DS1 was my first Souls game, I played it for the first time back in 2015. What an experience. It was the hardest game I ever played up until that point, but i had not been that enthralled in a game in so long. The world, bosses, exploration, mystery, it was all so impeccable. Great video, I feel very similarly about a lot of these! Especially about Gaping Dragon, I love fighting it every time, it's such an epic experience for the early game.
Honestly from a lore standpoint. I love the bed of chaos. Because it makes sense for one of the smarter lords to be a puzzle. I also love how it sets the scene of the witch being superpowerful and was turned into that pathetic bug by her own over confidence.

I love the aesthetics and feel of Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith, but they have some of the worst bosses and enemy placements by a long shot. Could’ve been the best part of the game if the developers weren’t so pressed and rushed for deadlines
Sif is probably my favourite boss and that is mostly because I love swordwielding dogs and Sif is a very good sword dog/wolf. I also have to put Artorias right beside Sif because I am legally not allowed to separate dogs and their owners (these two make me emotional, I love them so much).

Props for not putting Bed of Chaos last, that’s a tired and unfair take that gets repeated too often. I just beat it first try last night in my current DS1 plathru, and I actually really love the spectacle of it, visually everything about it and the arena is honestly super cool, there’s always great tension as well trying to get to the right spots without being flung into a pit…yes it is ultimately a gimmick boss but I think it’s a cool one. Terrible runback though, I can agree to that.
To be honest the bosses aren't my favorite part of the series, and I think for a lot of people that's the case as well. For me it's easily the areas and world that are the most enjoyable
I found how to tell which pinwheel is real! Whichever one has the yellow glowing of the lanterns when he moves, thats actual pinwheel. Probably known but oh well
@@firenze6478 Gwyn is hell if you dont bring a shield, I think a few parries are necessary to enjoy the fight. He has ridiculous aggression and he has the most egregious example of input reading in the series bc no matter where he is he will just lunge at you if you try to heal. This is the same reason I struggled to enjoy some bosses like radagon but at least he gives you opportunities to heal between attacks
Isn't Capra still mandatory even with the master key, I was a thief character so I started with the master key and so I tried going into the depths without fighting the Capra demon but it said it was locked so I was forced to fight him anyway
If you're going for a 100% playthrough by killing all the bosses, Capra would be mandatory. But with the Master Key, you can unlock the door leading to Valley of the Drakes from New Londo Ruins, which leaves you right next to Blighttown's back entrance. Alternatively, you can go to Darkroot Basin, take the elevator down to Valley of the Drakes and just run through the area until you reach Blighttown. Either way, the Master Key lets you enter Blighttown from the back entrance, allowing you to skip going to the Depths entirely.
@Billy S honestly in my first play through I nearly skipped Capra and the depths till I explored the undead burg further 😅 by the time I fought Capra and the dragon in the depths I was level 60-70 and had defeated sif, explored blighttown and ash lake for an hour. Needless to say i killed Capra so fast that I was like "why is this boss hated, he's easy " until I played a new character and got quickly humbled for 30 minutes straight 😂
He is required to +6 - +10 a weapon, but not to beat the game. Using a twinkling titanite weapon or dragon weapon can allow you to fully upgrade a weapon without facing him!
My favorites are four kings, o&s and kalameet. Four kings because I love the entire concept of the abyss and the fight kknda freaked me out on my 1sz playthrough. O&s because it's just fun, great music and both ornstein and smough just look really good. Kalameet is my favorite from the DLC because I feel like that's a dragon fight done right. He is extremely punishing but also fair and won't just spam attacks like Manus for example or bosses from future games. I like bosses with reactable attacks over the ones where you have to memorize a pattern.
I just beat Dark Souls 1 for the first time a couple days ago and my ranking of the bosses from worst to best would go like this: 1. Manus, Father of the Abyss. A banger design and an amazing fight all around! 2. Great Grey Wolf Sif. She's the best girl, and I love the music and the lore. 3. Black Dragon Kalameet. I love dragons (for the most part), and Kalameet's fight gave me the best feeling out of all the bosses after beating him. 4. Knight Artorias. The only reason he's not higher is because I kinda don't like his runback. 5. Ornstein & Smough. It's Ornstein & Smough, I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said. :D 6. Seath the Scaleless. I love the lore, I love the design and I somehow don't even mind the long ass runback. 7. Gravelord Nito. Just like with Seath, his lore is very interesting and I adore his design! 8. Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. Pling pling plong. 9. Crossbreed Priscilla. Interesting gimmick, and she's cute. :) 10. Pinwheel. The vibes! I have a soft spot for him too. :) 11. Moonlight Butterfly. My second favorite design after Manus, it just straight up looks like a Bakugan, and that takes me straight back to my childhood.
My ranking (I value mechanics over lore when judging a boss): 1| Knight Artorias 2| Black Dragon Kalameet 3| Dragonslayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough 4| Manus, Father of the Abyss 5| Chaos Witch Quelaag 6| Sanctuary Guardian 7| Bell Gargoyles 8| Great Grey Wolf Sif 9| Iron Golem 10| Gaping Dragon 11| Four Kings 12| Gravelord Nito 13| Asylum Demon 14| Taurus Demon 15| Gwyn, Lord of Cinder 16| Crossbreed Priscilla 17| Pinwheel 18| Dark Sun Gwyndolin 19| Moonlight Butterfly 20| Capra Demon 21| Seath the Scaleless 22| Stray Demon 23| Demon Firesage 24| Centipede Demon 25| Ceaseless Discharge 26| Bed of Chaos
Man I love sanctuary guardian it’s my favorite ds1 fight. The best way I found to deal with it is bleed weapons. I used the ghost knife and that thing brutalized the guardian with bleed crits. I found it interesting you don’t like fighting him with DEX weapons because that’s exactly how I do it. But I guess that’s what makes these games so good we can play them differently. I’d never fight sanctuary guardian with a STR weapon.
Hellkite dragon, double sanctuary guardian, stray demon and capra demon are all worse than bed of chaos who at least has a cool design and isn’t even bad if you know what you are doing
Manus will always be my fav. he's the only boss that feels like he hasn't really aged and i also just love his design. artorias is great but gameplay wise i think he can be a little clunky nowadays. O&S also has to be one of the most overrated bosses in the series for me. it's pretty good but my good is the first phase boring. plus, ornsteins charge attack never works properly, that attack is terribly designed
My ranking after 1 playthrough Didn't fight Priscilla 25- bed of chaos (...) 24- demon firesage- pull out a black Knight weapon because he's not worth your time 23- Moonlight Butterfly- The most forgettable fight imo 22- centipede demon- only brought up by jolly cooperation 21- seath- my disappointment is immeasurable 20-capra demon- the first non awful or super dull fight, but still a pain. I did fight it before gargoyles tho 19- ceaseless- i like the lore and its not horrendous. The cheese looks funny to pull off 18- stray demon- not good, but its passable 17- Gwyndolin- not bad, surprisingly difficult 16-Iron Golem- the most inoffensive fight 15- nito- i don't hate nito, i think his boss fight is actually decent 14- pinwheel- come on, you can't hate, he's just our loveable punching bag 13- Asylum Demon- its not meant to be an insane fight and it knows that, which kinda brings up its ranking 12- Taurus demon- Like asylum demon but with a cooler arena and much scarier 11- Four Kings- the only good lord soul fight 10- Quellag- i enjoy the fight and it was the 1st time i use coop 9- Sanctuary Guardian- a nice challenge after fighting Seath's bore fest 8- Gaping Dragon- the only boss i killed bow only because i was so terrified and didn't know how to approach it 7- Bell Gargoyles- they kicked my ass 1st time around and on my recent ng+ playthrough they still do 6- Kalameet- my 2nd Hardest boss, i don't know how to feel about ng+, looks cool as hell tho 5- Sif- there hasn't really been a boss that's made me feel this bad about killing it. 4- Ornstein and smough- my hardest fight, took me at least 9 hours overall to beat them. Very few come close to them in difficulty from. Id say only Kalameet, Sigrun from gow(2018) or Samur from Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods 1 gives them a run for their money. 3- Artorias- VERY close but i still love artorias, he's sad but also very challenging and a joy to fight. I just found a little bit easier than expected (still very difficult). But his moveset and speed make him a true duel to remember 2- Gwyn - i expected a breeze of a fight but it was actually very challenging. The only thing he has over Artorias is that i found him more difficult than artorias who wasn't a massive challenge for me. I loved fighting him and was an depressing, amazing challenge. 1- Manus- Close again, but Manus was the perfect fight. Agressive enough to be a huge challenge but gives you ample time to heal. Cinematic, fun to dogde, pure chaos and i adore it. He'd probably be 1st in difficulty if i didn't use a black knight sword as i found my greatsword too slow for him. But i think he hit all the right place a boss should for me
It kills me with gwyn that you are saying he is baby easy mode and the easiest to parry then miss like 5 parries in a row. I feel like the lower end of bosses is hard to pick. Besides bed of chaos being the bottom, i feel like all the bad bosses are all equally bad for different reasons. Meanwhile i feel like the top 5 are so easy to list out and i am glad they learned (for the most part) what made people love or hate the bosses for ds3 and elden ring
I actually agree. I just mean in visuals, they're all strikingly similar, and we know after the DS1 DLC Miyazaki began work on Bloodborne, so both statements can be true ^^
I always found Manus to be an extremely easy boss. He's like an anomaly. My experiences with him are so much different than everyone else's. In my first playthrough, I beat him first try, pendentless. And trust me, my build was not op. Great Scythe all the way. I ran it back on my second playthrough to see if it was a fluke. First try as well. This time, with the pendent, but I hardly used it. Only twice if I recall correctly. It's strange because I wouldn't call myself a god gamer. At the time, I died way way way too much to O&S and it took me hours to beat the Abyss Watchers. I am far better than that now of course, but it was an outlier for me. Manus is just easy.
Oh thank god I'm not the only one thirsting over Artorias and Ornstein. Artorias is also easily my number one pick, as he's the only boss I died to a bunch without feeling like a victim of weird hitboxes. (Like how Ornstein stabbed me through Smough's stomach for 6.5 hours straight on my first run, I'm still salty.)
Did anyone else have way more trouble with DS1 than any other soulsborne game? I’ve beaten elden ring about 10 times with limited issues, just beat dark souls 3 with no issue really besides a little with Lorian Prince and Midir and Gael, and wasn’t that bad within 10-15 tries I succeeded. Dark souls 1 I can’t even get past the damn skeletons in one of the first parts of the game. The underground catacomb place with a million skeletons I literally had to stop playing because I died about 300 times and was about to put my head thru the wall.
Catacombs should not be explored until after Ornstein and Smough in Anor Londo. Go up to the Undead Burg first. I have some trouble with DS1 compared to the newer titles because, ironically, its slower pace makes me dodge at the wrong times. Parrying is much easier in DS1 though, too bad most bosses can't be parried.
I actually agree with firesage being last, I had the same take when the game first came out and I strongly believe it is worse than the bed of bs, also I love your voice but anyway ya I don't think the bed of chaos is that bad it's not good but it's not as terrible as some people make it out to be and it's kinda funny on a first playthrough
Bed of Chaos I fully think it’s the worst boss I’ve ever fought in a game. I genuinely went in thinking ‘surely it can’t be that bad’ and it WAS and I’m almost impressed it managed to live up to that hype. Centipede demon really sucks also though. It just sucks. I hate the fact that you have to fight him to get the ring that makes you not instadie to lava… in a pool of lava. Great stuff. Also his attacks have such awful hitboxes.
Honestly artorias is the only boss fight in dark souls that I found genuinely great. I don't find dark souls 1 boss fights all that amazing, and while I really appreciated asylum demon, taurus demon and queelag for their role in the game design I feel like they aren't boss that I'd like to fight again just for the fight (I actually think O&S is not a great fight), Artorias is the only fight I'd genuinely like to do again right now without to overall context of a playthrough. It's crazy how much better the bosses got over time. If you put artorias in dark souls 3 it'd be a relatively mid to high quality boss way behind bosses like gael, friede or the princes, and if you compare him to sekiro's bosses he wouldn't be last because the dual ape fight exist but that 's really it. (I realize sekiro plays really differently, I'm just talking in term of pure enjoyment of the fight itself) well I'm not counting the folding screens monkeys cause it's not a fight.
@@BillySYT new video idea: dark souls sexualities based purely on vibes Ornstein is gay af Artorias has strong bi energy Raya is gay but in denial Andre is aroace Solaire is a straight, but an ally Siegmeyer is “straight” but had a questionable experience in college once Sieglinde is a flaming lesbian I can and will keep going lol this is very fun
Knowing how to get around the BS surrounding the Bed of Chaos still doesn't make it an actual fun fight...because there barely is one. It's more like those FLUDD-less challenge stars from Super Mario Sunshine except Dark Souls isn't really made for this sort of gameplay. Say what you will about the Curse-Rotted Greatwood from DS3, but that's at least a giant tree boss you actually fight with.
I'll never get why people think Ornstein and Smough are hard, i ALWAYS kill then in 3 attempts max no mather the build, no mather the level, they are piss easy and predictable...
I think both Demon's Souls & Dark Souls 1 as a whole are very slow games, so that's probably why. Especially compared to the pacing of bosses in future titles. I get the sense they didn't really hit their stride until the Artorias DLC.
@@BillySYT That's true. Other bosses have something to compensate, The Four kings have numbers, Taurus demon is fought on a narrow bridge and Iron Golem throws you off a cliff. I think it's one of the only true "fair" fights in ds1, which Fromaoft hadn't yet mastered. Great video btw, this channel is underrated
I would sub, but this ranking has a fatal flaw: Ofc u can have ur wrong opinion but its stupid not to rank them on 1. playthru. Why? Because any games is judged by the 1.pt. if ur not reviewing replayability - and only that. So yea bed of chaos is muuuuuch worse than say capra demon.
No worries, we all rank things on different metrics - It's subjective and different people have different experiences. I base these rankings on my personal experiences & opinions, because I find it more interesting than repeating the exact same rankings that the community determined for these games years ago. But I will note, I did mention at the end of the Bed of Chaos segment that had I been using just the first playthrough as my metric, that I would have ranked it last, and I totally understand why people would do the same.
Opinion kinda solid with the exception of bed of chaos but everybody has an opoion ay? Channel kinda decent, I know people with more subscribers but worse content then yours, keep it up man.

I’m glad I’ve found somebody else who likes the bed of chaos.
Preach it!
Oh my god... finally. Someone else gets just how bad Demon Firesage is. I thought I was alone in it.
I'm pretty sure most of the community hates it. I just hate it more than everything else lmao
Manus, daddy of the abyss?!? Am I hallucinating!
:)
Good vid 👍
To be honest the bosses aren't my favorite part of the series, and I think for a lot of people that's the case as well. For me it's easily the areas and world that are the most enjoyable
Did you not know that you can get the Iron Golem to fall off the roof in his boss fight when making this?
I found how to tell which pinwheel is real! Whichever one has the yellow glowing of the lanterns when he moves, thats actual pinwheel. Probably known but oh well

Gwyn is S tier if you don’t bring a shield.
@@servillian2363 just use the pillars. He will attack them and take ages to realize that you aren’t a pillar
Hell yeah!!!
I'd swap bed of chaos and moonlight butterfly then swap smough and quelaag for reasons related to ornstein.. anyways back to binging your channel
34:33 just curious, why are you using “they” referring to Sif?
"Flaming homosexual." Ha!
I don’t know why, but on the Switch version, Mr Discharge does nothing but the flame blast attack for me
my top 3 hardesd are:1 kalameet,2 manus,3 smough and ornstein all 3 of those managed to claim my life once each on my first playtrough
"por favor" won my subscription
We love a bit of Spanish on this channel
@@BillySYT oh, i was talking about portuguese(im brazilian) but it wont take out my subscription
I just beat Dark Souls 1 for the first time a couple days ago and my ranking of the bosses from worst to best would go like this:
10. Pinwheel. The vibes! I have a soft spot for him too. :)
11. Moonlight Butterfly. My second favorite design after Manus, it just straight up looks like a Bakugan, and that takes me straight back to my childhood.
I’m with you on bed of chaos
Really respect your opinion
I had the exact top 10 fights bar Sif lmao (I’m a cat guy).
I'm a cat guy but Sif is my exception lmao
My ranking (I value mechanics over lore when judging a boss):
1| Knight Artorias
2| Black Dragon Kalameet
3| Dragonslayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough
4| Manus, Father of the Abyss
5| Chaos Witch Quelaag
6| Sanctuary Guardian
7| Bell Gargoyles
8| Great Grey Wolf Sif
9| Iron Golem
10| Gaping Dragon
11| Four Kings
12| Gravelord Nito
13| Asylum Demon
14| Taurus Demon
15| Gwyn, Lord of Cinder
16| Crossbreed Priscilla
17| Pinwheel
18| Dark Sun Gwyndolin
19| Moonlight Butterfly
20| Capra Demon
21| Seath the Scaleless
22| Stray Demon
23| Demon Firesage
24| Centipede Demon
25| Ceaseless Discharge
26| Bed of Chaos
The important thing is that Number 1 is perfect 😍
@@BillySYTFor sure. Thought i would cause a lot of controversy for having Gwyn so far down the list, but I guess that's not the case 😂
Based purely on mechanics, I can see it. Gwyn is just a really fast sword swinger who happens to have a cool grab.
Kinda nice :)))
I’d never fight sanctuary guardian with a STR weapon.
ok I’m sorry but how are you that bad at parrying it legit looks like your trying to miss 30:08
Hellkite dragon, double sanctuary guardian, stray demon and capra demon are all worse than bed of chaos who at least has a cool design and isn’t even bad if you know what you are doing
pretty valid for not putting BoC dead last but i would make some arrangements personally, unfortunately DS1 suffers from a boss design though
Unpopular opinion: I love Capra demon boss. Something about it does not allow me to hate it.
Manus will always be my fav. he's the only boss that feels like he hasn't really aged and i also just love his design. artorias is great but gameplay wise i think he can be a little clunky nowadays. O&S also has to be one of the most overrated bosses in the series for me. it's pretty good but my good is the first phase boring. plus, ornsteins charge attack never works properly, that attack is terribly designed
not having the bed of chaos as ur worse boss in all of soulsborne should be illegal
I must be a criminal then :o
@BillySYT indeed. Otherwise acually good list tho, I despise seath
My ranking after 1 playthrough
Didn't fight Priscilla
25- bed of chaos (...)
24- demon firesage- pull out a black Knight weapon because he's not worth your time
23- Moonlight Butterfly- The most forgettable fight imo
22- centipede demon- only brought up by jolly cooperation
21- seath- my disappointment is immeasurable
20-capra demon- the first non awful or super dull fight, but still a pain. I did fight it before gargoyles tho
19- ceaseless- i like the lore and its not horrendous. The cheese looks funny to pull off
18- stray demon- not good, but its passable
17- Gwyndolin- not bad, surprisingly difficult
16-Iron Golem- the most inoffensive fight
15- nito- i don't hate nito, i think his boss fight is actually decent
14- pinwheel- come on, you can't hate, he's just our loveable punching bag
13- Asylum Demon- its not meant to be an insane fight and it knows that, which kinda brings up its ranking
12- Taurus demon- Like asylum demon but with a cooler arena and much scarier
11- Four Kings- the only good lord soul fight
10- Quellag- i enjoy the fight and it was the 1st time i use coop
9- Sanctuary Guardian- a nice challenge after fighting Seath's bore fest
8- Gaping Dragon- the only boss i killed bow only because i was so terrified and didn't know how to approach it
7- Bell Gargoyles- they kicked my ass 1st time around and on my recent ng+ playthrough they still do
6- Kalameet- my 2nd Hardest boss, i don't know how to feel about ng+, looks cool as hell tho
5- Sif- there hasn't really been a boss that's made me feel this bad about killing it.
But his moveset and speed make him a true duel to remember
2- Gwyn - i expected a breeze of a fight but it was actually very challenging.
I figured people would have fun with my Gwyn footage. I still think he's baby easy mode when it comes to parrying, I'm just a bit rusty lmao
36:10 Manus being a prototype for Cleric Beast and Laurence. I really think Manus is way better than thos two. Specially better than Laurence :P
I actually agree. I just mean in visuals, they're all strikingly similar, and we know after the DS1 DLC Miyazaki began work on Bloodborne, so both statements can be true ^^
@@BillySYT I see, visually they're similar. I thought you meant the fight haha
Stray demon is way too high
It can kill you while you are getting up from falling.
On the one hand, Ornstein stabbed you.
On the other hand, Ornstein stabbed you.
Win/Win imo.
@@BillySYT You make a very good point, I did get stabbed by Ornstein, absolute win
I'm sorry to tell you this but the catacombs is actually a late game area :(
Catacombs should not be explored until after Ornstein and Smough in Anor Londo. Go up to the Undead Burg first. I have some trouble with DS1 compared to the newer titles because, ironically, its slower pace makes me dodge at the wrong times. Parrying is much easier in DS1 though, too bad most bosses can't be parried.
Just parry the skeletons and it’s easy mode
24:43 real
I actually agree with firesage being last, I had the same take when the game first came out and I strongly believe it is worse than the bed of bs, also I love your voice but anyway ya I don't think the bed of chaos is that bad it's not good but it's not as terrible as some people make it out to be and it's kinda funny on a first playthrough
gaping dragon number 1
Capra Demon is a top 5 boss
(I realize sekiro plays really differently, I'm just talking in term of pure enjoyment of the fight itself) well I'm not counting the folding screens monkeys cause it's not a fight.
subbed
I hate to break it to you but Ornstein is definitely a bottom, Artorias though…
Oh Ornstein is 100% a bottom, but a man can dream
@@BillySYT new video idea: dark souls sexualities based purely on vibes
Ornstein is gay af
Artorias has strong bi energy
Raya is gay but in denial
Andre is aroace
Solaire is a straight, but an ally
Siegmeyer is “straight” but had a questionable experience in college once
Sieglinde is a flaming lesbian
I can and will keep going lol this is very fun
@@thecobe-lee9674and smough?
Knowing how to get around the BS surrounding the Bed of Chaos still doesn't make it an actual fun fight...because there barely is one. It's more like those FLUDD-less challenge stars from Super Mario Sunshine except Dark Souls isn't really made for this sort of gameplay. Say what you will about the Curse-Rotted Greatwood from DS3, but that's at least a giant tree boss you actually fight with.
I waited too long for Bed of Chaos :(
When are you ranking Every Soulsborne Boss Based On How Much They Can Get It, you coward
Bed of Chaos is the worst
I'll never get why people think Ornstein and Smough are hard, i ALWAYS kill then in 3 attempts max no mather the build, no mather the level, they are piss easy and predictable...
I will never understand why Fromsoftware made Quelaag so easy, she's so slow
I think both Demon's Souls & Dark Souls 1 as a whole are very slow games, so that's probably why. Especially compared to the pacing of bosses in future titles. I get the sense they didn't really hit their stride until the Artorias DLC.
@@BillySYT That's true. Other bosses have something to compensate, The Four kings have numbers, Taurus demon is fought on a narrow bridge and Iron Golem throws you off a cliff. I think it's one of the only true "fair" fights in ds1, which Fromaoft hadn't yet mastered.
Great video btw, this channel is underrated
Trying to guilt people into following your channel by showing that dumb chart is hilarious 😂
I would sub, but this ranking has a fatal flaw:
Ofc u can have ur wrong opinion but its stupid not to rank them on 1. playthru.
