Crazy how Mean Streets just turned 50 a few days ago and he’s still making movies

It must be so awesome to have Martin freaking Scorcese say “That’s interesting. I never really thought of that” to you

The end got me emotional. Martin is really a genius and one of the best storytellers film has ever had! Love this man! May he live another 20+years and make as many more masterpieces as he wants x

Me, too! I was thinking that if I were in Jake's position, saying the exact same words, I wouldn't be able to hide the tears. It's an incredible gift to us that not only is Scorsese still around but is still making truly vital cinema. It's kind of crazy, actually.

Yeah, asking that question about the concept of sin in Martin’s films was brilliant given Martin grew up in a Catholic Italian-American family where the teachings of Catholic faith was very prevalent and an influence on a lot of his films even though a lot aren’t religious in concept or subject matter.
I was baptised Catholic myself but no longer practice but I do find the themes of Catholic sin and redemption (or lack of) in Scorsese’s films fascinating.

This was one of my favorite recent Scorsese interviews and it's only 5 minutes long! Excellent questions that I think tie very directly into subjects Scorsese has been working with his entire career. The words of gratitude at the end got me emotional 🥺
