These videos are getting too damn long. Unfortunately for me, all of the juicy shit keeps happening and I love bringing myself pain. The NHL offseason is always a time for two things: Massive overpayments and flexing on your opponents with major free agent signings and trades (which will hopefully pan out in your favor). The 2022 NHL Offseason is no exception.
This year's batch of moves was quite interesting. There is little time to talk about them here. The video will hopefully explain everything in detail. Excruciatingly so.
Please save me from myself.

NHL Free Agency: The special time of year where we sit back and laugh at the Flyers.
I have no idea what are they are trying to do.
And the Oilers
Wow wow wow, are you saying people don't laugh at the flyers all year?
Of all times of year this is when Philly have the least news about them really
@@MazeDaGr8 the oilers had one of the better off seasons?
God Help Us All!
You forgot another part of the Flyers' offseason misery: their young high-end goalie prospect Fedotov being kidnapped and forced into military service before he could leave Russia as punishment for leaving the Russian army KHL team
Such a crazy story, isn’t he serving in the navy up in the artic now or some shit?
@@philtorrez4198 Mandatory training in a naval base in northern Russia and the rumor is he either gets one year of military service or has to sign a two year contract with his old KHL team
Makes me feel bad for most of the Russian players. Yes, some have showed their admiration to Putin, but who's not to say it's because they have to if they want to live or see their family live?
Oh no! A player committed a crime in another country!
He also didn't cover the Kaprizov situation
As an Ottawa resident. I grew up 5 minutes away from the stadium. I was basically in its shadow. I drive past it almost everyday. To get downtown is a 25 minute car ride and a 1 hour bus ride.
The team needed Lebreton Flats. With the new transcity train going RIGHT past it (when it isn’t breaking down or derailing). You can be there from the other side of downtown in MINUTES. And yes that sight is as depressing to pass in Jim Watson’s toy as it looks……

As a Flames fan, to say this off-season has been a train wreck of emotions so far would be an understatement
I'm still trying to recover, and the crazy part is we may not be done! Look at all the defense we are holding
I really feel for you and fellow flakes fans losing 1 star is painful enough but losing two I really couldn’t imagine
Good luck next year
Bruins Fan-
On the other hand, 9.5M for Tkachuk is also a risk for Florida, he's either a missing piece they need or he won't be able to produce at the same pace if he can't find chemistry with his linemates.
Could end up being a disastrous trade for both teams. So far the only winner I see is Tkachuk.
I mean, it's not that you're substantially worse, it's just that you kinda lost your identity losing Tkachuk and Gaudreau.
We may have lost a Johnny but we gained a Johnathon instead. It sucks hard but GMBT may have saved our window in the Tkachuk deal
Just saw the news. Absolutely terrible.
Wanted to come here and say Rest in Peace, Johnny Gaudreau 🕊️
That Panthers trade genuinely feels like they added Huberdeau by accident as if it was an NHL22 trade or something
Yikes
lol this aged like milk
Comcast Spectacor’s ownership has turned the Flyers into such a joke that the 76ers don’t want to share an arena with them anymore, after it was just renovated. That should say it all.
The team died with Ed. 2020 was their last shot.
Comcast ruins everything they touch. I say this as an angry Avs fan that they refuse to make a deal with AltitudeTV, our local broadcasters, saying that there isn't enough demand. Are you kidding me?! Half a million people were at the Cup parade!
Lmao when Tree subtly put 2BC's 'Dadonovvvvvv" during the knights breakdown 🤣😂
Hot take: tree's hockey videos are his best stuff.
Always have been🔫
Agreed.
I'd say it's his actual favorite sport, gridiron is the most popular, he likes baseball, but the Pirates sucks, he even likes basketball, but not the NBA, even golf, which is curious, you're 100% correct
He's said before Hockey is his favorite sport, so it's not unsurprising he puts 100% more effort into them
I’m more of a fan of his football vids, but his hockey vids are great too.
I have a theory as for why Johnny signed with the Jackets.
Johnny Football: Johnny Manziel was drafted by the Browns
Johnny Wrestling: Johnny Gargano is a Cleveland native.
Gaudreau wanted to keep the tradition of "Johnny Sport" having some tie to Ohio
I honestly like that theory. I wonder if it applies to basketball and/or baseball too 🤔
Think the Tkachuk trade has officially boomed. Raising the Stanley Cup does that. Congrats to Tkachuk and Florida!
Let’s get a 2BC x Urinating Tree collaboration. The “Dadanovvvvvvvvvvvv” is iconic.
And the best part is Dadonov is now with the Habs, which is where he was playing during the 2BC GM Mode where that famous clip comes from. So it's all come full circle, in a weird sort of way.
Melnyk was such a strange individual, I wouldn’t call him a bad human being among the likes or Ballard and he did save the Senators franchise back in the day, but as you said he had been holding the team back with his cheapness. Death is never something that should be reacted to with joy, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that the Sens are free now that he’s gone. It’s grim, but sadly sometimes truth is grimmer than we think.
Erik Gudbranson being anchored to a 4x4 in Columbus with an M-NMC is the perfect example of garbage can, not garbage cannot
ill take 2 to 3 years at 4 when we got johnny for pennies in cbj terms. big dmen will always have big demand late season, worst case we trade him in 2 yrs to some chump gm for nothing and they retain the final 2 years cap.
This is a really good example of a team doing something good enough that it completely overshadowed the stupidity that was the Gudbranson contract + not addressing a putrid goaltending unit.
It's been a long time coming for Ottawa to get out of dark times for so long. Fingers crossed Dorion can land a solid defenseman to strengthen the back end.
Columbus and Calgary: The tale of two NHL Cities.
Free Agency, the time of the year when we say: “everybody laugh at the Flyers!”
God Help Us All!
Sounds about right
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
im a philly fan and honestly, im considering identifying as a rangers fan for every offseason
Speaking as a Blue Jackets fan, I'm bummed to see Bjorkstrand go, but I can't understate how excited I am for the moves that were made.
Crazy excited for this season
Tree: "Calgary this is how you overhaul a core!"
A fucking rat: "You sure about that"
I like the Bjorkstrand and Burakovsky signings from Seattle.
I know UT didn't mention this in the video due to this detail relating to the NHL draft but I was excited when the Kraken recruited Shane Wright. If Tree finds this comment, I wonder what he'll say of this.
If the Kraken get league average goaltending this year, they’ll make some noise
@@tehbeernerd Lots of this, especially with how erratic Grubauer was and with Driegs out for injury. We lost a lot of our opening season on 5-hole shots that should have never gotten to the netting.
@@tehbeernerd they need a new coach. Dave haxtoll is a terrible head coach who hasn't won on any level.
@@JarradBruessel32 We have hak for another season or two, enough to get our core built up for a playoff attempt before he gets told to take a hike. Then we can get someone better, though he's perfectly usable for building a team (if not winning a lot).
@@cracklingvoice yeah you guys will get lots of high draft picks with him.
Spoiler alert: Paul Maurice and Matthew Tkachuk were the game changers the Panthers needed 🎉🎉🎉🏆🐈🐀
Panthers made a HUGE gamble with Tkachuck, and honestly I'm unsure if this is gonna work
I hope it does man. But Huberdeau was getting older.
As a habs fans I am happy with this trade because Florida gets worse this year and makes the Florida pick more valuable.
@@slipperynodd578 we shall see
@@slipperynodd578 Getting into the playoffs shouldn't be a problem with the guys they have. Huberdeau and Weegar were both invisible or detrimental to them in the playoffs this year, so if Tkatchuk can bring anything to the table, that draft pick might actually decrease in value.
@@romaliop I know but I don’t think you’re going to get as many points so if you lose in round 1 or 2 you have a better chance of being a few pay picks higher.
That Tkachuck trade was so out of nowhere and it happened in the middle of the night. I went to bed knowing that he wanted out of Calgary and woke up to the biggest trade we've seen in years.
As an Edmonton fan I was pretty happy to watch this video and not worry about anything. Then I remembered I'm a Vegas fan second. Unless we're talking Bruce Cassidy we're not talking about their off-season.
As a Jackets fan I might finally leave my hibernation hole.
You guys might actually be decent this year. The future looks bright, bud.
As a Wild fan, I have three things:
- The Kaprizov situation I think is moving from red to yellow because we haven’t heard anything new and I think people will get pissed in both the states and Russia if they did this to him
- I am okay with Guerin moves because he is working with limited cap space and trying to at least put out a competitive product.
- My message to Flyers fans: We tired to warn you about Fletcher.
We didn't want fletcher. The boys club hated Ron hextall so much they fired him and hire the anti Ron hextall
@@cameronearland5716 Pens fan here who is dealing with Ron Hextall as I type down this comment. Bet you would give an arm and a leg to bring him back huh?
@@adamquraishi1127 fam I just want direction. It's like ever since Ed snider died this organization doesn't know what to do. I just want stability
Sharks hired Mike Grier. He traded Burns to make cap room which is great. Then uses most of it on depth guys. And now hired David Quinn. The one guy I didn’t want as head coach. God help us
I love that you're hyped about my Jackets, Laine and Gaudreau is going to be so fun to watch.
That Gudbranson contract is shit, but he'll bring some stability to our bottom pair, which says a lot about how bad our bottom pair was last season. Gudbranson might be a bad NHL defenseman, but Bayreuther (the guy being replaced) makes Guddy look like fucking Lidstrom. Best case scenario, Gudbranson finds his role and redemption like Ceci did in PIT and EDM. Worst case scenario, he mentors our young defenders a bit and makes sure I never have to see Bayreuther again.
Yeah, it speaks volumes about just how garbage-tier Bayreuther is when Seattle took him in the expansion draft and then sent him right back. Some traffic cones spread out across the ice are an upgrade over him.
I'm content for the Coyotes to just sit back, tank like hell, and then start hunting after the arena in Tempe is built. Cooley and Keller on the same line should be terrifying.
At the Tortorella-DeAngelo bit, I laugh
R.I.P Johnny Hockey 🕊🕊🕊
As a Sharks fan this offseason has been so confusing that I don't even know what to think anymore
6:58 Missed opportunity for a pun.
"Relatively used yet reputable Ondrej Palat. You had to pay...P-a lot... to get him"
Ba Dum Tss 🥁
Free agency is interesting hope the red wings are a 500 team this year.
LGRW
That Tkachuk trade holy shit! Looking forward to Part 2
Once again, back asking for a Milwaukee brewers or Utah jazz legacy of failure. I love the vids Mr. Tree
look i feel bad for the Jazz back in the 90s Karl Malone and John Stockton were incredible and they would have won at least 1 Ring but sadly for them that was MJ era
@@kurtpunchesthings2411 they had so many chances before and after mj though too that they should've won a championship at some point
My poor Jazz. Finally about given up on my hometown team.
@@fuzzyfishnutz4838 I'm truly sorry sir. You deserve more
@@sportsnstuff5557 thanks brother. Being from Salt Lake, I’ve always had other teams I’ve cheered for in different leagues. Most of those have had plenty of success over the years (Steelers, Red Wings, etc.) Even liked the Bulls in the 80s and early 90s-but in high school I desperately wanted to see my home town Jazz take down Jordan and co. I’m pretty apathetic to the Jazz after seeing this latest iteration go far and fail.
Mostly a college football fan. Love my Utes and the success they’ve had, but college athletics are becoming a greedy shit show.
Anyways, thanks for kind regards my friend
And now for everyone’s favorite pastime. Everyone laugh at the flyers🤣🤣🤣🤣
Me: tries to sleep early
UTree: uploads video
Me: screw it, let's see his two cents on my hurricanes (please come to our game!)
Good idea dropping this now, I don’t think anything’s gonna top the Panthers/Flames trade
How is it, as an Oilers fan, I'm feeling... optimistic about my team's moves this offseason?
I have the same feeling
Because that's how Ken Holland gets ya. Gives you an elite cup team and will keep that same team for the next ten years. No matter the cost
With Kaner back and Campbell in net, I don’t blame you
As a canucks fan
Same
I really like what the Kings and Senators are doing
Flyers fans when torts is their new coach D:
Flyers fans when they realize their post game interviews will be lit :D
Johnny Hockey never wanted to come to NJ, so he chose Columbus. That may sting a bit, but at least Palat, Vanecek, Haula, and Marino help ease it.
He was still close to signing here until Jarmo came knocking
Trying to get into hockey like how Chiseled Adonis did so I appreciate videos like this, big ups tree 👍🏿
With the Blues and Leddy, you have to isolate his stint in STL. He had a rough go in DET, but after coming to STL at the deadline, his play was phenomenal and the team immediately got hot. He was also really solid in the playoffs, even against the juggernaut Avs. Considering he signed for over $1mil less AAV than his previous deal, I think that resigning was a huge W
RIP Johnny Hockey 💔
Tree I’ll say it again, you are the only reason I keep with hockey from the videos and I’m not a hockey fan thank you
Depressed Flyers fan here, man the only thing that can bring happiness is if they fire Fletcher and Comcast sells the team.
Unfortunately I doubt either of those things will happen 😞
Even once Fletcher is gone, knowing this team they will hire someone that is 100x WORSE than him. Consider it the circle of life. One shit GM is gone, another one comes in.
@@adamquraishi1127 I think they will end up hiring Daniel Brière. I’m pretty sure their pretty much ready to give him the job. Apparently Fletcher will move up forget where but he’s suppose to take someone’s else’s spot, so that’s why Daniel Brière has been a lot more involved
@@phillynation2906 if you say move up, you mean like president of the team or something???
@@adamquraishi1127 I think so, forgot directly what position
I've been subscribed since 40k. So glad to see Tree get the recognition he deserves.
The one thing you forgot to mention about the Wild: the Kirill Kaprizov situation. Russia could detain him and force him into military service like they did with Ivan Fedotov.
Part of me feels like he'll try to defect from the country Klima or Stastny-style.
@@UrinatingTree He’s back in the USA so huge relief for all of Minnesota.
"OK Mr Dubas, you need to get some players with 'That Dawg' in them"
"Get more Soo Greyhound players, got it"
Should’ve talked a little more about the Kings. We made a big move to get Fiala and we’re looking to build on the success of last season. If we stay healthy we could make some noise. Probably not a deep run but definitely could see us winning a series, or maybe even two
As a Wild fan I liked the Fiala trade. I was hoping for something more(like a center), but Faber has a lot of upside and is a right shot
can you do a video about the jays red sox 28-5 game?? I need that in my life.
Watching the Sox defense (all phases) these past couple of weeks is having me question how blind individuals aren't drafted to play baseball
That first MacKinnon goal was the best and most exciting thing I have ever seen. The stadium went absolutely nuts. It was a surreal experience. And we wasted that game. It was brutal. But then in game 6 the Darren helm goal with five second left was moneyyyyyy! Let’s go av-a-lanche
The Flyers adding Deslauriers and Ristolainen these past two seasons.
Because if there’s anything they needed it’s key contributors to the 2013-15 tanking Sabres
Devils dodged a bullet with Jonny Hockey not signing there
R.i.p. johnny hockey
The good news: Tkachuk has hit the ground running here, and has fit in almost seamlessly.
The Bad News: It turns out hiring the guy with the most recorded losses as your head coach wasn’t a good idea! Who knew?
Update, they got extremely lucky to be bailed out by Pittsburgh losing to Chicago. Paul M is super lucky he got bailed out by talent. They used that opportunity to embarrass the Bruins and Leafs, and are currently in a series vs Carolina.
@@slipperynodd578 Ain't luck, they were playing playoff hockey all year to keep practicing for the big dance, and are now reaping the rewards. That's how they were able to overcome the 8 ton gorilla that is Boston, and then smash through Toronto and Raleigh like no one's business.
(the ungodly goalie play helps though)
This aged like milk lol

Bulk and Skull theme. I LOVE IT!!!
Thanks for this. I have espn+ so i’m going to try and get into hockey this season!
Enjoy
Columbus isn't ready yet. Need the back end to improve 1st. Much like when NYR signed Breadman I think they miss the playoffs year one, year two they may make the playoff or barely miss, but its year 3 where things should all come together.
Their defense is fucking terrible, they had to trade their best two-way forward (Bjorkstrand) for peanuts, and goaltending is a question mark. They’re a glass cannon of a team.
@@tehbeernerd I know there defense sucks. thats why i said they need to fix their back end 1st
i agree with that... theres a lot of young talent, its probably not coming together this year. i expect them to be around 85-90 points. but come 2023 the heat will be on
@@tehbeernerd its less that they're bad and more insanely young. boqvist, jiricek, mateychuk, ceulemans, bean and peeke are all pretty young and have potential. the jackets look primed for a 2025 or 2026 cup run
John Tortorella is like the NHL's George Karl. It's at the point that it's completely mind boggling that he has a job.
As an LA Kings fan, I have my shades on 24/7 because the future looks brighter than the sun on a clear day. 😎
Praise be to our lord and savior Rob Blake GKG!
I got a preroll ad on this video for Liv Golf.
I don’t watch hockey, but your videos on it are ALWAYS intriguing
What’s that theme that plays for the devils and islanders section played between 6:44 and 7:58 because that theme is a banger.
I'm a fan of Buffalo's moves. No huge splashes to regret in a couple years. And the biggest needs were a right-shot D and in net and they addressed those. Bank on the natural development of Buffalo's good young core led by Tuch!
Your use of Red Alert Music is quite literally music to my ears. I always love watching to see what classic music you pull, and today, I was so satisfied.
I don't know the first thing about hockey, but I'll watch any video Tree posts
Thanks for the wildly subpar take on the Wings. Yzerman crushed FA, Copp to the wing in 3yrs when he’s 30 and Kasper is ready. Hagg and Pysyk also brought in.
Speaking of sportsball...
Are we keeping the “I’m calling both games” intro? I can’t live without it this year
It’s a sports ball tradition. It would be foolish to remove the iconic line
Never thought I'd see the day a Blue Jackets photo made the Sportsball thumbnail.
This year is looking reeeeall good for Columbus
I love Trocheck’s fit on a line with 🍞
Utree has made me a casual hockey fan.
4:08 - He's just a really big AC/DC fan, Columbus was the only other team that used one of their songs ;)
The Red Wings are getting interesting after those signings. They had a solid start last season and then just absolutely shit the bed the rest of the year. But with Dekesyer’s long awaited departure and staal gone the defense should be improved. Got some solid depth up front, With a full season of a healthy Vrana and the newly acquired guys and maybe other guys like zadina and Hronek can finally take that next step things are getting interesting especially with the young guys coming up besides Raymond and seider. They should be well improved next season.
This week in Calgary would be just as accurate a title. Honorable mention to Carolina.
As a Canucks fan, it's amazing to not have UrinatingTree roast our team and instead compliment them. Yes, the answer concerning Miller and Garland's contracts is up in the air, but thank god we have a competent head office now.
Good vid as always, just one thing coming from a Blues fan. Yes, Leddy wasn't good last season... in Detroit that is. Since coming to St. Louis he was GREAT! Easily our best d-man with Faulk. I'm happy we kept him around. If we can just somehow sell Scandella for a bag of pucks...
Tree’s nhl videos come far and between but they’re always bangers
I actually used SeatGeek on a soccer game because I remember you talking about them in a video; I know it’s sponsored, but I’m thankful you talk about them anyway
i liked the use of the bulk and skull theme for the jets
Can't wait to see Johnny Hockey and Patrick Laine play together. Something exciting and not terrible happened in Ohio? Huh.

I have no idea what the hell Dubas was doing, all I know is if the Leafs don’t make it over the hump next year he’s gone, I’d rather the Leafs be tanking at this point, it’s better than constantly coming short.
This year's free agency of the NHL offseason was the most craziest year ever yet
So who all enjoyed The Greatest Game of baseball played by the Redsox this past weekend?
Yankees Fan here you bet your ass i did :)

What about the Kaprizov situation with the Wild? When a Commissioner of a sport has to give updates on a player's situation, you know you have a problem on your hands.
Your presentation for THE trade was perfect.
The Flyers.... Iced Yinzer.... 🤣

As soon as you delved into Fletcher's litany of idiocy, I felt extremely sorry for one of their draft picks, Alex Bump. One of the absolute greatest prospects to come out of Minnesota this year, he scored FIVE GOALS in a 6-0 walloping against Cretin-Derham Hall, who was SECOND in the state. Prior Lake was 21st. They weren't even supposed to make it to the X (a school first)!
Poor guy is going to suffer in Philly. Hopefully, he's traded elsewhere at some point, but let's be real: Fletch is gonna drive his value way, way down before he is, just like with Giroux.
Looking at his stats I get why you would say that about Leddy but any Blues fan would tell you once he arrived, he was very solid for us and ended up being a good trade, especially after our D imploded by injuries.
