, and doesn't fit the plot, but totally able to be done.
And then there's tellah who completely misses the message of what he just witnessed. Choosing the path of retribution, ultimately leading to his downfall. I never fully appreciated how genius it is to have tellah learn meteor right here.
I think this is one of my favorite narrative moments in any game, ever. As a Dark Knight, Cecil has done nothing but hurt. Hurt others, as he has taking the Mysidian Crystal, and hurt himself since he loses HP with his "Dark Sword" skill. But to truly see forgiveness, and for Cecil to truly move on, he has to remove EVERY BIT of the Dark Knight ideology from his head. To give up his philosophy of pain being the way forward, and to do so having it be his new ability to either heal or guard others be the only way forward...man. FF4's a good game.

Favorite moment of any story ever. The music, the mystifying questions and bafflement, the rush and sudden urgency. There is just so much in this little scene.
Its so early in the game but it feels like so much has happened already. I have the exact same appreciation for the scene as you do, and equally as vibrant but in a different way was when Kain steals Rosa and you have to fight the elf outside of Troia. And if your not the right level at that point the forest around suck to levcel up in cause you have no magic casters who have support spells other than tellah and his slow as molasses atb. There are several ways to do this scene. One is to simply defend the aggression. His father speaks of sorrow and you must find the right way. A voice will sing like a blade.
Stoneth a paladin is a White knight in Chilvary. Highest rank knights recieve this name. those that are pure and high service to the throne (or in this case, for justice)
I think this scene is handled better here than in the DS version. Maybe it's because my mind fills in the blanks in a different way watching this than with the DS version's more explicit depiction.
@@wickedfreestyle5824yeah, because as a dark knight he was constantly inflicting pain unto himself with his actions, (and one of of his attacks literally drains his health) I love this game so much

@wickedfreestyle5824 If fight hard enough, you can beat Bahamut before he even unleashes the 1st blast, and not need a shield. I don't remember that healing part, so I'm going to replay & try it. Edit: I replayed on SNES and healing did nothing. Well...except healing the dark knight. I had a suspicion it wouldn't work. At the end of the day, the dark knight is a human, not an undead creature which are harmed by healing powers.

Kind of in shock to come back and find my old comment, I was deadlifting everyday for nearly two years. The thing I was upset about at the time resolved itself yet I found no true fulfillment from it. Was thinking about my father and how I should spend more time with him. The dialogue and symbolism of this event in FF4 has so much more meaning after what's happened in my life in the last 5 years... I'm still waiting to see.
I swear Cecil becoming a paladin is more or less inspired by both Superman and He-Man. Cecil encountering his father's spirit & all is like how Clark Kent discovers his Kryptonian heritage (including his Kryptonian name, Kal-El) and trains to become Superman. Meanwhile, the way the sword turns him into a paladin is like how Prince Adam transforms into He-Man. I just see him take that sword at 0:30 and can just hear "By the Power of Grayskull!" in my head followed by "I HAVE THE POWER!!!!" XD
Im not christian, but I believe this is a reference to paul the apostle. Who first served the romans and did a lot of bad shit but after an epiphany became a new man of faith
Gami Moose To be fair, no character you've levelled up till this point actually matters in the long run - the characters currently with you aren't permanent, and everyone else who has been in your party that will rejoin later has their level rescaled to yours anyway. This game conveys a lot of character traits through gameplay mechanics - Tellah's aging through his low MP pool that seems good until he gets any good spells and then suddenly he's useless (plus his stats go DOWN as he levels up) Edward hiding from the fight when his HP run low to show he's still quite cowardly, and of course right here with Cecil going back down to level 1 signifying a completely fresh start in his life.
Defeating your dark half by simply bracing yourself until its assault causes it to die of exhaustion...
Absolutely fantastic.

I don't think so.
I think Kluya understanded that sacrifices had to be made.
He was in fact giving 1 of his sons power to possibly kill the other.

I don’t care what anyone says this has some of the best music of any game. The animation is awesome. He looks so cool in his paladin armor.

This is the worst moment for me. Because you cant use the Deathbringer and White Paladin Cecil was severely underleveled.
