Timberliner trains are great, very comfortable. However, as a Philadelphian with an affection for coaster history, it makes me happy that Holiday World decided to stick with the PTC trains. I love that Voyage, Phoenix, and Beast all run PTCs.
One of the most important things about the voyage’s layout is the psychological aspect the hill it’s set on has on the riders. Heading up a slight hill quickly signals to riders that the coaster is going to be a lot shorter than it actually is, because the incline is barely noticeable from onride. By the time you get to the top of the hill the coaster has subconsciously convinced riders that the coaster is almost over, which makes the return all the more exciting when it starts not only keeping that speed but gaining speed on the way down. It also includes the ever satisfying millennium force school of ride finales where it finishes above the ride entrance after being separate from the park for so long, making the finale both a social and narrative one.
I used to be bummed that Holiday World was the only Themed Parks I’ve visited, but the older I’ve gotten I’ve realized I’ve got it made. Holiday World truly is the best park to go to, time and time again! So glad to be nearby!
This video is incredible. You make 17:00 videos seem like full-length part, but without the boring stuff. Holiwoodnights is defenetly a bucket list experience for me, I cannot imagine how much fun it is to hang out with hundreds of enthusiasts in a "ungodly" coaster after dark!
I ... have been wanting ... to ride this coaster since I first heard about it in 2018!!! I was so excited to be able to FINALLY take a trip last month (Aug, 2024) to Holiday World and, (side note) may I just say: WHAT a beautiful, fun, HUUUGE park this is!!! It is impeccably kept with beautiful, lush flowers and greenery everywhere. All the buildings, signs, rides, etc. seemingly brand new and freshly painted. And there was not a speck of garbage anywhere on the ground. (As a mom, this kind of stuff catches my eye. lol!) Free drinks and sunscreen alone make it worth the trip and the staff? ...Wow!! (Six Flags people, listen up and take note!) It's been too long since I've seen service like this in a theme park! Whether they worked in the restaurants, in the shops, at the front gate, as ride ops or as life guards - they were ALL super friendly and helpful. They SMILED at us (what?!?!) WITH EYE CONTACT. (Whoa!) When one shop didn't have the t-shirt we wanted in our size, the gal without hesitation offered to (and did) call another shop in the park to see if they had it simply to save us time and energy looking for it. Folks, this is what it looks like when people LIKE and VALUE their jobs, and it shows! It made for SUCH a pleasant two days! This time around my husband (who's NOT a coaster lover) and I took our 7 year old grandson - but I am, if the good Lord's willing, DEFINATELY going back next year with all my coaster-lovin', 20-something nieces and nephews! GOOD GRAVY was pure FUN! My grandson's first steel coaster and he liked it! THUNDERBIRD WAS GRRRREAT!! It definitely pulled more Gs than our home park's wing coaster, X-Flight. (Great America, Gurnee, IL) THUNDERBIRD's launch, although not nearly as strong as MAXX FORCE's, was still powerful - yet I was able to marathon it 6 times in a row. (I would have stayed there longer but with my hubby and grandson patiently waiting for me down in the plaza, I didn't want to be selfish.😂) RAVEN was running roughly. According to staff, its turn for re-tracking is next year. LEGEND, on the other hand, was AWESOME ... weaving in and around the waterslides... GENIUS! It was so cool waiting in line for the slides, too, as it ROARED past us. My favorite woodie at home, VIPER, is a little smoother but LEGEND [seemed to] have SO many more, multiple headchopper moments. I LOVED it! But the VOYAGE?!?! HOLY MACKERAL, BATMAN!! It was WAY more agressive than I expected it to be and it took me off-guard!! Somehow, the RUclips POVs, (watched from the comfort of my lazyboy recliner,) made it seem tamer than it actually is...😅 Perhaps the RMCs I've ridden (GOLIATH, OUTLAW RUN) have me spoiled with their butter smooth rides... Maybe I had just gotten too used to/bored of our giant woodie, AMERICAN EAGLE, after years of riding that ... I was absolutely BLLLLOOOOWN away by how SUPER intense VOYAGE was. I loooooooved it, don't get me wrong; but WHEW!😢😅 The pacing was incredible - just one thing after another; having no idea where I was - with absolutely NO time to catch my breath. I actually looked forward to the midcourse brakes so I could take a deep breath before tackling the INSANE second half I knew was coming ... But they were turned OFF!! (What the?!) On a Monday morning for the GP?! 😳😳😳 (Way to go,HOLIDAY WORLD!!😃) However, instead of feeling EXCITED to WHIP into that triple-down tunnel - I was... (🤔 what are the words I'm looking for here?...) Cautiously nervous? (n❤oooo... ) Surprised? (Well, absolutely! (ha!) but n❤oooo...) Freaked out beyond all measure...? YES!!! Yes. That's it. My arms and legs were like jello and without a roller coaser buddy for moral support, one ride a day was the best I could do. I bumbled my way down the exit ramp where my grandson met me with excitement, "Ommie! We waved at you!! Did you see us!!?" (😂🤣 Puh, no!!! ) But I hugged him tightly and just said, "Well the strong wind made my eyes water, honey - but, yes, I saw all 6 of you!") MAN!!! WHAT a ride! One thing I noticed that I've never felt before on a coaster was a "bucking" sensation. Anyone here ever feel that? I was in a the middle row (time constraints made me not wait for the front or back cars like I normally do) and after the first 2 drops it felt like I was on a horse. It was as if the first 3 cars of the train wanted to go faster than the the last 3 would let them. Has anyone felt that before or can you explain the phenomenon? Anyway - I hope y'all can get out there, to the middle of nowhere, in beautiful southern Indiana, to expirience this INCREDIBLE woodie - not to mention all the other rides and waterslides (MAMMOTH - Whoo hoo!) found at this hidden gem of a park!❤❤❤ I WILL be on VOYAGE again, God willing, very soon!
i got to ride trimless voyage in the nighttime at the friday night live event and oh my god it was incredible. you feel like you accomplished something every single time you ride it
I live not far from this park and visit once a month. For the opening years, it always ran without the midcourse brakes, they were just there to allow it to run three trains. Between those original seven-car trains, no midcourse brakes, and that new track, it was an even wilder and crazier ride. It's still wild at night and still has that out-of-control feel, but I miss the longer trains.
I really love both Holiday World and The Voyage. Holiday World is one of the few parks I’ve been to that go out of their way to make the guest experience as good as possible. Voyage is my favorite coaster I’ve ever ridden.
I think it was a good thing they kept the PTC trains. Timberliners are terrible on larger layouts, they don’t really maintain the track as promised and get very rattly quickly.
I enjoy Gravity Groups newer rides, but the trio of early coasters they built in the US that still run PTC trains (Voyage, Boardwalk Bullet, and Ravine Flyer II) are absolutely some of the BEST wooden coasters on earth - thanks in no small part to the parks that take such great care of them.
My brother used to be on the voyage maintenance team. He is still with Holiday World. I worked there when i was 14 as a cleaner, but ive seen some Sheet (literally) and couldnt do it anymore.
Great video bro. But you lacked one piece of current information. As of August 2024, the two nights of the privately ticketed HoliWood Nights is no longer the only time you can ride the Voyage at night with the midcourse block brakes turned off. For the last three fridays in August 2024, Holiday World has debuted a new time to visit from 5pm - 10pm called Friday Night Live. This event started when the park had closed for daily operation and was closed Monday through Friday. It provides more night time rides on their coasters, since during the regular operating hours there is not many if any hours available to ride their coasters in the dark. But also during these three Friday night events, they turned off the Voyage's mid-course brakes for two hours (8 - 10pm) so guests could also enjoy the ensuing mayhem that other guests have experienced during HoliWood Nights.
I've been a bit slow getting this video out. They announced the days well after I'd finished and recorded the script, and then they'd happened by the time I'd edited the video together. The more days for trimless Voyage the better honestly!
@@coasterbot So I am curious...Is the night ride on the Voyage in the complete dark with the mid-course brakes off at insane speeds...is that the most INTENSE coaster experience you have ever had??
@@johnd551 they only did this for national rollercoaster day on August 16th. I was there the Friday AFTER this and rode it at 9:45 pm and the mid break was on…. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Outlier95 Well, I wasn't there, but the park advertised the three Fridays in August they were only open from 5pm - 10pm and they promoted a trim-brakeless ride in the dark on the Voyagefrom 8pm - 10pm.
