I'm an American and never seen this before. It's kinda like oat meal I guess but I'm about to make my first bowl of this and used this video for reference. Thanks for this
I remember as a child my mom would have me whisking the cream of wheat til my hands started hurting but it would come out so good every time. I don't know if it's a Caribbean thing but I love raisins and cinnamon sticks in my cream of wheat and oatmeal.
I'm Puerto Rican and my dad used to make this for me when I was younger, always brought back good memories I tried to make it before for my kids without asking my dad I guess because of Pride they did not like it so I made it your way and they ate a whole Bowl this morning so thank you girl new sub
Thank you. I tried what the box said. It tasted nasty I was thinking “my grandma never added water to this” but I still followed the instructions and I ended up throwing it away (I hate throwing away food) but it was that bad and now following your videos it tastes sooooo good brings back my childhood ❤️ thank you.
I thank u woman for this video it was so helpful my Puerto Rican mom is out of the state n I never really paid attention to when she made me this for me n it was my first time making it. I used this video as reference but gave it my own twist, instead of sugar I used a whole can of sweet n condensed milk, and instead of plain cow milk I used unsweetend vanilla almond milk.
yum.. :) i make farina and instead of milk i use almond milk! soy milk is also good. i just started to make it recently. my family made it a lot when i was little!
I actually cut the recipe in half for one and adjusted it for the microwave. I had this once while living in Puerto Rico for 3 1/2 years. The lady of the house only made it once, but I really like it. I was sad when she didn't make it again, but I'm so happy to be able to make it for breakfast now. Thank you for the recipe.
I just learned 2 years ago that Farina was cream of wheat. We grew up with Farina, milk ALWAYS and some sugar. Heavenly!! And it is an amazing source of iron
I’m not Puerto Rican lol but I started making it and came across your video Because I wanted to see how others do it. but I make it similar but instead I used milk powder and add butter or ghee. I like to add cinnamon and dash of ginger powder and raisin. I would use hazelnut heavy cream for coffee because I couldn’t find vanilla. Lol and used Splenda because I try cutting down on sugar!
I grew up on this, and we would cook it with water. The best way was to cook it exactly as she said, until it was relatively thick though. Then add a pat of butter, stir. Then add milk until creamy/thinner/the consistency you prefer. Also, we would often use maple syrup instead of sugar (super yum) Or Brown Sugar was ALWAYS better than the white sugar!! Another thing that is super awsome is if you have a baby or toddler, you can feed it the normally prepared way, but especially cool is that you can pur the prepared Farina into a shallow glass dish and let it cool. Then cut it into cubes for the toddler. High on iron and easier for them to eat (less messy). Also, it introduces them to different textured food. Very cheap as well! You may want to coat pan in butter or cooking spray 1st, so the cubes come out easy.
I use damn near the exact same method except no water all milk 1cp to be exact then I usually add vanilla extract just a splash, butter and cinamon of course pop in microwave for 1min and BAM but, that brown sugar idea sounds good I'm gonna try that.
Honestly I watch this video almost every day because I don’t know I got used to your voice as I’m cooking a delicious breakfast oatmeal because it feels like I’m talking to somebody lol about cooking food. I add a little bit of coconut milk and carnation milk to mine because I’m Dominican and I just like the flavor better but I like how you cook it it’s just like I don’t know relaxing to watch so thank you for sharing
I grew up with papillas/garchas in all flavors my grandmother and my mother taught me how to make them or cook them all it's 😋 delicious. Gracias abuela y mami❤🙏🙌❤👄👄 Bendicion.
You took me back to memory lane. I should have some tomorrow. We also use carnation milk but you have to add one part water one part carnation milk. And when it’s all done I like to put several tablespoons of carnation milk on top. I also like to put butter on other occasions.
I recommend for this recipe put the salt in your hand so we can see. My son poured the container like you did but he over seasoned it. It was too much. Mucha sal.
Isn't cream of wheat and farina the same thing? But I love both been eating it since I was a baby. But how do you make it without lumps cuz sometimes mine comes out lumpy which I hate
What makes it Puerto Rican? I grew up making it the same way (I’m black) lol. I was waiting for some secret ingredient. I guess we’re more alike than we think.
I used actual farina to make it and it came out thicker then I wanted. I wanted it like the video. I followed the instructions she gave but I guess the brands matter.. I should have used half of what she used

It’s basically Cream of Wheat but Hispanic 😂
How did it come out? Did you like it?
I remember as a child my mom would have me whisking the cream of wheat til my hands started hurting but it would come out so good every time. I don't know if it's a Caribbean thing but I love raisins and cinnamon sticks in my cream of wheat and oatmeal.
@Tiffany Theophim Can it be made to taste similar to cornmeal porridge or does this taste totally different?
@@gridhop it taste different
Takes me back to my childhood, when everything was simple. Thank you.
It would taste better if you add butter...delicious!
Looks good. I sometimes add a touch of french vanilla coffee creamer to the milk. YUM YUM LOL.
My gma makes it..Slovak.. She puts butter in the milk...makes it a bit thicker and sprinkles cocoa powder and sugar on top

Yariliz Morales u just don’t know how to make it. I make it w water and it comes out great. Add a lil can milk sugar and butter 😋
We use cinnamon water to cook. And then add honey and lemon juice. Fruits or other toppings as desired.

Just came from vacation in Puerto Rico. The hotel made this for breakfast almost every day. I had to find the recipe
When it’s done, I add sliced bananas 🍌 or blueberries 🫐 as a topping. The farina does thicken with time. Nice job.
My aunt would always make this and would always wait to serve it after refrigerated. Best. Stuff. Ever.
I've never tried it with vanilla extract , thanks for sharing your way of making it I will give it a try :-)
Thank You. This takes me back to my early childhood.
I make this with almond milk brown sugar and butter. It is so good.

I’m about to try this for the first time today my grandmother is making it and she’s Puerto Rican
Making it right now.... 😋
Isn't cream of wheat and farina the same thing? But I love both been eating it since I was a baby. But how do you make it without lumps cuz sometimes mine comes out lumpy which I hate
We like lumps in my house. 😎

Tried it and loved it thank you
Im researching puerto rican cooking for surprising my sexy puerto rican any suggestions... This turned out perfect
great video
Gracias! For this recipe 😋
I'm going to try it today 😍
Are you doing everything off the stove or on the stove? Like when you pour milk are boiling it on with stove on or off
I used actual farina to make it and it came out thicker then I wanted. I wanted it like the video. I followed the instructions she gave but I guess the brands matter.. I should have used half of what she used
I would put little bit of the farina because the milk will thicken and it is time consuming but it’s worth it. Such a comfort food
I dont use butter nor salt, I also leave it longer in the stove, so that its not creamy. Cooking farina for 4 takes me a good 30 to 45 mins!
When I make farina with milk it doesn't come out right. It actually comes out better when I make it with water than when milk. But I love the taste better with milk
So how do I make it with milk without it being hard lumpy etc
Literally just made this following your instructions sooo good 👍🏼👍🏼
I like to add a peel of lime and a egg yolk!
what do you mean exactly?
Tienes receta de funche? If not would you be able to upload one. Thanks
Hmmm con bacalao
My abuela makes the best farina 😋
I put coconut milk on mine
