I've played this song for yrs it was my sisters favorite and we played it for her at her funeral. She's been gone for a yr now and its really difficult for me to get through these days. Thanks for doing this.
Absolute GREAT job Scott. I know it inside and out. You nailed it.. This song I requested to be played at my funeral. My absolute favorite REAL Skynyrd song of all time and I love them all. I think it’s absolutely humanly impossible to write such a good song but Lynyrd Skynyrd did. I 8 tracked myself 20 plus years ago playing everything but the drums and the singing. I still have it on Cassette to this day.
Hey Scott, perfect timing! I'm a huge skynyrd fan and beginner guitar player. My instructor said pick a song along with learning basic chords, we can do both. I picked Simple Man!! I've only learned / practices the intro as of now. This video will be a big help. Thanks for posting all these videos.
@@seraines after simple man, in your opinion, what would be another good song for a beginner electric guitar player? I know their 1972- 77 catalog very well so it doesn't have to be a popular one.
Awesome video you are an excellent teacher and player. I grew up with Skynrd on the turntable non stop.. so glad I found your channel thanks for sharing!
Excellent, Scott... thanks so much for posting! I look forward to every post. I always had a little difficulty with picking the EXACT string pattern of the rhythm..The licks and solos were... Simple, Man! :)
Thank you so much for doing this great song Scott! I never noticed the second rhythm guitar! Great run through of all the parts. I've got a lot of work to do! I hope someday I get it good enough to play it for you!! Hope you guys are all well and we get to see ya somewhere soon!
When I got the notification about this video, I couldn’t wait to watch it. Very cool. I haven’t gotten to see APB yet, so it was fun to see and hear that Hughes guitar, too. By the way, if possible, I think it would be awesome if you and Jerry could do a video together.. on Gimme Three Steps! Anyway, keep the videos coming. They’ve been a great source of relief (for lack of a better word) from all the crazy stuff that’s been going on in the world lately. 👍🏼
Thanks for doing these, I’ve learned 3 songs off you in a couple of days! I’m not a natural guitar player as I’ve no ear for it. At first I was dismissive of the way you do it as I’ve only ever learned from note for note lessons but the way you do it forces me to use my ears and helps with my phrasing no end. I’ve come on more in a few days than I have in years! Thanks again. Russ.
Thanks for doing this Scott. An absolutely beautiful and moving song. However, the tricky part of this song is the order of the picking while cycling through the C, G, & Am chords. Would you kindly provide this info. I tried slowing down the video with the RUclips settings but it is difficult to see exactly what is going on. Thanks - Steve
Very Fond Memories with this song. First Skynyrd Solo I learned. Sing it all the time with my band, usually end up playing guitar as well, Not easy but one hell of a reward.
Thank you so much for sharing and most of all thank you for your attention to detail. I’ve been playing for several years but I have come to a point that I’ve lost the drive to play but these videos have got me fired up to get back to learning more about my guitar. Thank you so much for these videos. Would you please do “ I need you” Thank you Scott
Awesome lessons on Skynyrd tunes! I JUST found these superb teaching videos! Thank you for the detailed lessons! BTW, I love your guitar in this video! Who made it??😊
Love your style and all your lessons. Glad your hand is better !!!! I want to set up a small home practice area and wondered if you had any quick tips on gear? I have an SG from the 70s a couple of ovation electric acoustic and a Taylor 614 acoustic I’ve been playing for a long time but mostly acoustic want to play both again and just practice and play mostly by myself. I know that’s a large question but I didn’t know if you had a website that might list out some of your practice gear. Thank you Scott.
how did you take that down a 1/2 step, what is that piece of equipment you used for that, just turning a knob? Great videos, simple man is one of my favorite songs from skynyard, I have been listening to their music since the 4th grade, never gets old, like you said, every one of their songs is a good one. thanks so much for making and posting these videos!!!
Hey, Thanks so very much for the amazing lessons! Would you mind telling us what your using on the Kemper for the tone? In The Needle And The Spoon lesson you mentioned using MBritt's 72 Marshall and 2 minutes later I had the same tone which was amazing, but I'm not sure what your using here.
Peavey Mace (MBritt). Intro/verse: “Clean” has very slight breakup, but I roll off guitar volume. Gain is set to 2.3. Chorus: amp gain to 3 and I add green scream 4.5 drive (guitar a bit rolled off) to pre amp pedal chain. Solo, amp gain 3, add green scream (drive 5) & rotary speaker(12.0cm distance, 100%mix) in pre amp pedal chain and in post amp loop, add pure poster with +2 volume. Try that and let me know how it works.
@@seraines That worked perfectly! Thank you so very much for taking the time and giving so much info, I can't fully express just how much I appreciate it but it's a lot for sure! Thanks!
Scott, thanks for the video, You are a Master at your Craft, Could you Please cover the song, Four walls of Raiford and the song am i losin , rock on, thanks, Cousin Figel
Yes Scott, we would love to see a lesson on this song. I hear Ed's neat little stuff all through it - the pinch harmonics at the beginning, the harmony at the end of the first solo, the hammer on in one of the verses -- all cool stuff we'd like to see if we got right! Thanks! And in return for what you do, if you would like to add a little preaching in your weekly schedule, check out my page -- just Bible preaching from a country boy in North Carolina!
Yeah that’s about all you can do with this one. I don’t know how to make it any simpler without coming over and placing your fingers in the right spots. If you have a true passion to learn, you will do whatever it takes without the need to be spoon fed. Let me know if you have any specific questions about any of it.
@@seraines No good deed goes unpunished Scott! Many moons ago I added a Driver head cover with a three wood head cover that I sold (driver head cover for free). The buyer gave me bad feed back because the free driver cover I gave him looked worn. Anyhow, amazing lessons, coming from a former guitar instructor now FT performer.
I have found the Holy Grail of Simple Man riffs. Thank you so much for sharing .
Thank you for watching!
Good stuff, Scott.
T'ank ya, t'ank ya, yup.
Glad you got my message on your website.
Love it. Love it all.
I love this song so much. Might be my favorite song ever out of any genre.
Thanks Scott, the little nuances that you teach make a big difference to the sound.
great tone and intonation their harmonies are wonderful, great playing

Watching these pulled out of the song makes me appreciate Skynyrd's fantastic musicality even more. Such tasty riffs and runs.
You’re absolutely an amazing teacher and your attention to every detail is awesome. Wish I could take some lessons from you brother. God Bless

Absolutely! Adding them to my list. Thanks 🙏🏼
Bad ass stuff , Sailor ❤️
Thanks so much once again Scott!
Thanks for sharing. You do a great job with these. The Skynyrd guitarists never get the credit they deserve for their great phrasing in these songs.
It’s cause they fit the song so well. You also don’t realize how huge their guitar sound was on some of these songs.
Beautiful guitar Scott

Thanks Scott. I'd love to learn how to play guitar. I talked to Rich about it on the RLC. Hopefully see you next spring.

Custom-made by Hughes Guitars local to asheville. It’s a monster!
Do you have fret markers on the top of the neck? BTW I subscribed 👍
Thanks for subscribing!
Yeah I didn’t realize I used the Hughes with the blank fingerboard until I was editing. 😂
