I just love your RUclips channel. We are going to be in Maui in late August early September for my birthday. I found you looking for tips when traveling to Maui but what made me subscribe was that your son is about the same age as my son. Seeing you do certain activities gives me confidence to do that with my little one. All your videos tend to be well focused on family travel with the occasional sprinkles of info for those without kids. I found that refreshing in comparison with other travel RUclipsrs who often are much younger and have a lot less ideas to offer to families with small children. Thank you!
We appreciate that! We try to be as informative as possible for all groups but can't help talking about our situation and recent experience! Have a great trip to Maui and see our website for more info: thehawaiivacationguide.com/maui-travel-guide/

You were spot on about taking a boat ride or snorkeling from shore. I loved the trip but for the money I would only do it once. As long as the waves are ok the boat ride is beautiful
I took the Pride of Maui snorkel tour to Molokini Caldera, my greatest experience in the water in my 80yrs. of life. While I stayed within 100ft. of the dive boat cautious for I was 70yrs. old, while my wife swam 69yrs. old around 1,000ft. from the dive boat! Our dive boat parked at the far northern part of the caldera, my wife swam more than three-fourths the distance south to the side of the caldera. The caldera is 2,012ft. in outer diameter!) When she looked up and saw how far she was in far southern part of the caldera, it took about twenty-five minutes to slowly snorkel back to the boat, the last person aboard by over twenty minutes.
Happy birthday! The trip out to Molokini is a relaxing day. Be sure to take your Dramamine if you get motion sickness. My friend fed the fish when he got sick while snorkeling. Fun times.

My wife and I went to molokini crater on our trip to maui in Sept '19. We were snorkeling across the crater from you were. It was so deep, and the tide was so rough it was hard to get close enough to the reef to see anything. Fun trip, great crew on our boat, but I don't know if we'd do it again.
Surprised to hear it was such rough conditions. The trade winds pickup in the afternoon. Was it an afternoon tour? Just curious as surprised they took you all out.
@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide it was an early morning tour. We actually parked out car at the docks before the sun rose. We didn't even get to go to turtle town because it was too rough with no visibilty. I took a surf lesson on our last morning and it seemed like it finally calmed down. We loved maui and can't wait to plan our next trip.
There’s a particular place nearby that Dolphins come in most days. I’m sure some locals know of it. Last time there I’ll guess close to 100 came in. But I’m sure this excursion is fun. My wife went on it with family members. She loved it.
There were two snorkeling boats near the dolphins as we passed by on the way to Molokini. They were there to see the dolphins. Only locals at that time as Maui's quarantine for arrivals was still in effect.
Did I see lots of fish and sea turtles at Molokini... yes! They were attracted to all of the seasick tourists puking through their snorkels. My wife hurled on the boat steps you use to get in and out of the water!
We went with Paragon a few years ago and it was great. They actually sailed, which was a bonus for us because we are sailors. I Having said that, I would save my money there are great places to snorkel and see just as much sea life right off the beach. There are even better spots, but I’m not giving them up. Do some research and they are easily found. Not secrets, you will enjoy them more if you discover them on your own.

So this is a question, I am not an expert swimmer just intermediate. I was wondering do I need to be an expert swimmer to snorkel .also, it’ll be me and my girl first time to snorkel. Her first time in Hawaii. I enjoy watching your guys vlogs haha keep doing it
Thanks for watching! I consider the crater to be easy snorkeling but go on the first tour in the morning as there is less wind. The tour operators have lifeguards in the water with you.
If you’re an intermediate swimmer you’ll be fine anywhere in Maui where the water is calm. The salt content in the water is high, so you’re super buoyant. The only recommendation I’d add besides going early is to try your mask and snorkel in a pool first to make sure your fit is right.

Would you recommend the 6:15am departure or the 9:45am departure? Do you see more wildlife super early in the morning? Also, which is better, the 5hr trip or 3.5, which was your favorite? Do both provide gear?
The tours provide gear, go earlier in the morning as less tours and less chance of wind in the early morning. Do a length that sounds comfortable for you. The longer tours usually include more stops so more to see!
You can reach turtle town from shore? Whats the best part on the shore to do this. I was on the ultimate whale watching tour you recommended they also mentioned this but I forgot where from shore was best point.

We went with the Pacific Whale Foundation through their website. They offer 10% off with an online booking. There are many other great tour operators also going to Molokini Crater.
I went on this same boat and it was honestly pretty lame. Perhaps I’m used to a bit more adventurous dives. The student marine biologist told everyone to get away from the turtles. They stopped the boats when dolphins swam by due to it being unnatural behavior. They complained about plastic straws and sunscreen even though they boat loads of people out there everyday. They also tried to tell us a single type of fish is responsible for all the sand on the Maui beaches. I have grown up on the ocean and done tons of spear fishing. So my view might be a bit biased. I guess for families this crater is fine.
Hello, I have been watching your videos for my upcoming trip to Maui. I had a question about scuba diving, I am not certified for diving, however I was wondering if they do a discovery dive in Molokni crater ? And do you recommend it? Do you guys feel it’s worth it ?
Be careful you get what your paying for. I took my kid to Maui and wanted to take him on a boat cruise like this to the crater for snorkeling. I googled it up and paid nearly $200. When I arrived they told me they don’t go to the crater in the afternoons. They took us somewhere off the coast on a small crowded boat. We saw a few fish and coral. They served us hot dogs for lunch. I took my kid to snorkel at Black Rock Beach and Napili Shore and we ended up seeing sea turtles for free
Would you recommend scuba diving for people who are good are swimming but never scuba dived before? I have been snorkeling and wonder if diving will let you see more things/have more fun in the water to see marine life. Also which goggles do you recommend for short sighted people? I can wear contacts but the goggles i used last time let in water. Also the snorkeling tube let in water if the water is not calm. Does diving gear make it a better experience?
I'd recommend scuba diving. It is a great way to explore and see more marine life. There are a lot of reputable dive shops on Maui to choose from. I don't have a favorite pair of goggles I'm afraid.

I've been watching your videos for 2 weeks. As a result, I'm going to Maui with my family in last week of April. 2021. I was dreaming with snorkeling.... Until, I clicked in the wrong video and saw sharks... Now I'm never going in the water 😣
I love the beaches, I love the water, the snorkeling, the eating, but what happened to the horses? My boyfriend and I are avid equestrians so my question is: where is the best stable where you can rent a good, well fed horse, and just take off on your own with your partner? In Jamaica, we had the worst experience, being tethered together on unkempt, dirty, malnourished horses. I thought my boyfriend and the guide were going to come to blows. What a horrible experience we had.
Maui and the Island of Hawai'i have lots of options for horseback riding. Call them to see if you can ride at your leisure. I usually see them in lines on a ride but not tethered.
Yes, the 14-day quarantine is still in effect. Inter-island travel is also restricted. Oct 1st is officially the end of the 14-day quarantine but everyone thinks it will be extended.
Unpopular opinion. I don't think it's worth it. Was there in October 2018 and have been going to Maui since I was a kid (I'm 33 now). The boat trip was fun and the crater was really cool, but the snorkeling was mediocre in my opinion. I have had much better snorkeling at a bunch of different beaches than I did on the Molokini tour. Also it's very very "touristy" if that's a word haha though that's probably pretty obvious. Could have just been my experience, but my wife and I won't be doing it again. Thanks for the videos though, you guys are great.
you guys make having a toddler look so easy and effortless. Good job parenting!

I've been watching your videos for 2 weeks. As a result, I'm going to Maui with my family in last week of April. 2021. I was dreaming with snorkeling.... Until, I clicked in the wrong video and saw sharks... Now I'm never going in the water 😣
Thanks for watching! Don't let the shark videos get to you! Have a great trip.
@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide are there sharks at the moon shaped area? My family is planning on going and I hate sharks 😬
One caveat about Olowalu beach is beware of the black sand. Don’t get your car stuck in the sand.
Dang I just checked and their prices are 160 per adult not 100:(
Ouch, that’s an increase. Try Boss Frog or pride of Maui for a similar experience
@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide thank you!
My wife and I weren't so lucky - We went in October 2018 and all we saw were those black fish - Nothing else -
that's a bummer, try again or experiment with a trip to Lana'i for snorkeling.
@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide My CEO owns that island, so I will steer clear of it.😅
Is there still a 14 day quarantine for out of state visitors to Maui?
Thanks for sharing! We like the early morning tour which gets there first. But I get you!
have you ever seen a big shark
afraid not, never during snorkeling for me but others have at beaches around Hawaii.
if i was there i would bring my dive gear and catch some tako and choke fishes
It's not worth it when it's raining.
not worth it
It's so sad to see all these snorkeling videos and the coral is just gray, gray ,and more gray, just dead, bleached coral.
Thanks! What a fun day!
Thanks John!
