John Sitton is a true gentleman. I brought a signed copy of his book. It arrived unsigned so I sent him a twitter DM. He apologised a number of times he sent a 2nd copy signed and a Christmas card from him to me and my family! I will always have time for John Sitton

Love it. I live in USA and my mate sent me a signed copy of his book for my 50th. "To Stewart, always had a soft spot for Rangers, glad you love my half-time Orient rants - they deserved it - Sitts". Prized Possession

Superb interview. I stumbled across this by accident and immediately got hooked. Watched all 3 episodes (3 hours) on the spin. He is such a great listen and made all the memories come flooding back of the game as it was in the 70s/80s. As a CFC fan - and the same age as Sitts - I went all over the country supporting the team back when we were shit and in Div 2. The season we went down from Div 1 with a record low points ('78-'79), we played Forest away in a midweek match and got stuffed 6-0. Nightmare performance - and especially by the 'keeper Borota. I distinctly remember that the only player we had that night who cared a toss and was giving 100% was John Sitton. I was sorry when he was shown the door.
I'll be buying the new autobiog' (Pt 2) when it comes out.

What on earth has John got to be sorry about (regarding the team talk). He was straight to the point, articulate, even, no beating about the bush and telling a few players a few home truths. I still remember John Sitton being the only Chelsea player who came away from a heavy 6-0 defeat at Forest in 1979 with any credit after we had just capitulated. A proper football fella and I bet there aint many in the game who have a bad word to say about him.

@@fullcorefootball2459 No definitely not mate ... LOL. My first season going to Chelsea 78/79, he was just getting into the first team, was seen as a replacement for Micky Droy and, to be honest, I thought he was a much better player than Mickey. The Forest game I mentioned ... Chelsea were a fuckin shambles that night at the City ground , John being the only player who came away from there who could hold his head up. We were relegated a few weeks later with, at the time, the lowest ever points total, over 42 games in a top flight season. We did have some half decent players at the time though ... John being one, Petar Borota (a very underrated keeper) Gary Locke, John Bumstead, Colin Pates, Gary Chivers ... foundations for a very, very good side in anyone's book. He comes across as an honest fella, says good things about Chelsea FC, how he has fond memories of his time there. As a local fan who was going every week then and now, is what is nice to hear / read about your club. Great upload by the way and a nice jog down memory lane

I vaguely remember him at Chelsea, he was pretty much a young squad player, and didn’t make many appearances. I actually thought he was a local boy to Chelsea, not an Arsenal supporting East Ender! He coincided with a period when Chelsea were a shambles without a pot to p iss in as he correctly stated. Not his fault. The Chelsea we know today started to take shape under John Neal, early to mid 80s, with the inevitable Chelsea hiccups on the way! John Sitton was there in the days that those who accuse us of being post Abramovic glory hunters overlook we had to endure. John comes across as a complex and contradictory character, but at heart a decent bloke. I sense a lot of anger in him, and in some ways justifiably so. The Orient documentary was wonderful, he may feel stitched up and probably was. But you feel that some of the things he said needed saying, and I’m sure harsh words are bandied about in every football dressing room. And as we all know, well those of us who follow football, is rescuing a sinking ship whilst possible isn’t frequent. I doubt even Pep Guardiola could have turned things around at Orient at that time. It’s a real pity he wasn’t given an opportunity or even a pathway to get back into the game, I’m sure he’s a hard working dedicated football professional. I hope all works out well for him. And I hope he’ll be cheering Chelsea on against City! Best to you John mate.

Some people can’t handle straight talking people and maybe that’s hindered John in football. Personally I think we need more people like John in the game. He should still be coaching in the professional game and I find it sad that the knowledge he possesses isn’t being used.

I'm coming to these interviews so late in the day. Glad I found them. I was a fan of Sitts as manager at Orient, we played some decent football considering pressure and some of the youngesters he had to(?) play to make up the first 11 had some real talent. I always wonder what happened to Sittons Orient youth side. I remember one young lad named Marvin, I think it was, who looked like a real prospect.
I actually stopped going after Pat Holland. I was so used to Orient playing decent passing footballl which you'd argue was more entertainining that the so-called real football team in East London, but I digress. We were so utterly utterly dire under Holland I quit watching. For context I went to 5 seasons in a row no missing a home game including our relegation season and including our longest ever run without a win away from home and I was at over half of those away games and at Chester when we fixed it after that foggy shit journey up north.
