  • Team ELK101's Corey Jacobsen walks us through all of the elk hunting gear he used in Destination Elk V4.
    Corey and Donnie spent 8 days in Idaho's backcountry, and used motorcycles to pack their camps in to get away from hunting pressure. In this Bonus Video, Corey details all the gear he used to stay comfortable and safe in the backcountry during their elk hunt.

    Your grandfather's cuff is awesome. My grandfather came out to visit me from Tennessee a few years back. Going fishing with him during that time was pretty much the last time that he knew who I was, before the dementia really set in. He died a year ago Dec and I take his fishing license with me on my hunting trips. It means a lot to me. 👊

    Corey, another great series…This year (22) can you do a ‘cameraman’ John ‘Gear Dump’?!? I think it’d be interesting to see just how much John is carrying day in and day out…Just a thought and good luck this season! 👊🏻🏹

    Great bag dump. I'm right there with you Corey. The older I get, the more I want to be as comfortable as possible and will pack in a little extra weight to be comfortable. I need a new tent and will look into that one.

    I'm a huge gear junky so it's super nice to see all these bag dumps and all the differences in gear you all use! I've got a few ideas already of some new gear I'd like to check out and try. I'm constantly working on my kit and always looking for things to make things better and or lighter.

    Pretty down to earth. These gear lists are very much environment, trip and personality dependent. We all get in our rhythm, however never take safety for granted. Fire, water, food, shelter & physical/emotional well being have to be sustainable.
    No your limits!

    I normally don’t need a pack where I hunt but been planning a long trip and hope to do it in a couple years or so, glad mentioned a first aid kit. So many people I talk to say they aren’t needed but I always have a smaller aid kit in a pant pocket so even if leave or lose my pack still have something on me.

    I started carrying a pack 2 years ago but they are just day hunts, that is a lot could imagine packing out an elk with all that gear. But as always I have to hand it to you guys, always a good show.

    Learned a long time ago, if you get cold at night, if they are dry just wear your boots...mostly it's just dirt in the sleeping bag and easily shook out...and you practically never get cold
    Nice to see all the gear

    Cool Video. I find it very useful to watch what other people have packed for their hunts. its a great way to get ideas to improve your personal setup. I totally understand the getting cold easily deal with you. My wife is the same way. One HUGE aspect to any sleep system is the fact that you can have a sleeping bag that is rated for super low temps, but if you dont have a proper sleeping pad you will still freeze. unless you are sleeping in the dead heat of the summer where it doesnt get below 60 degrees at night you need a pad that has a higher R-value. when laying in your bag you compress the insulation and in order to maintain its heat retention properties it needs loft. This is where a pad with an appropriate R-value comes into play. I typically shoot for a pad with a value around 3-4. if there is a chance of freezing temps then a pad with a value higher than 4 is best. also when in freezing temps dopnt use your breath to inflate the pad. the moisture in your breath will freeze inside the pad and create another insulation problem. I hope this may help. Keep it up.

    Corey, would you please tell me where you found the bow hook you have on the waist band of your pack? I love how you can stow your bow while you call. I would love to get my hands on one, but I've never been able to figure out where you got it or who makes it. I've even read elk hunting forums of other people asking the same question, but no one seems to know. Thanks for the info if you get a chance!

    Somewhat gear dump related:
    I would like to hear you and Donnie do a video talking about motorcycle elk hunting. It’s pretty easy to throw your gear on the back of a four wheeler or a Ranger. What are some key points a person should be looking at if they are doing it from a motorcycle versus a four wheeler.

    Hi Corey, I was thinking about trying the Zamberlan Vioz boot this upcoming elk season. Do you use insole inserts in your boots as well or are the factory boots sufficient?

  • @rbljackson
    @rbljackson 2 года назад

    So you did actually invest in a medical kit...LOL. Did you add to the stock first aid kit in that bag, or was it purchased and used off the shelf and fairly complete/comprehensive? Curious which brand/model you went with. I remember when you did a gear dump and went minimalist on the first aid, and ironically needed some gear in an actual emergency. Also very glad that you shared that experience with the group. Its certainly an eye opener.....I carry a DIY first aid kit that weighs right around 14 oz. One tip that I found useful.....keeping it accessible on the outside of my pack in an easy to reach location so its quick to get when needed.
