@@MichiganRocks my family is joking about that 🪨 farmers takes away as much stones as they can …and I bring them back home…. I’m doing that since I was able to walk with something in the hand… stones are magnets for me …
McLain is our preferred campground on the Keweenaw! mostly because it was our first experience with Lake Superior rocks! was the beach in better shape since 2023? so much sand and shoreline was lost south of the campground in the winter of 2022 and 2023.
The rocks that catch my eye are always different from the ones that catch your eye. Every time you stop and reach for one I think "ooo, that's a neat one" but I'm hardly ever looking at the one you pick up. 😃 I guess someone has to pick up the ugly ones but I'm not saying if it's you or me 🤣
I frustrate a lot of people that way. Everyone has different tastes, so it's impossible to know what someone else is going to like. It makes no sense for me to try to vary it by grabbing rocks that I don't find interesting. At least if I pick up something I like, there's a decent chance that someone else will like it too. I'll keep trying!
A friend of mine found 85 Indian copper artifacts across the road from McClain Park using a metal detector there was a war there between the Indians and the Army over the rights to the entrance way to the 14:26 Portage
I doubt it, but you have more experience doing it, and I have no valid explanation for what I’m saying; just a question/observation. To that end, are you saying the dark outer ‘shell’ (don’t know the appropriate word, just using my best analogy) of it goes from one side to the other if you cut in half? With the rock in your hand at 1:31 I’d call BS
@@given0fox968 I left that one on the beach, so I can't cut it to verify one way or the other. I just know from experience in cutting a lot of rocks that they usually look the same on the inside as the outside. There is something called a weathering rind on rocks though, where the outside can be a slightly different color due to oxidation, fading, iron staining, etc. It's not usually too dramatic, but it's noticeable.
@@MichiganRocks based on the surrounding rocks, and the one I mentioned in your hand, I saw a similar ‘hue’ in what I feared was some sort of ‘staining’ in that rock and the surrounding. If (which sounds like I’m not) something was staining them, we’d both be concerned. Appreciate the responses, and you sharing your adventures & finds.
Probably not. It's not a bad idea, I just probably won't get around to doing it. I do like how the pointy end of the spoon can get under rocks well. A deeper spoon might make that harder.
@@MichiganRocksWe see a lot of tourists on our Keweenaw beaches with cat turd scoops on a pole, but regardless, McClains is a waste of time for agates. A few miles up the beach at Calumet Water Works Township park is where the grapefruit sized agates are. You're far more likely to find agates under water with a viewing bucket too. Better luck next time.

That's prehnite or maybe patricianite.
@@MichiganRocks I looked it up and those weren't options. Ty. I'll go check them out. ✌️😊
Love the pictures! Very nice 😊😊😊
!! I'm going to be there in a few weeks, glad to know I'll have a shot at finding a pudding stone!
You won't find a puddingstone up there, but you might find that conglomerate I left behind.
Noooo!
You’re such a good Brother…. She says that’s Beautiful and you sarcastically (like a Brother) say yes that’s beautiful 😂😂😂💜💜💜💜
Me sarcastic? Never!
@@MichiganRocks 🥰😂😂😂
"Urbanite" Gonna steal that one. ;)
excellent rock art
오.. 샐리 작가님 pebble art 멋있어요! ❤❤
네, 그녀는 재능이 있어요. 나는 큰 언니가 자랑스럽다.
Your wife show you rock be positive Mr King geology guy
I feel a little less silly now …I’m not alone coming back home with stones in my pockets…..🤣😘
What's silly about that?
@@MichiganRocks my family is joking about that 🪨 farmers takes away as much stones as they can …and I bring them back home…. I’m doing that since I was able to walk with something in the hand… stones are magnets for me …
McLain is our preferred campground on the Keweenaw! mostly because it was our first experience with Lake Superior rocks! was the beach in better shape since 2023? so much sand and shoreline was lost south of the campground in the winter of 2022 and 2023.
I have only been here once before and we didn't walk very far, so I can't really compare.
I love pebble art! Does she sell her pictures, I would love one with a camper and a red fire pit!
Yes, there is a link to her site in the description. bit.ly/SallysSuperiorArt
I do not know what it is, but your videos are addictive. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 It looks like most of your family are hunters as well.
I haven't quite figured out what makes people like them so much either. I'm sure glad you do though.
I would've kept that nice size galaxy stone with the bug chunk of waxy epidote on one end😢
I left it there for you!
A friend of mine found 85 Indian copper artifacts across the road from McClain Park using a metal detector there was a war there between the Indians and the Army over the rights to the entrance way to the 14:26 Portage
That's really cool. I had no idea we were on a battle ground.
So many rocks, like 1:31 look like they are covered in a ‘purple coralline’ type of coating. Any ideas?
They're not covered by anything. That color goes all the way though.
I would love to come from Tennessee to rock hunt. But my fuel mileage would be a 1/8 of the mileage on the way back 😆
Ha ha! Yep, that's a problem.
دقیقه 5:05 👌👌سنگ زیبا و خوشرنگ❤❤
My 3 daughters all paint pictures on flat rocks.
Ya'll rock hunt like my dad used to fish: - Throw everything back! 8 D
What glue does Sally use for pebble art?
I just asked her. Gorilla super glue.
Thanks for taking us with you.. Are you going to maki a deeper scoop so the rocks don't slide off??
Probably not. It's not a bad idea, I just probably won't get around to doing it. I do like how the pointy end of the spoon can get under rocks well. A deeper spoon might make that harder.
@@MichiganRocksWe see a lot of tourists on our Keweenaw beaches with cat turd scoops on a pole, but regardless, McClains is a waste of time for agates. A few miles up the beach at Calumet Water Works Township park is where the grapefruit sized agates are. You're far more likely to find agates under water with a viewing bucket too.
Better luck next time.
@@mrfirestop415 I went to Calumet on this trip too. No grapefruit sized agates this time though.
