Thank you Jufes for your honest reviews as always.
Yes I agree with you, Jufest is a hard core by reviewing stuff, this is why I like his channel, some times it hurts to listen, but it is truth and you can’t even debate, he got a solid facts
15:44 ~ there is a slight understanding issue
Layout of memory is 0 1(X), 2, 3 (X)
You are on 1 & 3 ~ which makes Dimm 1 closer to the CPU.
The reason the fan is positioned how it is (could be smaller if ASUS planed to center it),
Is because fans usually generate most of the air on the sides of their frame, before up to blade design it vortex'es to the center (distance question)
Soo the way it is atm, means it hits perfectly both memory & Nvme^2 slots while having nothing at the center.
This includes as a side issue that sides will capture airflow and it definitely wont redirect to the center.
Thank you for the video~
Yikes
@@kramnull8962 i talk about ACPI layout, and HWInfo does capture it.
Re'read my message what i'm talking about & check the timestamp to understand my HWInfo pointing.
APEX Encore uses dimm slot 1 and 3 , those are the real lables.
It doesn't matter how its build phyiscally. Bios layout still is 0 to 3, in this case 1 & 3.
This layout differs by Boardpartner
He mixed the dimms location up, furthest with closest - hence correction.
There is no other intention.
@@colemanducharme4453 3 things to clear up,
Digital Art is a thing and handdrawing exists. No, not everything is anime related just because its in that artstyle.
Lookup "korean digital art, or chinese digital art" you will find similarities.
The fan is big, the fan is tested.
Its operation is ok and video shows this.
Only issue was that Framchasers mistook the dimm layout and made an opinion on something due to a wrong conclussion.
It can happen. Reason of comment is that and that only.
For the fan effectiveness, only remain ASUS engineers know.
Nothing is done "unfortunate" but with reason.
Consumer doesnt know air simulation data, and fact is that in such close distance, air leaks to the side of the fan housing - before it either stays outside or centers due to Vortex effect.
No wrong information written here, and no variable of discussion.
Sorry dude.

The Z790 Apex Encro gone be my fourth Apex motherboard next week. The Apex motherboards have never let me down.
I'm too poor to spend 1500 euros on a motherboard and cpu... They're crazy about the direction prices are going.
Don’t need to spend that much.
You shouldn't spend more than 300 euros for a motherboard.
@@swizzler8053 True....
This is for enthusiasts lol. People who either love to tinker or just want the fastest. You get like 98% of the way simply by getting your dick and balls combo at half the price. 14900k, mid range MSI board and A die kit. Fuck bro you don't even need the 14900k. The 14700k or 14600k is fine, but it's peoples obsession with getting like 5% more frames that doubles, triples, quadruples the cost.
It's just inflation compensation. Also, you get what you pay for with the apex. Prices on everything have gone up pretty much. I picked up a new Apex encore, but after finding out personally that it doesn't help any more with getting better overclocks I wish I didn't buy it and just used my old z790 apex. Bought a 14900k too and wish I waited for a 14900ks. My 13900ks had a better memory controller. Having said that the Apex encore overclocks the cpu better than my old Apex and runs the system agent at lower voltages without needing to hardly increase it for compensating for the cpu overclock. I'm planning on selling my 13900ks and getting a 14900ks when they hopefully come out in January or before then.
i dont think the apex encore being in stock means that they made more. A lot of people just arent excited by the intel 14th gen and most people sticking with their z790 apex. 13th gen z790 apex was a bigger deal because it was a nice jump in performance over 12th gen and was the first revision of a ddr5 motherboard. it was also white and the only white asus z790 board. a lot of people i see went with the apex just for the white board and put them in normal gaming machines and just enable xmp and dont even care to tune their ddr5.
for some reason my ocd likes not having a gen 5 nvme slot on the board because i dont want my gpu going down to x8 and I like using the first slot for my nvme. But maybe thats stupid and the other slots are just as fast and can just not use the gen 5 slot. idk, i think weird.
I also think apex boards have always been pretty bare bones. The very first apex had no backplate, tiny chipset heatsink, almost no rgb and its always a bit cheaper than formula and extreme boards and a bit more than hero. has step down lan port, step down audio, its always been that way
@@kramnull8962 so I'm not crazy in the fact that I like my z790 white apex not having a gen 5 m.2 slot for it's primary slot? Might sound funny but because the boards are very close in performance it was the reason that just pushed me to keeping my z790 apex, I don't wanna worry about it haha
I would much rather have a good gen 4 drive in my primary m.2 slot and my 4090 at x16 than a gen 5 drive and my GPU x8 or a gen 4 drive in chipset m.2 slot and GPU in x16. Gen 4 in slot one and GPU x16 sounds better to me
I would rather sacrifice some ssd speed than GPU performance, even if it's only a couple percent, stupid GPU was $2k. I want all $2k worth of performance haha
And to me the apex has always been about sacrificing flair for performance, and I'm ok with paying a bit of a premium over a hero type board for the performance as long as it's not more than a formula or extreme
We also have to take into account the features for ln2 use which is what allot of the features it has are for, used to use the slow mode switch allot for ln2 and also appreciate the lack of covers for easy insulation and dedicated voltage headers
Hey, sorry if I got this wrong, but in 8:25 you're talking about the timings that passed 8200mt/s, they were 38-48-48-130. Next clip 8:45, you're talking about how you put the same timings to the apex board, but I see timings on 38-48-48-48, so a tRAS of 48 instead of 130. Is this correct and is it crucial for the test?
I've come back to this video to give praise for informing people about the m.2 and lane changes. There's nobody else informing of this that I've seen
the ram fans cool, im assuming they lowered the gpu slot down and got rid of the m.2 expansion card for it, because cant really put the expansion card slot under the gpu fans, but 12degrees is pretty cool
Frame Chasers, what program do you test RAM in this video?
Oh yea sooo many. I ordered my encore from amazon on Feb 17th, was manufactured on 09=23 yes 09-23 shipped from Tx.
great review jufes will have to pick up the encore as the white apex is non-existent in the uk, as well as the tachyon. you truly are the goat.

I'm loving your suggestions. I picked up an Open Box Apex Encore and 2x24GB Teamgroup 7200 T-create expert sticks as you suggested. $585 for the board and $199 for the RAM. The sticks with this motherboard are already stable at 8200 with my 13900k. I can boot 8400 but haven't had time to screw around with that yet. I was previously running an Asus DDR4 board w/ b-die at 4300 for over a year and it was time to get some new toys!
On ArchLinux based distro CachyOS 8200MHz 72 hours no error max temp 50 degree Celsius.
Which motherboard do you recommend that works perfectly and cheaper than an APEX Encore (with 14900k or 7950x3D)
12:52 Could you attach a louver to it to tweak the air flow. Wouldn't need to be tall off the fan, 1/8 or 1/4 of a inch of molded plastic. When I've done it in the past I used plastic soda bottles, & if you have silicon kitchen oven gloves work great, can use steam or a heat gun as a heat source to mold the fin. I used it to redirect airflow to the stuff around CPUs when they're water cooled since there is no "splash" air from the CPU cooler. The gloves work great when bending hard plastic or glass tubing with a heat gun or a blow touch (for the glass tubing) for custom loops. Nothing looks better than glass tubing.
and could funnel air from the top of the fan down towards the board & ram
or just cut the bracket taking out a slice, shorten it & epoxy it back together. ... and add a fin(s) if you think it is needed, easy to make, & just remove or adjust, hell it is your PC.
Thanks Jufes, I actually hoped on the encore as soon as it came out because I couldn't get the original apex when I needed it. Confirmed 8000 CL36 manual tuning, lots of FAFO

Some people need more RAM than what two dimms can offer

Hello I was wondering if the use of gen 5 ssd has shown to reduce fps in current games. Seems like you cut the pcie lanes in half on every motherboard.
Only by 2-3fps on most games and 15fps on metro exodus for some reason only that game loses 15fps
Hey can you let me know the ram heatsink name at 10:38 the silver with rgb?
Seems like they wanted to cover RAM as well as the NVME DIMM modules with that fan.
Seeing this test is great, but in the other hands, if we stick with maybe 8000 ram or 7200, will that be absolutely stable? If I’m not willing to push ram into top edges?
Thanks to the supports enabling hours of testing that I can watch highligts for free ☝🍿
Why on earth would you rather be forced to use an entire x16 slot for a gen 5 ssd, than have a dedicated slot on the mothetboard? And z890 motherboards are going to have a seperate 16+4 gen 5 lanes...so why exactly would you ever need that card in the future?
Great review! I’ve been trying to run gskill 7200 on a gigabyte z790 gaming x ax, it has probably crashed over a thousand times now, even on 4800, when I use only one stick MW3 is more stable., Hopefully this board will correct that. Couldn’t find a white apex
So if I use gen 4 m.2 will my gpu be at x16?
I need your services when the “Ks” comes out sir
At least this is available, was too lazy to track stock for 2 dim boards before.
Looking at the QVL list it seems the only ones running 8000mhz xmp are those with a 13900ks/14900k/14900ks wirh G.skill kits, even less are running teamgroups XTREEM 8000-8200mhz kits.
In my 13900k I can only run 7600mhz cl36 xmp timings or tweaked 7600 cl34. For the life of me ai cannot run 7800-8000mhz. I know for a fact that it will run 8000-8800mhz on a hand picked 14900k/kf with 8400mhz as a daily driver on g.skill kits. Got my board from someone on HWBOT. Only ones I have seen in 13th Gen run my kit on an apex encore in xmp 8000mhz is 13900ks owners…
So which is your favorite out of the Asus z790 Apex or z790 Apex encore. Can Asus z790 dark hero be used for content creating/working station and can it run memory up to 8200 as well
The Ecore is $50 cheaper, has minor improvements over the original, and is in stock. Want a fan of the white either. And no these 4 dimm slot daisy chain refresh boards that all of the vendors (except msi last I checked) are claiming 8000-8233 etc on the qvl lists are fucking bs. They way they can claim this is ba but they sit there essentially and swap out cpus until they have a top 5 top 1% imc and idk get it to post and claim 8000+ go on asus gigabyte etc and look at all these boards they're claiming this for. Some shit 250 dollar board with a garbage trace layout and just overall pcb have the same qvl as apex or a tachyon?? Yeah right. Msi was the only one not claiming this I think they're qvl was up to 7600-7800 idk why I mean the othes know it's bs and just another way of marketing these boards I mean the godlike does have shit memory overclocking especially compared to any 2 dimm board so for whatever reason there's was more realistic than asus and gigabytes qvl which were just straight up not true. A lot of people are who don't know enough especially with high end kits of hynix adie and 24 bit mdie 8000 being at the most $200-250 these days will get this slap in into whatever mb they bought and at best it will post but be riddled with errors and so unstable their os will get destroyed and require a clean install and most won't know enough to run an actual stress test(another person say "i ran memtest86 and it was stable"and I'll jump off a bridge) let alone if they had a mb and imc that COULD they would also need to thinking with timings and voltages for some hours that NO xmp profile would ever even bother having these set to
The dark is not hitting anywhere near that man. you could get away with 7200 xmp probably tho with a decent memory controller
6:10 plus if you go through the hassle of adding a Arc into a Intel cpu machine for content creation wouldn’t you want the deep link anyways?
I have the z790 encore with 14900k 4090lc and Corsair titanium 8000 everything works just fine with XMP 1 I love the encore Mobo I tried with the dark hero I couldn’t get anything over 7200
i want to buy Z790 Apex + 14900k + 8000mhz DDR5 Guaranteed BIN COMBO do you ship to sweden?
As long as you accept the risk of lost shipment I don’t have a problem shipping there
so should i use the fan kit? i was twonderin if i should use it thanks
Fuck. XMPer here that just ordered apex, 14900k and 8000 mhz memory. Wish me luck.
I guess I’m the biggest silicon lottery winner, my z790 master x and my delided 14900kf boot up 8200mhz XMP first try no problem whatsoever!
Following his build guide, does anyone have a link or know which mono block works for this motherboard
In all honesty these premium mobos need to have far more innovative features, the ram maybe should be above the CPU like the premium EVGA mobos to allow front case fans to move air across the dimm sticks far easier or even a vented riser for the ram, this will continue to become an issue the more heat we have to dissipate from faster and faster ram kits.
on evga board, the cpu socket is rotated by 90 degrees to shorten ram traces, thus improving signal integrity, have nothing to do with airflow or case compatibility.
One day im going to dive into over clocking and tuning, and I have somewhat of the right set up to do it, but I got 7800xmp on my dark kingpin and 13900ks. Might just leave it alone. lol
does ram break easy?
Curious why using no name brand 7200 DDR5 memory instead of Hynix A die from G.Skill Trident Z5 ???
Hey, what is this ram fan thing??? (not the built-in thing)
Long shot question for you. Today I’m new to this motherboard.. I think by far you could be working for Asus With the knowledge that you carry on this motherboard. I’m running the 14900K and some g.skill 7200 👍🏻 with XMP 1. The bios memory test freezes at random times. I’ve tried three times with three different times of freezing. What M.2 slot should I use on the Apex Encore for a simple Gen 4 m.2 drive? Is there a way to avoid the PCI lane sharing and still use a mobo slot?
@user-ub9rv3sm3y Thank you for the reply! Just to clarify, you end up ignoring the primary M2 slot #1 (the gen 5 slot) entirely?
That is my conclusion as well. The only unfortunate thing is I believe the first slot has the most robust heatsink. But Gen 4 drives really shouldn't be getting that hot anyway.

why does the number of DIMM's matter? (2 vs 4)
That fan would supercharge the ram with hot air from the gpu's blow through design.
That's why I put a Bykski waterblock on my RAM 🙂
I find the cable bar in the 5000D Airflow with 3 side fans blowing into it redirects plenty of air onto the RAM. At 8000 it never breaks 60C. TBF, there are three fans in front, top, and one in the rear to help get air in and out creating positive airflow and keeping everything flush with ambient air.
@@jwhitaker81 My Asus TUF OC 4090 blows air directly over the RAM so I originally thought of making a cardboard duct to pick up air from the front fans but decided that a waterblock looked better and keeps the RAM well below 50C.
