I liked Genichiro because he helped show progression, he was incredibly hard at the beginning, a challenge in the middle of the game and a push over at the end

Genichiro is a brilliant boss, he has a ridiculous amount of moves, he can chain almost everything, and yet all his strikes are telegraphed to the point where once you learn him, you can read everything he throws at you in an instant. Favorite move has to be the one where he combos into either the sweep or the thrust, I still get caught by that occasionally.

If you have auger of ebrietas and a semi-fast melee weapon, you can usually keep spamming r1 and then use your auger immediately before you run out of stamina. This should allow your stamina bar to fill up, and you can resume r1 as soon as he gets up. With a decently leveled character, repeating this process will have you ending this fight without a scratch very quickly.

The first run, you run straight out onto the bridge and as soon as he comes out and you're getting ready, got your shield up? You get shot right in the fuckin back, and it's not long til that spells the end for you.
So on the next run, you immediately turn around and see that ladder, so you climb up and fuck those doods up! Then you realize, "Hey! Wait a minute... THE PLUNGING ATTACK!"
On top of that, it's the first REAL boss, and most definitely the first boss that will make you feel that dread from not wanting to deal with the run back to it after losing.
    Great boss.

Genichiro might be the best idea From Soft had. Mind you, he's not the best boss, but the fact that they put him in the game 3 times, making him nigh unbeatable at first, a challenge in the middle and then a complete joke at the end shows progression.
Furthermore, Genichiro is the first bossfight that really teaches you how combat is different in Sekiro. You're meant to Deflect, to feel the rhythm of the fight, to know when to push your advantage ( when he pulls out his bow for instance ) and attack. I can almost fight Genichiro blind, because I know that after 2 hits from me he's going to deflect and attack, and then -I- deflect and attack with my 1-2, making the fight a really enjoyable dance.

Even if he's extremely hard, he's still an absolute top tier boss. Idk, I just, don't think that the challenge they pose shouldn't be a factor for the quality of the boss, mainly because like, it varies from player to player depending on skill level, as well as other factors. I think lore should be a bigger factor than challenge posed. Which is why I didn't agree with the Yhorm ranking, I think Yhorm is an absolute spectacle of a boss fight, even if it is easy.

Dancer is my favorite boss in the entire series, easily. The design, the animations, the setting the music, and the difficulty not only make it one of the best in the series, but also incredibly unique. The way she almost swims through through the air as she walks like some kind of land based shark, or sea monster is insane, and very surreal. The rest of the animations are god tier. And her design is maybe my favorite in the series. Combined with the fact that she’s either insanely hard or very doable based on knowing the fight, and that she sets the arena on fire progressively during the second phase of the fight makes her just the best imo.

I don't mind the gimmick fights at all and honestly kind of wish there was more of them. a lot of dark souls 3's bosses are excellent but are so similar they kind of overshadow each other. like dancer is good, but is completely outdone by pontiff, an earlier fight, so dancer's fight suffers in that regard. I think my favorite fight from vanilla ds3 is like lothric or abyss watchers. neither are particularly challenging but I really liked the gimmick of having the little brother revive lorian and cast magic during phase 2, and abyss watchers phase 1 was a cool way to represent the lore in the fight. it was way more interesting than if it had just been 2 more solo humanoid with roll catch combos. I think bloodborne hit a sweet spot for me personally of having many interesting and good bosses that were diverse and unique from each other

Every die hard fan melted the first time they heard Gwynn's soundtrack when fighting the Soul of Cinder and you definitely felt the power of his charge when mimicing Champion Gundyr or the moves of Ludwig from Bloodborne it is one hell of a fight. It didn't hit the note with casual players or just speedrunnerts because the fight itself is not that hard and I definitely think that at least 3 phases was the way to go for the final boss of the original game. For the reasons above it didn't get as much credit as it should have but the atmoshphere, the music, the place making you feel like you are at the end of your long journey, the feeling that he is not even a lost soul just an amalgamation of everything that is within the Dark Soul. I never beat him personally. A fight that takes 15 minutes and the fact that you can get one-shot don't combine well for me. It becomes a test of endurance more than anything. Friede, Demon Princes, Gael and even Nameless King to a degree have this problem but Midir is the tankiest by far, making it the most concentration/endurance-testing one.

A personal issue I had with Dark Souls II's bosses, is that so many of them are just guys in armor.

    • @plugshirt1762

Personally I feel the exact opposite humanoid enemies are by the far the most fun to fight and the majority of other bosses I find mediocre besides certain dragon bosses, Ludwig, and demon of hatred which are all amazing. The problem with the one’s in ds2 though is that they’re all slow and easy to fight. The only base game exception being mirror knight mainly due to style points. The dlc humanoid bosses though are amazing with sir all one and fume knight. I think the best bosses are super fast paced humanoid bosses with a ton of moves though such as gael, orphan of kos, and owl father. Something that really exemplifies it is that ds3 for the most part has just guys in armor but they’re all unique in certain ways to be enjoyable while ds2 human bosses are just mody all similar

    • @LuigiGamesful
      @LuigiGamesful 2 года назад +7

Eh, agree to disagree. Most of the large beasts' fight strategy is just "dodge this, slash his ass, dodge his AoE, repeat" because of their size. If you're talking about design-wise, IMO the armored bosses often have more detail and more "unique-ness" to them, even though it's only *very* slightly better than the large monsters.
But tbh idk. I just rather fight someone like Pontiff who is like skill test with all the parrying and shit, than a big ass demon with broken hit boxes and unfair moments.
It's a different case for Bloodborne though since in that game, the whole premise is fighting these different beasts so yeah

    • @gunnellagann

When you look at it that way, you can't acknowledge thr designs of bosses. Look Glass Knight wears a crown of thorns (Christian symbolism), Sir Aloone wears eastern armor with a western twist. The Pursuer's armor is a reflection of the Elite Knight set, except it's distorted with bodies and souls (it's the "shadow" in a Jungian perspective of Ds2), and the Lost Sinner wears chains and calls herself that because she punished her own self.

Because it's DS2's whole theme lol, wtf.
The theme was a fallen kingdom, demons & monsters bosses in dark souls are awesome, but that's not the point of the dark souls 2's theme and atmosphere.
And in my personal opinion, the only bosses that feels like dudes in armor were dragonrider, old dragonslayer & ruin sentinels.

Living Failures are easy but nothing has ever given me chills like listening to that OST while they summon the literal cosmos to flatten you

The Living Failures OST is underrated. I listen to it all the time.
