EB sounds amazing, soo much depth and well balanced from highs to lows. It’s like the seasons of our lives. Been playing Elixirs for decades, very bright and crisp..... and then your guitar starts to age and you start to appreciate those fuller earthy bass tones. All personal peference
I've been using Elixirs for the last 10+ years (normal strings corrode on me too fast) now I just put on a set of EB Everlast, and immediately notice more friction than with Elixirs. Elixirs feel like they just had a wipe with some Fast Fret. I don't notice better or worse tone, but the squeaky friction I can do without, so I'm sticking with the Elixirs.
According to me, Ernie ball has more sweeter and natural acoustic tone than elixir . Elixir is more harsh and over bright tone and is 3 times expensive. The only advantage in elixir is that it last a bit longer than Ernie ball. But in terms of tone, Ernie ball is better. If you wipe the strings with string cleaner every week Ernie ball will also last longer
It's always a matter of personal taste. For me it's Elixir, been using them for years and, for what I hear in this showdown, I will stick to them because they sound way better...to me :)
I've used EB since I was 13. I'm 38 now and recently changed to elixir and I'm not looking back. The earthwoods sound great for a couple of days but die quickly. I'd highly recommend paying the few extra bucks for the better strings. Great video btw. Much love from Indiana and stay hydrated fam ♥️ 💜 💙
I've used Elixir for years and I tried the EB because I have nylon, electric and acoustic guitars I bought in quanity from Sweetwater mail order. I hate to run out. I have so MUCH FUN with my GUITARS.
Nice comparison! After having tested myself through half the range of string brands and having Ernie Balls on my Guitar now for the second time, I have to say: I've found my brand -> I love its warm, almost velvety sound. Just have to figure out now if I should go with the Phosphor Bronze or the 80/20. (maybe you can compare these too hehe)
Loved the Elixirs when strumming... but after that I just liked the EB more... Im checking this videos because Im new to acoutic guitars and need to change my strings... what do you think? Im playing an All Mahogany Fender CD60s
Mahogany is usually a "warm" sounding wood so I tend to put Elixirs on that type of guitar. It sort of rounds out the sound better. I have a taylor gs mini mohogany and it just sounds too dark when I have any other type of string on. You could always try the Elixir 80/20s too.
@@JTravlos I would like to ask a question If I may. I have an about 20 year old handmade acoustic guitar that doesn't have a flat back. I really have no idea what to choose.

Thanks! Yea, it has the V Bracing and I really like the guitar too. The fretboard is interesting because as of recent a tree with that type of streaking in it would just be thrown away. But the folks at Taylor in efforts for better conservation started using that style of ebony in all their guitars. I think it is a really cool look and it saves a large amount of trees that would normally be thrown away/destroyed. Thanks for tuning in.
Great video. I know that I am in the minority but I like the sound and feel of the Ernie Ball better than the Elixir (and they cost a lot less). How would you compare the Ernie Ball to D’Addario EJ16 or 26’s? Thanks
Great video. I just subscribed. I just ordered a few sets of the exact same ernie ball strings as they are on sale. I don't normally use ernie ball strings. How long should I expect them to last? My body chemistry is a bit corrosive so normally if I'm practicing a lot strings don't last me super long. But I am also not really the type to change them right away. Normally I wait until they are completely dead sounding until I change them, and for me that is like after maybe a month and a half more or less with daddario strings, which is what I normally use. I guess it will be something similar with the ernie balls, but I'm not sure. Also I am wondering, from an economic perspective, will I spend more money on normal strings or coated strings? I think from my calculations that any coated string needs to last me minimum of around 4 months to actually result in any notable savings for me. I assume most coated strings should last longer than that, right?
I dont really know how long the earnie balls last but I always get 3 months out of my elixirs. But it is such a case by case basis based off everything you said about body chemistry along with how much you play. Get back to use and let us know how long they last. I am curious.
