That green agate is beautiful!
That's one of my favorite agates ever. It would be nice if it was bigger, but for a jelly bean size agate, it's incredible.
That little green egg is spectacular! What a find!
Wow! That egg-shaped greenish agate was a beauty!
My favorite of the day for sure, and one of my favorite agates ever.
I have yet to find thunder egg😢. I have relatives near Holland, MI, and I’ve asked them to go find some for me, but they haven’t come through for me yet ! 😂
@@littledabwilldoya9717 I think you need to trade for some new relatives. 😉
Goodies left and right! What a fun day, thanks for sharing it with us!
@@littledabwilldoya9717 I think it's lightning stones that you'd find near Holland.
That green agate is amaZING!!! I've never seen anything like it! Lucky dog lucky find! The purple was crazy with all those bands. I really got to get up to the U.P.
That little green one shot right up the the top of my favorite agate list. It's at least near the top.
So enjoyable to watch. You guys hit the jackpot! What a landscape too! God is the master artist!
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: part 2: I am really enjoying the sound of the water lapping upon the beach! So many georgious trees too.
The whole beach is just awesome.
Where were you?? We will be up in the red rock area in August
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here:
So much color! Wonderful finds! Beautiful shine on your polished specimens. Thanks, Rob and Sam!
LOL, I love your description😆 It's great to have these vids since I'm no longer able to hike and hound anymore either🐝 Rock on any way ya can!
Love this video Rob. What a gorgeous.day
Wow, those are some amazing finds. What a fantastic day you two had at the beach. Thanks for sharing.
What a gorgeous and bountiful day! That green agate is spectacular. And thank you for showing us the polished rocks. They are beauties.
You're welcome, Patty!
Beautiful green agate, stripey rocks and Itty bitty thundereggs. Nice hunting!
Gotta love those stripey rocks!
Wow, you guys did awesome. I love the swirly bedrock. That would make beautiful landscaping rocks. I would love to find a quiet beach like that to spend the day hunting on.
That would look nice in a yard, but I'm not carrying it out for you. I draw the line at driftwood. Did you ever get your driftwood project done?
@MichiganRocks LOL, I wasn't suggesting you get me some. Too funny. No I have not been able to work on that project yet. Just have a lot going on. But I will someday, and I will show it to you when I do.
@@donnalantz7981 I was just kidding. I know you wouldn't expect me to drag a boulder home for you.

Awesome!!! Great Place, Great Company, and more Great Rocks collected to join your ones at home!!! Sam, your Best Agate is Beautiful, but that Green Agate is pretty Gorgeous as well!!!! That green one was incredible.
Oh my gosh, that green rock was beautiful. There were so many pretty rocks. Sam has eagle eyes!
I have an appointment with an eye doctor at the end of the month! I finally did it. I'm sick of Sam out hunting me.

Little green agate was awesome!
Yes it was. I love that one.
I think that the oval, green agate you found might just be my favorite or all your found rocks. Beautiful! And that bedrock! Amazing!
It's very high on my list of favorites too.
Oh wow! The green agate is gorgeous!
Thanks for the video!!!!!
Great little agates and pretty rhyolite! Now, go out there and get bigger and more. Thanks for a walk on the beach. 👍
I'd love to find some bigger ones, but that's easier said than done.
Gorgeous rocks!
Very pretty rocks Rob that you and Sam found on the beach.
Spectacular green agate!! 💚😍💚 What a great beach! You guys will need to revisit that one soon!
The green agate looks like Jade. Great find. I enjoy the peaceful sounds of water waves rolling onto the beach. So refreshing.
Thank you for showing tumbled versions of some of the rocks you found in this video. I was going to ask you to link back to this when you did tumble them. Some nice finds!
You're welcome!
Спасибо за интересную прогулку❤️

Oh wow❤u and Sam found so many amazing ones😍loved the egg shaped green thiny a lot❤👍🇫🇮👋
Keep in mind that I found the cool green one. Quality trumps quantity.
Your finds are incredible! I love the designs on all of the Bedrock also. What a great hunt you both had ❤
That beach has it all. Cool rock outcroppings, little rocks to pick up, and incredible scenery.
Wow y’all killed it in this one. I want some of those big swirly rocks you showed. Love those. Obviously the thundereggs and agates were awesome. My favorite of the video has to be the green one you found Rob. It is so unique.
That was my favorite rock of the whole trip. Small but beautiful.
I think that was definitely the most I've ever seen you guys find! Some really beautiful rocks and that green one would be my absolute favorite ever too. So pretty! I'm dying to get up there but i have too many baby chickens that hatched right now... couple more weeks though... there is no place on earth better.
The chickens don't like road trips?
@MichiganRocks I'm sure they would but not sure I want my car full of chicken poop. I actually do love them like any other pet. They all have names and many answer to their names. My rooster especially... he's my best buddy. 😊
@@joolzbohr One of my neighbors has chickens. I haven't gotten acquainted with them though.
You guys did so well on this beach 👍 I love the little green agate you found Rob 🥰
That was my favorite.
Amazing how you guys can find such a variety of rocks yet so many of the same kind. Great video!!!
There's not the variety on this beach that there is on some other beaches, but I don't care. The rocks here are really cool.
Thank you! I watch all your videos and am really excited to get back up there again
You're welcome!
That’s a great beach. It reminds me where I go. That banded rhyolite is something I find quite often. They always tumble awesome for me.
I rarely find that banded rhyolite except on this beach.
@@MichiganRocks It had to be western shores
14:48 nearly every single piece is stunningly fun to look at, ok now this creamy tan/beige yellow and orange on one side , and lavender the other is too amazing
That one was great.
WOW, that green agate you found was absolutely beautiful. Great Find 😮
I love that one too.
You have such an amazing variety of rocks in your area. I wish I could spend a few hours on that beach. Everything is beautiful
Yep, it's a really great beach.
Great video, I love following you on your adventures. Your beach rocks are so gorgeous, I loved that green agate so much. Watching those gorgeous glowers in the sun made me decide what I want to do with my weekend lol. Greetings from WA state.
Good luck! What kind of rocks do you find in Washington? Nancy and I are going on an Alaskan Cruise next year. My son just moved to Montana, so we're debating between flying and driving with a stop at my son's place. If we drive, I could probably talk Nancy into a rock hunt or two. We're leaving from Seattle.
@@MichiganRocks In WA state we get lots of chalcedony / banded agate, jasper and petrified wood. If you're driving from Seattle east to Montana you'll pass by Cle Elum, there are several pretty good spots there. Though my favorite spots are in the Southwest part of the state around Chehalis where you get a lot of carnelian in the creeks.
I watched once and it popped up again . Still Love watching again and again. Always enjoy your beautiful videos . Makes me want to get up there. Nothing that pretty where we're staying in texas . I was looking for blue quartz in the Llano River but no luck .
Blue quartz sounds beautiful. Not a lot of blue rocks around here.
Great beach!! 😊
Kept wondering why your vids make me sleepy, coz they're really fun to watch... it's the sound of waves🌊 duh me, lol. I had to pause so I can pep up🐝
That and I have over thirty years of experience teaching math. That puts people to sleep too.
Thank you God, Amen
Amen!
Those tumbled rocks you showed us was beautiful, really really looking nice. I like that Rhyolite rocks, nice colors and patterns. I will tell my family I want an tumbler for christmas yeah, wow, love that rock at 8.07, look like it is prepped That one you must keep as it is, with light behind. what a gifted beach........
I always keep my agates as I found them. I'm not sure how to display that little green one, but I need to figure something out.
Awesome finds!!
Wow nice variety on that beach. I luv the green agate Rob. Thanks for all of the extra shots. Sam gr8 finds also #ilickrocks 😂
It's so hard to get the camera to focus sometimes, so the extra still shots seem necessary.
The rocks are really cool, and I have a hard time trying to focus on a single spot. However, born and raised in Philly, PA, what really draws me into the video is the beautiful scenery. Yes, thank you, God, for the water and simple things in life.
Strange question: The water looks so pristine - is it drinkable?
I'm not sure if it's recommended to drink it, but I would, especially in a place like that, far away from any pollution.
The Yoop is my happy place. The beach you were on looks a little familiar. I love the sound that rhyolite makes when walking on the beach. Thanks for sharing!
That green agate is mind-blowing 🤩
Oh wow, that green one is beautiful! Just the type of thing that would have caught my eye.
When you found the Easter egg striped rock I was amazed!! My family and I will be in the western UP next week and planning on going to Agate Beach and yes I have packed the deet already!
You probably won't need deet on the beach, but you'll probably need it in the woods. The problem on the beach could be flies. There's no spray that I know of that works on flies. That's why I carry a mesh fly suit.
I don’t think anything works on those stable flies. They were so bad up by 12 Mile Beach one time, we actually RAN back up the hill from the beach , getting back to the truck as fast as we could! Those buggers bite HARD and actually DRAW BLOOD! OUCH!!!😂
That permethrin works, but you can’t put it on your skin. It even stays on your clothes through several washes.
@Michaganrocks Did you ever identify that fantasticly colorful, splendorifficly (made up that one, lol) stunning little egg shaped stone? That little stone was spectacular! Those colors reminded me of an Acro agate marble. 😮😊✌🏻❤🙏🏼
Nothing works on black flies in the UP! And those suckers bite
Holy Toledo! Nice finds!
8:30 oh my goodness I’m in lovvvee with this piece, it’s a unique lime green , therefore it’s sublime,? But green is green , and that is one lucky gem you discovered, regardless the shade!
It is sublime!
The agate that looked like an Easter ago was beautiful ❤ thought the thunder eggs were cool
Easter eggs and thunder eggs!
Missing out on my Early Summer trip up to Michigan, but getting up there in September and planning on backpacking slowly on a stretch of U.P. beach (20 miles) and camping. Hope to find some cool rocks, but you can't beat the scenery. That Green Agate and the yellow banded agate are really nice finds.
Where are you planning to go? That sounds like the sort of thing best done at Pictured Rocks, but you can't pick rocks there. I have never done a backpacking trip, but it always sounded fun.
@@MichiganRocks There is a 20ish mile section of beach that coincides with the North Country Scenic Trail starting right around Two Hearted River (thanks to you I saw when I last visited). I am not 100% set on that and still looking at possibilities. I will have to be much pickier than usual with rocks because they can get very heavy if I pick too many.
@@MichiganRocks If you have ideas or want to join let me know. I would love that. I led backpacking and canoeing trips for almost 20 years with kids and adults. Nothing better!
@@FixinTwo That sounds like fun, but my summer is getting really busy, really fast. I have about ten people that I'm tentatively going to meet up with this summer already. Thanks a lot for the invite, though.
@@FixinTwo I have seen signs for that trail up there. Yes, backpacking and rock hunting are not super compatible. Agates only!
Really fantastic agates found this day!!
Lots of them too!
Somehow I missed this video last week, but I watched it tonight and I'm so glad I did! Awesome finds!
That was a really fun day.
Great video, great finds and beautiful beach!! Have a good day and weekend
Michigan rock I shared this video and tagged you on my community page!
I love everything you and your son found!
Sam is not my son, he's my neighbor. My son grew up and moved out, so I had to adopt Sam as my hunting buddy. I've known him since he was a baby.
That green one!!🥰
Hi Rob been a while since I've watched your videos but I sure picked a doozy to watch . As always I wanted to come through the screen and go hunting with you fellas but technology isnt quite there yet lol. I liked everything I saw so picking out favorites is tough but I will give a nod to that lovely green stone you found and Sam's banded churt piece as that is my favorite stone :) got to get back to watch my favorite rock hunters again :)
Hi Mary! I'm glad the technology isn't there that enables you to reach through your screen. when that happens, the videos will stop happening! It's bad enough I have to compete with Sam, I sure don't need the rest of you grabbing at my rocks.
@@MichiganRocks not all the rocks Rob just the churt and one omar one petrosky......lol
A beach rock hunt! What a gorgeous green Agate at 818! Thanks!
My first really green agate. I don't think I've ever seen another.
That green agate is great! Green is such a rare color where I am. When I went to Southern Colorado/New Mexico, I filled up on green...well everything!
I love green rocks anyway and a green Lake Superior agate is very rare. I'm not 100% sure that it's a Laker, but I don't know what else it would be.
I'd name that beach Treasure Beach! The green agate is spectacular! Wow!
Awesome green agate. I'm jealous!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Great video! That green agate is the bomb!!
I was pretty excited about that one.
I really miss rock hunting on the shores of Lake Huron in Ontario...so beautiful!!
The green agate is my favorite!😍
Mine too!
Ooo, what a little beauty the green one is!
I love that little guy!
LOL ... I wonder how many more you could have found if you didn't have to stop to show us your finds, which we very much appreciate and enjoy.
Thank you, God ... for places like this! Amen! and AMEN! Psalm 19 all the way!
I have thought about the time I miss while filming. I try not to think about it too often.
@@MichiganRocks I think that means that you think of others ... and, I have read many comments from people who can no longer look for rocks. They really appreciate the joy you bring them from your videos. Is it not interesting the many ways we serve others, while we receive blessings from the efforts?
@@maryseaman312 When I started making videos, my goal was to educate people on which rocks to pick up on the beach and how to tumble them. I never thought I'd be helping people who either couldn't get out on the beach because of health or people who had moved away from Michigan and could no longer get to the beach because of being so far away. The people who actually watch my videos are not necessarily the same as my target audience. It is a really great feeling to be able to give a little taste of the beach to those who can't get there for one reason or another.
Like a rock,been there🤣
Great rock hunting 😊😊😊
Beautiful Rob. I love the green agate. Maybe some day we could horse 🐴 trade. 😁
That one will not be up for grabs. That might be my favorite agate find, although it's really small.
What an amazing place. I'd love to walk that beach as well.
Cool colors.
Love that green agate!,❤❤❤
Wowza
Loved this episode.❤
AMAZING! Thanks for sharing. Maybe bring along a smaller bucket and fill it with lake water, so you don't have to keep running to the waves or putting saliva on the rocks, to see how magically beautiful they are. :-)
I carry a bucket and sometimes put a little water in it for that purpose, but this time, my bucket had a crack in it so the water just drains out. They say you need your daily vitamins and minerals, so licking rocks should be good for me, right?
Hmmm. What else was in the water that those rocks had been resting in? :-)
@@CorinneHSmith Best not to think about it.
Brilliant video , do you think the stones are crying out, I find lots of Ys on beach and shingle. Your hands are amazing too , great to see your beautiful Lake. Thank you .

that is a nice rock @7:59!
We are heading to the UP (near pictured rocks and the western Keweenaw peninsula)next month and hope to get some good rock hounding in. Thank you so much for your videos…have learned so much about what to look for and what will tumble well. Really getting excited about finding my first epidot!
Good luck! I think you're going to enjoy your vacation. Pictured Rocks is a Really pretty area. Be aware, though that it's illegal to take rocks from there since it's a national shoreline. You can pick them up in the Keweenaw though.
@@MichiganRocks Oh geez! Thank you for that reminder! 😁 Always good to keep that in mind! I think there are some beaches in that area where we would be OK to hunt so I’ll do some research! Really looking forward to it!

He sure is.
Hi there. Were you able to identify that colorful little stone. It was stunning….as is. It reminded me of an Akro Agate Marble. Very cool, Rob! 😊
You'd have to be more specific. I'm not sure which colorful little stone you're talking about. Could you give me a timestamp?
Now you are at the point of just trolling me....can you possibly find another rock that I just have to have??? lol Love the rocks you have up that way! Great video, thanks for sharing! I concur, Amen!
I am actually a troll, living under the bridge and all.

Where are they at?
Pretty sure that green one is called a Spartan agate :) Pretty good find for a U of M man! Nice work!!!
Oh, come on! Don't ruin my great find.
I’ll be up there this weekend!!! I can’t wait! Great video as always, I picked up a 255nm UV flashlight, we will see how it goes.
Yooperlites glow under 365 nm UV light. I'm not sure how they do under 255 nm.
Yooperlites glow a very faint reddish color under 355nm. I guess the 355 is for some Calcites. I have one rock that will glow bright yellow/green under 355nm but doesn’t react to 365nm. Looks like milky quartz under regular light.
@@I_wish_I_knew_something It would be fun to play around with the various wavelengths of lights.
I happened upon a RUclips video from "Currently Rockhounding" ... in this particular video, he was explaining about agates and jasper. I didn't have time for the whole video, but I did learn what makes an agate.
While a rock is being formed, a hole happens from perhaps water, or even gas. The water is full of silica .. and that is when an agate is formed.
I thought you might enjoy knowing that factoid and where I found it.
Apparently the way they're formed is a hotly debated topic between geologists. I'm not sure if they argue about it at the level Jared explained it or if it's the details that are not agreed upon.
@@MichiganRocks well, since geologists are more sold on the age of rocks than they are knowledgeable about how they are formed ... I think Jared very ably explained the minerals involved - - in my experience with geologists (very limited experience) they tend to be more expert on certain areas than they are in general - - sometimes, even I can figure out that the "specialization" of the scientists have removed many from other aspects of reality. I could say they are narrow-minded in many ways, but that would start an entirely different aspect of the elephant. LOL.
Miss walking the Superior shores for rocks..grew up Pancake Bay Ontario in sixties❤
I'm not sure where that is, but I think I'd take a bottle of syrup along if I ever visited.
@@MichiganRocks Its on Trans Canada Hwy between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay,,,be heading there next summer for agates...

I'm pretty sure you're out on Keweenaw with that much gravel on the beach. The green agate is way cool!
I am, but there is just as much gravel in the eastern U.P. too.
Thank you for everything you do, it's wonderful. I liked a phrase you said in one of the video (You wait a week and we wait seconds). I appreciate it .I am a beginner and I want to buy tumbling rocks. What do you advise me and what suitable granules should I buy? I don't know where to start and what exactly to buy to polish my rocks . Thank you
I'd suggest buying either jaspers or agates. They're both hard rocks and hard rocks polish the best. I like to buy from the Rock Shed or Kingsley North, but there are plenty of other good sellers out there too. When it comes to buying grits, both of those stores sell quality products. You can find links to both places in the description of this video.
@sssssssss4258 Watch Rob's videos on rock tumbling. They are terrific for beginners and pros. He's always doing something different and fun. Keep in mind that basic rotary rock tumblers take a LOT of time. The first stage can take a week, weeks or months to get the rocks smooth. Patience is key. But rotary tumblers are great for the first stage. Most pros consider vibratory rock tumblers necessary for stage 2 through 4 because it cuts the polish time significantly. Don't believe the rotary tumbler guidelines of a week for each step. You're almost guaranteed to be disappointed. I order virtually all my grit through the Rock Shed. And a terrific rock to buy there is Mexican Lace agate. One of the prettiest agates anywhere.
@@ClassicRock76

You’re in my neck of the woods. Nice finds. Lots of stuff I find.
That's a nice neck of the woods to be in.
@@MichiganRocks I have found those green agates while yooperlite hunting. Those are a great surprise I found very few but always memorable.
I am so jealous that you can go and find these rocks right on the shore.
I have to purchase all my stones and it's not as fun. Best I can do is take my metal detector out and look for gold / old coins haha!! Nice work guys!!
This spot is a day's drive from my house. But I do have good rocks near me too. I am extremely fortunate to have places like this anywhere near me. I have become more thankful for where I live as I have read comments from people all over the world who don't necessarily have the rocks, clean water, or scenery that I enjoy here.
I do also buy rocks because I like to tumble some stuff that I could never collect on my own. Both are fun to tumble.
The translucent green agate at 8:58 - have you ever used the flashlight mode on your phone to backlight translucent rocks? There's something about the LED they put in phones that does a particularly good job of showing off translucent rocks. With some research and some trial-and-error, I found a specific LED part number that recreated the great backlighting effect, and used them to build a display box with a grid of these LEDs, each in it's own shallow depression. When the display box is fully populated with translucent rocks (carnelians are our local find), it makes a pretty cool looking display.
Yes, I have used my phone's light to backlight them. I thought the LED flashlight I used in the video worked about the same, at least I never noticed a difference. Your display box must look incredible all lit up. That's a big project, but I'll bet it was well worth the effort.
