about 3 minutes into this video i realized this car is the exact one my dad just bought last month. It’s here in california now, and i’m happy to say that besides a couple dings from countless tandems, it is as stock, clean and functional as it was here 4 years ago. The only changes done to it between now and then were an m50 manifold swap, BC coilovers, SLR front sway bar and different wheels. Thank you to Evan for building and maintaining such a great car.
@@COdrummaCO Engine wise it is as stock as you will get them, the "only things" he did are coilovers, angle kit, welded diff, strut bar, cage, hydro, seats, dual caliper. That might look like quite the list but if you are not competing in any sort of league you can probably leave the cage out and you will be ready to drive for 2-3k and 5k including the cage.
this is what they did in 90s japan, kept their cars nice for daily driving like keeping all interior panels and ac. the cars available to them were amazing tho
Thank you Aaron for this video. I'll be picking up my first BMW tomorrow. A 04 330ci. It's a Auto but I got the car for free. Going to get it running and driving soon. I'll be following driftweek 3 up here in WA.
Having a track ready car with 300hp is plenty enough for events, no matter what engine setup you run, JZ's LS' Sr's etc. Seat time, and reliability is the only thing you want to worry about. With that said, build your car however you want.
Totally agree with this approach and I hope more limited/street events happen with limited treadwear rules. Inspired me to build my mustang for top drift limited
great info also for other countries that put silly restrictions for road legal cars.. this is basically all you can do to a car in our country as far as i understand ; ok besides air suspension and some factory body work, not so sure about most popular swaps like m54 for ex
Anthony Antonucci oh... I didn't know it didn't affect facelift models. I own a preface lift lol. Mines almost ready to rip as soon as I finish my subframe reinforcement.
Rarely happens, and if it does it’s usually preface lift models (99-02), other than that you should be fine. But always good to take those precautions.
I always tell people stick to the KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid. You'll tend to get more seat time and have more fun. Big hp and maaaad angle just means you shred tires quicker.
awesome video. 80 laps on a pair of tires?!?!? sweet jesus I wish.Aaron, do you have good info on tires? What you see people using regularly at your events and other places. Best bang for your buck. The best tire ive been able to find here is Ingen Antares A1. not great on grip but they last a long time (not 80 laps lol). They never ever delaminate and its about $65 for a 245/40-18. others ive used were nankang and kenda which both delaminated. Evan we miss the corolla here at CLN :)
85% of Lonestar drivers run kenda kr20. I run Sentury UHP in 225/40/18 at $40-50/tire. They last FOREVER. I go multiple events on the same pair in new orleans because our track surface is so smooth. I want to get up there again soon!
Not sure if you could answer this but what would be a better drift car. 2014 mustang gt with SRA or 2015+ mustang gt with IRS. I own a 2014 and the only downside to me is the SRA when it comes to drifting. Without money involved which would be the best choice? I have another daily driver. The mustang is a "beat the crap out of it" car.
why is the sra a downside to the point of considering a whole new car? a 3 link sra is not bad on a smooth track.. are you having issues? or did someone just tell you SRA sukks?
slidestang242 like you just mentioned it’s good on a smooth track but I’d rather have something that doesn’t get upset. I’ve seen people mention the watts rear links to replace the panhard bar but none of it gives insight on it for drifting. Also I think of the adjustability with irs. I have no personal experience with drifting in the mustang on asphalt but before I poured some money into it I’d rather switch cars before hand if the irs would be better in the long run. I’ve found used 15-16’s that would be a close to even trade and I through some cash on top of it at the dealership.
you should consult FMC Drift on facebook, there are lots of people on there that run either setup.. watts link is not worth it for the difference from a panhard, those are for rich boys that want to say they have the best stuff. if you find a sweet deal i would probably do it, only the 8.8 has been around forever and parts for it are 100x easier to find and 100x cheaper than anything for the new irs.. if you're not planning on going pro2 or just have a big budget i would stick with an 8.8 and sra.. but again, FMC Drift will have more info from more people for you to make a more educated decision.
slidestang242 thanks man I’ll look into them. Just want to begin with the best platform from a mustang stand point. I absolutely love my 2014 gt that’s my only concern is the sra in a rough track condition. Thanks again
in the video he said 3.43. I have a 3.46 I swap into my e39 530, and it sucks. you get about 20mpg combined, which for a daily compared to the stock 2.93 getting closer to 30mpg is awful, so I've been swapping back and forth for events.
fuck im getting dyslectic with sounds fuhhh. yeah i have a 3.91 in my e39 and i dont even check my mpg as its only for drifting, but having to drive it to events an hour away is cringey (4K rpm on the highway for an hour plus each way) lol
I had a 4.10 in my 528 and it got decent mileage because it had overdrive. On the other hand my coupe has a ZF5 with 3.62 and it’s terrible on long drives.
Hey RUclips, I want to start drifting I have a 2002 325ci and I heard him say he has SLR angle kit with covers and a "343 welded differential" what exactly is that, cause I googled it and nothing popped out...
I welded some tabs on as there isn't a bolt on kit yet. SRS Concept makes CNC cut tabs if you can't make your own, but I think they interfere with the abs/speed sensors.
SkeemSounds I did! I can't live without a speedo on my daily either. It took a few hours to make my own mounts that cleared everything but it's totally worth it. I also had to cut away a lot of the brake shield. Keeping the stock handbrake for parking was a huuuuge hassle, but I'm glad I did. Someone needs to make a bolt on option.
SkeemSounds avoid an inline hydro like the plague! It will take weeks to bleed. Our abs systems hate them. And inline feels awful anyway. Dual caliper is worth the work!
Don't know about France, but here in Belgium following things on this car would be illegal: changes to the braking system, camber plates & coilovers, angle kit, cage. So pretty much all his mods. Damn, I would wish for the same rules as the US, would even be happy with the German TÜV rules.
I run Kendas for comp and sentury uhp all other times. The sentury's are way cheaper and last way longer. roughly the same grip too! I don't go much lower than 25psi, and never above 50 cold.
I over built my e46 and I absolutely hate it. Im about to buy a new car to keep mostly stock. Real race cars are stupid. You always think you want your car to be better you really don't.
Alberto Chipres hard to find anything in rwd for decent prices. Saw a clapped out s14 missing corner lights post uo on CL for 7 grand! Ka, zenki with bad paint

yoooooooooooooooo, very cool haha, when I think of simple good drift car I always come back to this
Wait so you’re telling me I don’t need to do an ls swap, get a stand-alone ecu and wide body kit to go drifting?
Don't be fooled, this car has mods, it's not exactly stock! But very functional mode!

Dont forget the turbo! You cannot possibly drift NA.
no, you need a carbon widebody kit at least!
also make sure you get an ITB setup for that LS, you dont want to get it going for cheap on accident
@@tuned4life like on top of the chassis? or were E46 330i's really that cheap a year ago?
I totally get this approach, I just picked up a newer GT86 for the same reason. More track time = more fun.
You literally couldn't break that thing without hitting something or misshifting I bet lol

Simple drift cars FTW! Other than a broken CV joint (autozone axles FTL), my 325ci has been holding up for the past year and a half/8 drift events!
Nuisance_Carl i caught you lacking carl lmao
This exactly I want to do with my car. Thanks for sharing! I got some ideas too from it.
Totally agree with this, only downside would be worrying about body damage
Thank you so much for making these types of videos. Id be so lost without it.

I spent all day yesterday drifting my basically stock 328 with the same type of mods. It was great to have heat and defrost in the 32° rain.
this is an excellent video
you should do more like this
I didn't even make this one lol! Evan has his own channel though!!!
oh i thought you asked him to talk about it
Oh I did do that lol

Proper car. All the comfort/luxury but still goes down hard
wowwww i just picked up a e46 two weeks ago as a simple clean build!
i’m so excited to get to work on my 330ci
Cool I just got that 330ci for $750 at the auction 👉😎👊
so, basically, be andy sapp.

Only thing you forgot to mention the E46 is the subframe cracking issue 😝. Other than that..
I also forgot the oil pump nut issue.
The issue was resolved on facelift coupes, this ones ready to rip 😝
Anthony Antonucci oh... I didn't know it didn't affect facelift models. I own a preface lift lol. Mines almost ready to rip as soon as I finish my subframe reinforcement.
Yep, I have a facelift and pre facelift 330ci and the pre facelift developed hairline cracks as soon as the solid mounts went in... reinforce it!!

What a cool car! What have you done for the cooling system? Still stock rad and fan clutch set up?
All stock except a metal water pump since OEM is plastic and not super reliable at high revs.

u done anything about the oil pump nut on m54 or just left it how it is?

Ive been though 3 welded diffs then got and lsd. Never looked back... Lsd handles better and doesnt break while driving in a car park.
Swap in an M3 rear and you get a better gear and lsd for around $900.
