Hey all, if you're reading the comments, check out my other Soulsborne rankings! Just posted a Demon's Souls Boss ranking today: ruclips.net/video/eCRpiXnVcI4/видео.html
Oh that's such a cool idea! bonfire are so important and they make or break some areas. (sen's fortress is so different if you don't find the hidden bonfire)
It's a concept that I know most people wouldn't bother ranking because... How? But I figured I'd get the ball rolling, see if anybody else decides to be crazy like me and do it ^^
@@BillySYT I feel like a ranking is maybe not the best way to discuss it, discussing bonfire layout area per area and see those that have bonfires that elevates the area, those that make it worse and those that lacks some bonfire spots would probably be a bit more interesting since it's the context of a bonfire (or of the absence of a bonfire) that matters. Maybe when it comes to ranking it would have lent itself better to a tier list format than an ordered rank list, but still very cool idea.
See, I purposefully chose not to do a tier list ranking because I don't particularly find them engaging to edit or create. I see them as fairly low-hanging fruit on the content spectrum, whereas with a countdown with dedicated entries, I had to challenge myself to script, gather footage & work out a concrete ranking that works for me. Most people will do Tier Lists, and perhaps that's what's "hot" on the internet, but I guarantee had a done it as a tier list, nobody would be seeing the video due to the oversaturation of that genre of video.
@@BillySYT I mean I said tier list because I find ordered list oversaturated to begin with so I was looking for a similar thing haha The point was more about having well defined criterias and trying to analyze the context of the bonfire, well that's a bit late anyway =p
I hate hidden bonfires so much. I’m playing dark souls 2 atm, and game is full of them, I would never find any of them if it weren’t for messages! I’m really enjoying the game to but I think hiding bonfires is just so cheap and unfun.
Darkroot cave bonfire deserves to be much much higher. Its the first bonfire you'll reach after skipping through Dragon Valley, and it's actually the quickest run to the 4 Kings as well. It'll also be your main bonfire for farming dragonscales if you're using multiple tail weapons.
So I've heard from everyone in the comments. I always just take Firelink down to Four Kings because I don't enjoy running past the Wyverns in Valley of the Drakes, but it's been eye-opening seeing how many people use that bonfire. Love to see it.
I can see that. I guess I didn't take it into account because in my main save file, I did a soul dupe glitch on NG+ & just bought out the Giant's Blacksmith stock of them.
I took the master key on my first playthrough and I never found the second Blighttown bonfire; I had been trekking it from Firelink Shrine to Quelaag every time, and much later was dumbfounded when I watched a video and saw a bonfire was down in that swamp.
Crystal Cave bonfire was one I used frequently because the clams drop Twinkling Titanite and I probably farmed well over 100 of those to upgrade weapons and armor. Then use their souls they give to buy more twinkling titanite from the giant of anor londo
@@BillySYT It helps too if you have the Gold Serpent Ring & 1-10 Soft Humanity for a 400 Drop chance vs the original 100 haha but yeah man go farm then in crystal cave you’ll get one quick I’m sure!
You know, that's totally valid. I tend to stick to Daughters of Chaos for anything Izalith, but I guess with the elevator timing, it's quicker to get to the Titanite Demon from there.
Similar for Seath's bonfire because it's the easiest place to farm twinkling titanite. Otherwise you have to blow your life savings on buying it of which it is cheap nowhere. xD
Just a quick note on the duke's archive cell bonfire, at least on prepare to die edition, you can actually warp from it. You just sit at the bonfire from outside the cell. Kinda funny actually. Saw it on a lobos video.
@@BillySYT I don't know if I would say exploit as much as a programming oversight... Which can be an exploit... Huh... You know what, idk. To me I just find it weird because I would expect it to be a flag set on the bonfire that you can't warp from it, rather than a zone being placed around it. *Shrug*
The Demon Ruins bonfire is there for people that didn't find the illusory wall that leads to the Daughter of Chaos one. Not everyone will find it on their first playthorugh, specially if they're going as blind as possible and it's meant to be an alternative. Also, I despise both the Vamos and Ancient Dragon bonfires because, if you rest at them before getting the Lord Vessel, you just trapped yourself in a very annoying area to space from. Believe me, going back up the tree is the definition of pain.
I think it depends if a person is playing online or not. Online, you'll see the messages on the floor near DoC. Offline, I totally see your point, but I'm just ranking based on mu experiences and I'd love to see other people create their own rankings on their experiences top. As for Ancient Dragon, I agree lol. Made that mistake once, never again. And as for the Vamos bonfire, I do agree to an extent, but I think easy access to the Blacksmith and ease of access through the catacombs post lord vessel outweigh the con.
DS2 will be fun at least, since I think they really thought about bonfire placement. DS3 though, I'll probably not include any boss bonfires EXCEPT the Dragonslayer Bonfire because it's iconic, we stan, truly the Lothric moment.
@@BillySYT Also if we account Ascetics, certain bonfires become quite more important, like the first in Huntsman's for Soul Spears, or ones next to bosses for their NG+ drops, so that could be interesting. Well, for DS3, the Cursed tree bonfire is also a Covenant one technically, so a feeew boss fires could apply, or Champion Gundyr's since it is your one fire for the other half of Graves.
@@BillySYT not to mention ranking every site of grace... Ranking the checkpoints in Demon's Souls might also be interesting, but they're only at the start of an area or spawn after defeating a boss (plus the one in the tutorial) so you're basically just ranking the areas at that point. However they do all have some flavor text, that's something to rank
About the secret Izalith bonfire, I always hear people complaining about needing to switch rings on the runback, but Bed of Chaos is a gimmick boss. What other rings could anyone possibly need while fighting it?
If I'm using Chloranthy & Havels for my build & stamina regen. But I agree it wouldn't apply to everyone - I'm just a casual who likes using crutch rings lmao
@@BillySYT: Maybe... I'd consider myself pretty casual too, however, but that's why I really don't get the importance of rings for this particular runback. Fighting Bed of Chaos is almost entirely built independent and functions pretty much the same no matter what. It would make more sense to just drop the Havel's for this one runback, as It's not like weapon damage matters in the fight, which is easy weight that can be saved off the equip load.
@@lorenzopeverelli7819: To reiterate, Bed of Chaos is a gimmick fight. It doesn't really have HP like a normal boss. Weapons are irrelevant other than range, so just use the lightest thing in your inventory. Even bare fists can one shot it.

Damn, and I thought I had just come up with an original idea... Great video! Shocked you put the Darkroot Garden bonfire so low though. It's your reprieve from 2 boss fights, and your starting point for one of the best souls farms AND PvP spots. The view is also great! I've spent so much time at this one, so it's definitely my favorite!
Hey Billy! Just found your channel, and for such a young channel, your scripting and quality is really top tier! Plus it always feels good supporting family! Sending my love from America 🏳️🌈
Gracias, I used to run a larger channel from 2013 to 2020, but I wanted to start from scratch a few years back which led to this channel. So I have a bit more experience than the channel lets on ;D
Its funny the lowest bonfire in your list is one that i like to use the most. I usually go there at the start of a run to make leeroy kill the wheelbones and the blackknight there to get his axe
Cool idea and great video! You should make a tier-list (or top 10) DS1 shortcuts. To me DS1 is the best of the series and one pf the greatest games ever made and that is in part due to the incredible interconnectivity of the world. The truth is all paths lead to firelink 😂
I personally prefer just using Firelink. Saves me from having to run past all the Wyverns. From Firelink, I just have to drop to the lower level of NLR from the first part and I'm already there. But if you love danger or you can navigate the wyverns easily, I totally see putting that bonfire higher ^^
@@BillySYT oh yeah, they're very easy to get past. You just run straight down the middle, on the left of the middle wyvern. Just manage your stamina after the first and second and burn through the middle of the last three. Go up the elevator and drop down and you're there. I just timed myself, about 1:05 versus 1:30 for your route. So it's significantly faster and worth going out of your way to the bonfire, if you're going to need a few attempts. They gave me trouble recently with my SL1 run... ha, and now Artorias is giving me trouble. I could kill Gwyn right now but doing SL1 without doing the DLC feels like it would be cheating. I just gotta git gud I suppose 🤣😭🤣😭
IMO I think manus's bonfire and the crystal cave bonfire should be swapped in the ranking. The ONLY thing the manus bonfire has going for it is astheic....that's it, there is no function to that bonfire at all, you can't even explore the rest of the area from that bonfire. The crystal caves on the other hand not only look neat with all the cyrstals and statues of other players turned to stone, but the clams right outside let you farm for a TON of twikling titanite and purging stones, both of which are very expensive to buy normally
Side note, loved the video btw. It's a pretty neat idea to rate the bonfires of the game. Haven't really seen this type of rating before and it's pretty well done :D
Totally fair. I genuinely had no idea about the clams dropping TT. Still learning new things every day about a game I've played for over 8 years. But then the biased side of me is like "Im so edgy I love Manus's boss arena THAT much."
i think my favourite is undead burg. like... effectively 3 levels revolving around the single bonfire with its various loops and shortcuts. its why dark souls shortcut is a term in my opinion. that being said, i do think that the final 3 are so good that theyre more or less interchangeable in their ranking.
It'll take me a while to get around to 3 since I'd have to record an entirely new playthrough (Demon's Souls is the next game I'm tackling), but if you sub to the channel, you'll be notified when I get to 3 ;D
I loved your video and your top 10 was spot on. I would have ranked higher the bonfire next to the halberd black knight and maybe the first Anor Londo bonfire. But your video also made me melancholic about the fire on the bonfires in og Dark Souls. Remastered looks awesome but nostalgia hit hard for first Dark Souls playthrough and those bonfire were pure magic
There really is something about those original bonfires, for sure. It's been a LONG time since I played the original version of DS, but there's there's much nostalgia there
Worst bonfire is the one next to the skeleton smith in the catacombs. Activating this got me stuck down there under leveled and begging to escape. Hours and I mean hours it took to get to the bonfire at the top.
Great idea for a video. I disagreed with a lot of your rankings, and I feel like you should’ve taken into account (or at least mentioned) the fact that you can only warp to and from some of the bonfires because that skews my ranking significantly just for utility’s sake.
I think I took the bonfire warping into consideration for everything outside of covenant bonfires. As a majority of the warpable bonfires like Ariamis, The Depths, Undead Parish, Oolacile Township, Daughter of Chaos, Firelink, etc, were all extremely high on my list. I recognize some find utility for Warrior of Sunlight, Darkmoon Tomb & Chamber of the Princess (With Chamber of the Princess perhaps being the only one I'd personally switch up since I use it to go to the Giant's Blacksmith), but I'm also ranking the bonfires from my own personal experience. I'd love to see more people take on this topic, so I can see more perspectives, because I'm well aware my POV is purely my own. Thanks for the comment though, you made me think ^^
Great video! I stumbled across your channels and rankings. You inspired me to create my own rankings of both favorite areas and favorite bosses for Dark Souls 1 & 2. (I'll post them in the comments in the appropriate videos of yours if that's ok). I love the idea for this! I wouldn't have thought of ranking the bonfires, but it's such a clever idea! I like your list. The only big disagreement on my end is that I'd probably rank the Abyss bonfire a good deal higher. It's one of the only bonfires I'll travel to 'uselessly'. In that, rather than warping, I'll sometimes go down to New Londo, and drop down into the Abyss just to warp out of the bonfire or talk with Kaathe even though warping is more logical. An idea for another ranking video: Would you ever consider ranking the unlockable shortcuts and switchbacks? Not so much the level connections, as level *RE*-connections. For example: That feeling of relief we get when we kick the ladder in Undead Burg. That shock we get when we ride the ladder in the Undead Parish, and say "Wait, Firelink Shrine! Cool--THAT's where those go!" Unlocking the long door in the sewer tunnel above firelink to make the Depths (marginally) easier to get to. Throwing open the doors of the great hall in the Painted World. Or my own personal most shocking: I didn't do much of Darkroot Basin in my first playthrough. I only beat Havel on my second playthrough. So I finally defeated him. Slowly climb up the circular tower, wary for more enemies. I see a door. I grit my teeth and approach it. Just as I'm committing to open it, the level transition tells me I'm entering.... Undead Burg? No way. Impossible. How? Is this some secret third area separate from Upper and Lower Undead Burg? Coming through the door, I realize I'm on the bridge where I fought the Taurus Demon and that long-forgotten door. I spent quite a few seconds spluttering; I had no idea at all that the level geometries lined up this way.
#37 - The Abyss: Something you failed to mention is that this is the only one that you can use the warp function at this prior to retrieving the Lordvessel, and it works with all the warp-compatible bonfires in the other pre Anor Londo locations. Although admittedly it becomes more obvious in NG+, but if you’re skilled/ brave enough to make Sif & 4 Kings the first bosses you kill, you have an under rated tool at your grasp.
It's a pretty unique skill to be sure, but at the same time in ng+ it doesn't take as long to get through the normal game anyway, so it's never something I thought about. I knew you could warp from it at any time, but not that it works with all the pre-AL bonfires. Cool ^^
How dare you... I always start the game by running through Valley of Drakes, and the Basin Cavern bonfire is the second bonfire I tag after firelink. After narrowly escaping the drakes' lightning below RTSR, it is a welcome and much needed reprise. Does it serve much purpose? No... Is it one of my favorites, perhaps in top 10? Yes!
personally, undead parish is my favorite & most used, normally where i just chill and go afk most times to bask in the music. i think if you were able to warp and not be forced to start new game+ at the kiln, then it would definitely rank higher in everybody's list. especially if they had the Gwyn music playing, just softer, less in battle and more "i did it!" awesome video man.
I think the sound of Andre at the Undead Parish is my comfort sound in these games, for sure. And thanks for watching ^^ I've got a couple of other Soulsborne countdowns on the channel if you're interested in more ^^
@@BillySYT for sure, I'll check them out! And yeah, the *tink...tink...tink...* Of undead parish definitely gives it one of the most 'homey' feels in the game. And I think it's perfect that you can warp there, for obvious reasons, but also because if you so choose to k1ll him, you can immediately sense that the homely-feel has gone away, the game reminding you of your crime by stripping away the warmth and calmness of Andre's hammer slamming against his work
While its pretty out of the way, my favorite bonfire is the one in Darkroot Garden. Parked just outside the gate where I can run in and out killing the forest hunters to farm massive amounts of souls fast. And the bonfire being right next door makes it safe to run back towards the stairs after aggro-ing the forest hunters. Therefore you don’t have to worry about chasing your souls and humanity back down if you die.
Definitely one of my favourite bonfires from a purely aesthetic sense. Great ambience, great atmosphere, perfect positioning for all your Darkroot needs.
@@BillySYT Yep! The only problem is it isn't warpable so its still pretty out of the way. Next closest thing is the bottom of Undead Burg where you fight Havel and also the Valley of the Drakes which nobody wants to visit. Both of which are still a bit of a hike.
It's definitely on the cards. Though it'll probably be a few months away before either video, since I have to record footage for both games ^^ Be sure to sub though to stay updated - Soulsborne Countdowns every Wednesday!
u said no one with master key is coming to the depths my friend actually cam to the depths despite him having master key i told him u can skip those but he did the long way anyways
I should rephrase, nobody who picked the Master Key knowing all the doors it can open, would take the Depths. If your friend was on a first playthrough, I could see why they'd go the long way to get the full experience ^^
K obviously firelink and andre are the top but my personal favorite aesthetically at least is oolacile sanctuary I was so excited to see the following area when I saw that beautiful whimsical garden only to soon be upset by the aesthetics of royal wood only to fall in love with it again when I realized it was darkroot garden overall I just think it is such an incredible bonfire and I dont know if ds1 woulc be the same without… this is frickin ridiculous no just no
2:49 I'm sorry kind sir but i have to respectfully disagree. This bonfire is great for skipping the entirety of Undead Burg and Undead Parish, as a halfway point between Firelink Shrine and Andre.
I knooow, everyone's been roasting me over that choice for a month. If I redid the list, I'd probably bump it up to 25 to 21ish (Since I still wouldn't terribly use it compared to others).
For the most part - But given for half the game, you can't warp to bonfires, I didn't take it too terribly into account. I do think the warpable bonfires are mostly high aside from covenant bonfires, but I don't really use them that much anyway. Personal preferences ^^
Hot take, Lordvessel bonfire is my least favorite on principle. Went through the whole game with only 10 flasks, a perfect amount for my experience. Then boom, here’s an extra 10 flasks. I already refused to parry Gwyn to make the fight actually interesting, but the game was going out of its way to make the fight stupidly easy.
I'm pissed, the chamber of the princess should've at least been in the top 15. Also how could you let a forgettable bonfire such as dukes archives entrance above it? Sure you can see the opening architecture in that one, but in the chamber of the princess you can see the top half and the overlooking view of the boss room
Because I don't find myself using that bonfire unless I'm visiting Giant's Blacksmith, which I never really do on regular playthroughs since I don't mess with boss weapons.
Not yet, no. Problem is that I don't really use a lot of varied builds, so I feel like I wouldn't have anything constructive to say regarding weapons - Stats, scaling, etc, it all makes my brain melt x_x
I hate Dark Souls, the fact that you cannot warp between the bon fires, not all of them, a bunch of hidden ones, merchants, and blacksmith all far away from them, all over the place as well. This game is a waste of god damn time.
Not to be rude, but why watch a video specifically on a game you dislike? I appreciate the view anyway, but you probably could have watched something that made you happier lol
I'm sorry but if you're ranking savepoints in a game maybe it's time you moved on to a different game because it seems you've exhausted the well. I love me some dark souls but this is scraping the bottom of the content barrel. 😐 The video is well made as usual but seriously dude, play something else lol Take care.
Sounds like this content isn't for you, and that's okay, I hope you find a video more to your liking, as opposed to telling me to go play a different game. But as the views on this video suggest, this topic was and is fascinating to a fair amount of people, so let's not invalidate them, shall we? Take care.

The Undead Parish is a VERY deserving #2, because if Firelink is snuffed, the Parish bonfire becomes your new home - at least for me it does.
Yup. Given when Firelink gets snuffed, you're on the trek up to Anor Londo anyway, Parish is the easy go-to.
This is accurate. In play-throughs where I forget to kick Lautrec off the cliff in Firelink, Parish comes in clutch.

Havent watched the video yet but bet that the firelink bonefire is number 1.
17:12 I’m some people
IMO I think manus's bonfire and the crystal cave bonfire should be swapped in the ranking.
Now the bonfires of Dark Souls 3!
It'll take me a while to get around to 3 since I'd have to record an entirely new playthrough (Demon's Souls is the next game I'm tackling), but if you sub to the channel, you'll be notified when I get to 3 ;D
Nice video! I think I would rate the Anor Londo booba bonfire higher just because of how monumental it feels after getting the Lordvessel.
I surprisingly enjoyed this list - also the drag races, yass queen, dark souls crossover wasn't something I needed in my life till now
The way I will bridge the gap between Drag Race & Soulsborne, and I'll proudly do it
@@BillySYT slaying demons, slaying looks. It's just natural when you think about it
Great idea for a video.
17:30, I was one of the unfortunate who ran from Andre to the Moonlight butterfly
o7
Honestly, darkroot garden bonfire is my fifth most used bonfire, lots of drake farming to be done
Crystal caves is third most used
I love that for you. It's super interesting seeing bonfires people use that I don't ^^
Yes!
It's clearly my most controversial take, but I say those differences are the spice of life. I love how passionate people are about it.
personally, undead parish is my favorite & most used, normally where i just chill and go afk most times to bask in the music. i think if you were able to warp and not be forced to start new game+ at the kiln, then it would definitely rank higher in everybody's list. especially if they had the Gwyn music playing, just softer, less in battle and more "i did it!" awesome video man.
And I think it's perfect that you can warp there, for obvious reasons, but also because if you so choose to k1ll him, you can immediately sense that the homely-feel has gone away, the game reminding you of your crime by stripping away the warmth and calmness of Andre's hammer slamming against his work
Allington it now before I watch that firelink is obviously number 1
the oppalence bit was an insta subscribe moment for me
The way I was terrified I'd scare off viewers adding a drag race meme into a Souls video, but people have been loving it lmao
@@BillySYT it made me feel safe and like I could trust your opinions better! Slay queen
Haha great idea for a tier list! I mean it has to be Firelink Shrine really doesn't it
Top 3 was spot on, cool list!
Thanks very much, I've got a few other Soulsborne lists on the channel if you're interested ^^
Great video
#46 has to be New Londo Bonfire... Because they forgot to put a damn bonfire
Please make a DS2 and DS3 bonfire ranking, this is a really interesting idea.
It's definitely on the cards. Though it'll probably be a few months away before either video, since I have to record footage for both games ^^ Be sure to sub though to stay updated - Soulsborne Countdowns every Wednesday!
I've never even played a Dark Soul why am I watching the whole thing
Because you're a cool person :D
@@BillySYT Aww shucks
when we will get "ranking every site of grace in Elden Ring"? if jarburg isn't somewhere near the top imma be pissed
I didn't know about #23 during my first play through wtf
Wait, the one at the start of Duke's Archives? I'm so sorry lmao
@@BillySYT I meant the hidden one in lost izalith but that one too
Holy shit, I’ve stumbled upon an LGBTQ+ dark souls content creator. The universe has sent me a blessing
Happy to have you ^^
Next rank all the armor sets/pieces in Dark Souls Remastered!
Oh jesus god lmao. I'll put it on the back-burner for now but we'll see
Don't wanna be rude you missed the bed of chaos Bonfire.
4:07 - Bed of Chaos bonfire.
The bonfire next to drake valley is one of my most used bonefires since i farm dark wraths all the time so im sad you put it so low
Great video
Gracias, thanks for watching! I have a couple other Dark Souls ranking videos on the channel too ^^
Dragon Greatsword is good for strength builds?
The weapon that has zero scaling with strength?
What?
...I have been living a lie
Well it does require a lot of strength to hold it. Like all dragon weapons. It scales with strength by being able to hold it. xD
@@YuyuHakurei At the strength at which you're able to use it, it gets far surpassed by many decently upgraded strength weapons
@@bihn But it goes smashy smash and shoots smashy beams
To be fair I could prob beat the game with the sword handle. That weapon definitely does enough damage fully upgraded to crush the game. xD
45?! 👁️👄👁️
Bruh ive played the game at least 20 times
How the fuck i missed so many!
u said no one with master key is coming to the depths
my friend actually cam to the depths despite him having master key i told him u can skip those but he did the long way anyways
I should rephrase, nobody who picked the Master Key knowing all the doors it can open, would take the Depths. If your friend was on a first playthrough, I could see why they'd go the long way to get the full experience ^^
K obviously firelink and andre are the top but my personal favorite aesthetically at least is oolacile sanctuary I was so excited to see the following area when I saw that beautiful whimsical garden only to soon be upset by the aesthetics of royal wood only to fall in love with it again when I realized it was darkroot garden overall I just think it is such an incredible bonfire and I dont know if ds1 woulc be the same without… this is frickin ridiculous no just no
If I were to do a ranking based on aesthetics alone, I'd agree. An easy Top 10 bonfire in that case.
I still run past it. Dying to regular enemies is a skill issue even at level 1
Isnt it also a big ranking factor if you can warp to the bonfire or not?
For the most part - But given for half the game, you can't warp to bonfires, I didn't take it too terribly into account. I do think the warpable bonfires are mostly high aside from covenant bonfires, but I don't really use them that much anyway.
Personal preferences ^^
Fair enough
Where are you from? Don't sound american but you sound "rowt" instead of "root" for route
Great vid!
I'm a Brit, thanks for asking ^^
(incredibly useful video for noobs)
Great stuff, bro 💪
Let's goooooo
Hot take, Lordvessel bonfire is my least favorite on principle. Went through the whole game with only 10 flasks, a perfect amount for my experience. Then boom, here’s an extra 10 flasks. I already refused to parry Gwyn to make the fight actually interesting, but the game was going out of its way to make the fight stupidly easy.
What about the everlasting dragon bonfire?
7:36, Number 33 (Although from a pure aesthetic perspective, I'd have placed it much higher)
@Billy S apologies, didnt even notice that one was ranked 💀😂
Trust me, I quadruple checked this list, but I get it's hard to keep track of them all even as a viewer xD
dumb enough that i like it
I'm pissed, the chamber of the princess should've at least been in the top 15.
Have you ranked weapons yet?
Not yet, no. Problem is that I don't really use a lot of varied builds, so I feel like I wouldn't have anything constructive to say regarding weapons - Stats, scaling, etc, it all makes my brain melt x_x
@@BillySYT so rank them by coolness 😀
wait I just realized I have no idea what your standard build is @@BillySYT
There are 45 bonfires?
I counted all of them yeah lol
@@BillySYT I have beaten the game 3 times, I didn't even know there was a blacksmith in the catacombs
Take care.
damn i cringed so much
