George Lucas being called a one hit wonder is crazy, as a director he does not have as many successes but as a writer hes easily one of the best story tellers of all time, Indiana Jones, The Prequals, the OT, Clone Wars TV show. He does need assistance in keeping his scripts sound human, the prequal trilogy as proof what happens when hes given free reign, but from a creativity standpoint, I dont think there are many who can come close to his world building and stories.

(If you say obi wan calling Vader Vader instead of anakimnif he called him anakin the twist would never be a twist) but then episodes 1-3 went a bit off the rails George knew what he wanted but now exactly how to get there but episode three a masterpiece despite the first two episodes. And then I believe George Lucas lost the ability to determine what happens with episode three. And if he did he had no idea what he was doing. Episodes 4-6 are perfection nobody can deny that. Episodes 1-2 suck. Episode three is one of the best of all time, sequal trilogy is garbage and notice that the ones that are good are the ones geeorge had control over George planned. Sequal trilogy should have never happened if it never happened then the entire series would have ended perfectly! But the sequal trilogy did happen. That’s why I disrespect George Lucas. He made an amazing series and threw it away with an unplanned sequal. But despite the garbage that is the sequal trilogy George lucas tried to make the movies exactly as he had planned. It’s not lie hit sat back and let it happen. Man I ranted I’m sorry. Have a good day

It looks great and has a lot of fantastic locations, has some really interesting (if underutilised) characters like Saw, Krennic and Galen who I wish were featured more, despite the uncanny valley I really liked Tarkin in the film. Michael Giachinno hits the soundtrack out of the park, like it's the best of traditional John Williams with a fresh twist, it is so so good and then it had what is in my opinion the best space battle in any Star Wars film over Scariff, it takes the feeling of the OT modernises it without ruining that OT feeling.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Corden The Unfunny? I thought not. It’s not a story most Comedians would tell you. It’s a Cringe legend. Darth Corden was a British "stand up comedian", so pitiful and so lame he could use his jokes to influence his audience to walkout… He had such a knowledge of unbearable impressions that he could even keep the ones he cared about from participating in Carpool Karaoke. 31:33 the dumb Rose and Finn moment here reminded me of a bit of dialogue exchange in The Empire Strikes Back where Luke is arguing with Yoda about going to Bespin to save Han, Leia, and co. and Yoda insists on not getting involved. Luke then angrily snipes back at Yoda and asks credulously “What, you think I should let them just die?” And Yoda answers, “If you honor what they fight for, yes.” Finn being allowed to willing sacrifice himself would have actually been a great moment to follow through on Yoda’s advice on a narrative level, since Han and Leia and co. did not get captured of their own volition and Finn’s entire arc was focused in what he was about to do, which could have even added some more motivation for the main characters. Just a thought.

Rebels was not the best Star Wars media however it had some one of the best moments in Star Wars like the final duel between ObiWan and Maul, Ahsoka and Vader duel, and Ezra and Thrawn being launched into the void (although that was kinda silly).
The problem with Force Awakens is that everyone lumps it in with the new trilogy rather than judge it on its own. Yes, it is pretty copy and paste from A New Hope but Snoke was an interesting concept, Finn had SO much potential, Rey wasn't hot dogshit at this point so she was kinda interesting, Kylo was kindof an edgelord but still pretty cool at this point, had fairly good nostalgia that hit the mark pretty well with Han and Luke, also the cinematography was great. Knight at MINIMUM and Master at MOST.
Phantom Menace was noooot that great tbh but the final quarter of the movie with the space battle, Qui Gon/ObiWan vs Maul, and the droid battle (Darth Jar Jar) kinda saved it from Average/Below Average. I'd say Knight or high Knight.

They could have taken the story in the direction of the Sith order trying to revive itself after Anakin destroying it while our heroes grow to stop them, that sort of deal.

@@CoolJoshido212 Yeah, they fell back onto A New Hope and nostalgia quite heavily, but they still introduced some elements of their own. As I mentioned before like Snoke, the Imperial Remnant reforming into the First Order, "some" politics with the New Republic refusing to help the Resistance which means 3 different powers present in the galaxy, Finn being a defector from the Stormtroopers was a cool concept. It was alot of copy and paste but it did have some new things to think about.
Plus in a New Hope, Luke was just some random kid (as far as we know from the perspective of ANH alone) who was to join the Rebellion. We didn't care too much about where he came from. Rey had a bit more mystery surrounding her background as it's one of the big plotpoints in the story which I thought was nice (then the following episodes ruin it by saying "you're a Palpatine 😮").

Besides the rumor that Palps drained Padme’s life, dying from a “broken heart” or “losing the will to live” is actually a thing. A prime example is how the spouse left behind in death in a lot of elderly couples who have been together for a long time don’t live too long after their spouse dies, because the grief and stress of losing someone that close to them has a toll on their physical health. So considering how emotionally distraught Padme was to find out her husband was abandoning the very morals she fought and stood for in the Senate, turned evil, killed the Jedi and helped overthrow the senate to being about the empire-basically the end of justice and freedom-all before they were going to have a family, and the last memory she had was of him calling her a traitor and choking her out…yeah…I’d say that’s pretty traumatic and heart-breaking event.
I can probably let that slide if the Palpatine thing isn’t true.

And if you really pay attention to some of the episodes, like you said, the politics in star wars from the clone wars feels 10x more real. You got so many sub plot points that probably flew over kids heads the first time. Which makes Palpatine being the chancellor actually believable. Those themes in almost each episode gives great rewatch potential too. I think TCW is the best thing that has happened to star wars in the past 10 years. Last Jedi's issues are mainly "The Way that character's acting doesn't hold up with how they should." Or "That subplot was boring and the overall message fell flat even though I blatantly saw what he was trying to do heavy handedly." whereas with Rise of Skywalker it's like "These people don't even act like humans, all the humor falls painfully flat, there's absolutely no stakes or tension, characters teleport exactly where they have to be for the plot, and half the main plot elements don't make sense." And "What was this movie even attempting to say/do, it subverts its themes and setup moments constantly." I mean JJ Abrams didn't even have the balls to kill off a fucking new side character with 8 min of screen time in Zori Bliss. We literally saw her entire fucking planet explode while it was under an imperial blockade that was said to be impenetrable unless you had a specific medallion, a Medallion that she only had one of which she gave Poe. Let's put it this way, at least the prequels were unique and had character. They don't feel like the absolute corporate slog that was the sequels, which was literally ONLY the most basic unoriginal plot pieces, and only used common tropes. The entire series was written around common movie tropes that "work" instead of making a movie around a story. It's literally, "what's the most likely thing you would see at this point in a movie, DO THAT" I was never caught off guard, never felt attached to any of the classic copy-paste characters, and never could even pin down the personality of anyone or anything about those movies. It's the equivalent of how Disney's pumping out copy-paste princess movies that always have the same ending, and general plot development.

@@dweep9546 There was almost no CGI to speak of in general at the time... the movie was made in the late 70s, and released in 1980. Star Wars then, much like it is now was considered a spectacle of visual effects. It still incorporated it, but they used it sparingly as the technology wasn't really there until almost a decade later. Which, to be fair to Matt the visuals do look dated in the HD versions. On VHS it still looks good, due to the lower detail masking the puppets, and other practical affects better. You can really tell Yoda is a puppet for instance on Blueray.

It blows the original trilogy out of the water imo. Yes, they have the luxury of hours and hours but the clone wars is what makes Star Wars great. The original trilogy is so self contained. It’s effectively a story about a group of friends. It’s Star Wars but not really Star Wars”. They are good individual movies to watch, especially considering the time, but I feel like it’s sooo insanely limited in scope. Even the prequels do so much more in the way of world (galaxy) building politics etc. The rise of the empire alone is more compelling in my mind than almost any plot point of the originals.
