Everyone likes to get their mitts on the Krust Bus! I like to surprise them by abruptly (but humorously) "don't scratch the paint!" We both get a laugh, but they also seem to become a bit more respectful of the bus. 😉
@@geoffreybent Hey, thanks! I do too! As of last Sunday, returning from Bus Fest 19 in Antioch, California, I've put over 10,000 miles on the new engine build in less than 10 weeks! #VWLife #DriveYourBus! #KrustBus 🙂
I had a situation like this with SG. At work I saw someone open my door, looking around the inside of my car. I walked up, trying to be nice but he tried to tell me it was his car and I “lost it” a little bit. I’m cool with people asking to open the car, and although something may not be the prettiest it doesn’t mean that it’s free will! Also I loved the whataburger story!

Frickeln is a German slang word for bodging. Of course I can more than frickeln. For more than 40 years I am wrenching old cars and maintain my four old Moto Guzzis.
I had a pan off restored 56 Chevy Bel Air , Show Quality!!!, $100K investment, I took it to the Glendale Calif Sat night car show. Went to watch my friends band play (10 yards away) I turn back and saw a FAMILY OF KIDS SITTING INSIDE TAKING PICTURES ALONG WITH THE DAUGHTER LAYING ON MY HOOD !!!!!! WTF !!!!! There response was !!! YOU BROUGHT IT FOR US TO ENJOY!!!!! Never again BUT I will take my bus to the VW Harvest !!!!
That sucks... but not surprising. When my bus broke down on the way to the Harvest Parade, I rolled it into the nearby park and people were leaning against it to get pictures. I need to be more like Brett - he asks for hugs from the pretty ladies in return. 🙂
I have a ‘patina’ bus. Which makes it very ‘touchable’ wherever it’s parked (it’s worse at car events if you can believe that.) I had to stop worrying about it, because people will keep on peopleing. But if i see it happen, i’ll joke about it to them. If they still do it, we’re going to have issues.
Several years back.... I was sitting in a '67 Westy I owned at a car show, you know, ummm , getting out of the wind 😉🤫(Legal Here in Cali now) and heard something hit the side of my Bus forcefully. I got out and a Guy had thrown a football into the side of my van. He thought it would be a good idea to play catch with his kid in between all the vans on display. I didn't handle it calmly pointing out the dent in the side of my van. The guy yelled back at me saying "I shouldn't have brought my van to the show if I didn't want people around it" ! 🙄I said people were fine, but throwing football into the side of my van isn't. I didn't handle it in the best way, I was young and angry. I'm glad he walked off with his kid and it didn't become a brawl in the show. With some heat and massage we got most of that dent out. Between people like that and trailer queen owners building cars that don't even run (yes, I've seen an engine case with no internals) it put me off of shows for a few years.
Footballs and car shows DO NOT go together. I'm glad it didn't escalate any further. I think we are living in a world now full of truly self -absorbed people, who believe they are pretty much free to get away with whatever they wanna.
@@TheBusGuru-kn1dt I've never been happy with how I reacted but there's no going back. I didn't know if I should deck him or make him pay for it. My Westy had really nice paint. I'm glad his kid was there because it made me back off.
Like many of you I’m sure, I always park my cars far away from other cars in a parking lot. Whenever I drive my 68 Ghia people invariably park right up next to her no matter how uncrowded the lot may be.
I'm the idiot who slides the door open, set up a step and if someone stops to glance and converse, allow them to board. I respect all the other cars and seldom get close enough to touch. Good nuff.
I've never had anyone mess with my car (when I was there) so I have no stories, but I have seen some "engine checkers" at shows open up unattended cars as if they had some sort of right to do so. I'll usually go over and ask them What kind of engine is that in your car? and they'll take off.
So in short…. If you don’t have a car in the show. 1) Be sure to bring your dog 2) Be sure to allow your children to bring their bicycles ( better to ride back and forth through the cars then walking) 3) Always wear your chain drive wallet 😂
Frisco is up north by Dallas. They have a pretty good scene up there. Home of Dubsplash show in the Spring. You are about 200 miles for the Harvest now!
I've told y'all the story before. My wife is a 'toucher'. She did that once to a Duisenberg and the old man must have gotten harder than he had in years as she caressed his car's paint. (Schwing!) She was the only one at the show to be invited to sit in the driver's seat of that million dollar car. 🙂
I am not sure if it’s pathetic or sad that we need to tell people how to behave because they have poor etiquette or they don’t teach their kids how to treat other people’s stuff. What happened to manners and common sense?😂
It's sadly pathetic ! Lets be honest. You can't blame the kids, it's the parents fault ! A lot of people don't respect their stuff so they sure as hell won't respect yours! Let's change it to un-common sense, lol.
Pro-tip: Stand with your hands behind your back. Grab one wrist with the other hand. It keeps you from mindlessly touching and it makes the owner trust you more. I am guilty of opening engine lids to take a peek. As I’ve grown a little older I’ve developed enough patience to wait and ask the owner. “When are you going to paint it? Are you going to paint it? Hey you should paint it (insert stupid color here)!” I hate that question. No sorry I don’t have 2-3 grand to blow on a paint job and I’m not taking it down to Mexico.
For me, it’s the “experts” that have to tell me all about my bus. Then ask me about the restoration job and cost. When I tell them it’s been in our family since 1969 (it’s a 68) and it’s never been restored. Yet they just assumed some older white guy opened his checkbook to buy it. When I tell them I got it since my dad died last year, it shuts them up.
When my wife and I are at car shows, our hands are behind our backs so we do not touch anyone's car. I may point some out to my wife, but never touch...if not pointing something out, hands are behind my back as I look at a car at a show... Respect is the only way to go
Cannot tell you how many times I've had to watch a child climb up on my bug to get a look inside at car shows. One child was wearing jeans with a metal button and it heard it hit my paint. Parents did nothing. Parents, if your kids to not have manners, leave them at home or put them on a leash in settings they can cause damage. Thanks.

Haven't seen the extremes, though the demos are funny we want to show off our rides.

I get pretty much the same with Jerry the Bus. Because the paint is well, sorta there, folks just figure what can it hurt.
