  • Behringer amps seem to get a lot of flack regarding their dependability and tone. In this video, I attempt to fix one of those problems and disprove the other.
The GMX212 has some really great analog tones and should not be so easily overlooked by musicians.

Dave, just acquired a Behringer GMX212 and she has issues, she lights up and all knobs appear to work but there is no sound. I opened her up and she is clean as a whistle but the only thing I see is a single wire from the FS jack to a small CB looks to have been cut....

By the way, this is a true stereo amp with two discreet channels. Behringer was one of the few companies that made stereo amps that gave a much wider sound field through their two speaker combo amp cabinets.
Also I noticed when you were testing the amp you only had one channel under load at a time. This 'could' cause the opposite channel that isn't attached to a load when the amp is on to burn out the output transistor for that channel. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that is the correct assumption on my part. You're fortunate that this didn't happen to you.

I think you may be thinking of a tube amplifier which requires a load due to it having an output transformer.
The output transformer on a tube amplifier converts the high voltage low amperage signal coming out of the power tubes into a low voltage high amperage signal to feed into the speakers.
In addition, the primary winding acts as resistance against the high voltage and the current running through it to the power tubes.
Also, the OT is reflective, meaning that whatever impedance is provided on the secondary (where the speaker is hooked up) will be reflected on the primary, relative to the ratio of the winding.
So the current running through the OT increases as the impedance lowers, causing the power tubes to run hotter, and the primary winding on the OT to heat up, possibly to the point of burning out.
But in a solid state amp, the amplifier is already low voltage with the supply of that voltage (and the current) to the amplifier controlled by components in the circuit, and those components work independently of, and are not affected by, the impedance of the speaker.
At least, that’s what I’ve gleaned over the years. If you find some different info, please post it here. I’m always looking to learn more.
      Thanks for watching!

I honestly don’t remember at this point. I do remember that I ran a search for “Behringer effect potentiometer” and there was only one place I found that sold them.
I went back to find more later and couldn’t. They seem to be unobtainium right now.
That said, it’s possible that I may have a couple of extras from a parts amp, but that stuff is in storage right now. It’ll be a while until I get to them, but when I do, I’ll let you know and we can make a deal. Good luck!

I bought one of these amps in 2004. Mine came equipped with Jensen speakers (which were likely made by Behringer and branded as Jensen). I used the amp for years and gigged with it fairly regularly. I also had the Behringer FCB1010 midi board that I used with the amp. The midi board allowed me to switch effects on the fly from a footboard which is a must if you are gigging with the amp. I had no issues with reliability and I carted the amp all over for gigs. It does not take pedals very well but the onboard effects will get you by.

Thanks for the video. I bought one of these new. Chased problems with it after a few months. To make a long story short one of the ribbon cables was laying on the back of a circuit board. Where the sharp nubs of soldered connections were rubbing thru the insulation and shorting out. Before you spray a bunch of cleaner in the pots make sure that ribbon cable is not rubbing on the back of the board. The crackle was gone after that. I hate this amp because , it's so darn heavy. It is super loud though and makes a backup. Definitely a young strong man or woman's amp. I build my own tube heads and use strictly 112 speaker cabinets because this amp taught me to go lighter. Head and cabinet lol , let the PA do the heavy lifting.

Robert Paul sorry, but I don’t remember the part number at all. I would just do a google search for GMX212 and “effects potentiometer”. I’m pretty sure that’s all I did.
If that doesn’t work, pull the part off the board and use the number printed in the back. You could probably even find the part much cheaper thru Mouser or Digikey.

I've got it all taken apart and now need to find out if I can order this piece. • @davetriestofixstuff4744
      @davetriestofixstuff4744  3 года назад

Hi Christa. That sounds like a tall order. From what I could tell, the effects circuit is integrated into two separate boards and wouldn’t lend itself for easy removal. My only suggestion is to take the signal from the line out and feed that into your amplifier of choice. The only problem would be that the entire preamp signal would be coming from that, not just the effects.
Wish I had a better answer for you. Thanks for watching though. I have some new videos coming out soon so make sure you subscribe!

I asked if he still had the combo because that would be a ready made 212 cab and was told I can have the lot for what he originally wanted for one of the speakers...(".). I have owned one of these for about 15 years and I LOVE it, but recently it has developed a very loud hum and the volume level between the two channels is way off.
