Real Vs Fake Ernie Ball Earthwood Guitar Strings. How To Spot A Fake!

- Hi Guys!
This is a video to show some of the differences I was able to find between real and fake Ernie Ball Earthwood guitar Strings.
Obviously I noticed that the writing on the back showing the artists who use Ernie Ball strings are different on the 2 packets (and the absence of the website address on the genuine strings under the bar code) but I was willing to accept that the fake strings were a rip off of an earlier style packet and I concentrated on the things that were more difficult to spot easily.
If you noticed anything that I missed in the video be sure to make a comment so we can all learn!
Hope this is useful to everyone!
I am an Ernie Ball employee. My job consists of packing these strings, with that being said I knew right away which one was fake.
Where is the ernie ball factory?
I just ordered a set from Amazon... I sure hope they are not fake
En el canal de Ernie Ball el empaque es distinto. Tu que trabajas en Ernie Ball me lo podrías aclarar?

I used Martin SP strings for years.when Ernie Ball earthwood first came out on the market I tried them. I stopped buying Martin SP's after that.I've been playing for 30 years and they're the best acoustic strings that I've ever heard or played by far.it really pisses me off that people are selling fakes over the internet and getting over on people. Thanks for this video because now I know how to be sure everything is straight.Luckily I never got ripped off. Cheers!
Very informative! Caramba - you've got to watch everything nowadays! Thank you for taking the time to make this video!!!
Thank you! The REAL question is...which one is the better sounding?^^
WTF? Fake guitar strings? What have we come to? I sort of get it now. I ordered some from Amazon and then sort of remember going, these don't sound like the ones I bought long time ago. Now it makes sense.
Should I not buy from Amazon coz I was thinking to order or should I changed my mind
@@OneDay109 The issue with Amazon is that anyone can sell on it. So you don't know if it is a China fake especially if it is from a private seller.
Whoaaa! This is amazing.
1.5 years ago, I ordered these, and everything matched the real one....
And today I received another, and it matched everything on the fake one....
Thank you so much 👊
I ran directly to my old strings pack to get sure of the originality of them. Thanks man
I love Ernie Ball strings, I only use Ernie Ball on my guitars. In the first few seconds I knew right away the real ones had the foil visible. I’ve always thought it was weird, but I feel the shrinkage of the material during the heat clamp would cause that.
I didn’t even notice the Registered logo was missing, nor did I ever notice the Ball’s are best! Wow! Great info!
Well done. I went straight to my case and checked. Genuine. But i will be checking next time that is for sure.👍
I just switched to Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze medium lights. Best sounding string for my Martin 00-28. Thanks for this video. I'll surely keep an eye out for that trademark and fake packaging.
Thanks for this. I would have never noticed. I really like Earthwoods.
Just bought two sets of Earthwood 13's pb yesterday from a guitar shop that I've been going to for years and your observations are correct, I love these strings and I'm sad to learn about the fakes but also glad to know, thanks for uploading, fellow Aussie here, I wonder how far around the world these fakes are ending up, the colour of the windings of the fakes would ring alarm bells for me if I ever opened some up.
I checked all my Ernie Ball Earthwound strings and they all have the genuine signs you pointed out except for the flap that is next to the bar code. All mine the flap covers the last digit of the bar code. I find this interesting.
The fake ones always have the non asmr-y and non satisfying packet
This brings me a terrible sadness. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
Just look out for "Ball's Are Best". Packaging can varies. You can never get it wrong if just look out for Ball's Are Best.
On the internal packaging, it looks like there is a slight difference in the shading inside the word "Earthwood." On the genuine strings, the shading appears to be composed of small lines, whereas on the fakes it looks like it may be just one solid color.
Why not put them both on and do a sound comparison?
Trust me the fakes will sound crap....
My strings meet all the criteria except for the foil edges. Guess I can assume they're genuine and that the packaging just varies (especially considering this video is a few years old). Crazy to think I have to second guess my strings though. =/
It was really helpful, cuz this strings sounds so horrible on my guitar that I was thinking they are fake. Nope, original. Now I know that I need something else
I just bought 9 packs of these snides! I guess the price was too good to be true, I noticed straight away as I was changing them from a genuine set on my guitar, they don’t sound as bright and no better sounding than the 3 month old (and very played) original set that I had on there, another thing I noticed was the actual ball ends are different, the fakes were slightly flatter and a brighter metal, cut from a different machine, I got mine from an eBay seller, time to go back and complain!
Thank you for the video , yes , I guess the "R" means "real" , Glad to have it on my package !
Congratulations on 100 subscribers
what if the internal packaging paper is white but the outer packaging and the strings meet what you've said? are those fake ot what
Wow , thank you!
I have 4 new sets and I'm happy to say all are legit Ernie Ball strings.
✌👽👍🎸🎼🎶🎵⚡
Damn I got duped. I just got it today. Everything checks out. Such a menace
Спасибо. Очень позновательный обзор. Автору огромное благодарность.
I have a new set with the commer above balls, athe pack has no over lapping foil showing as your genuine set has, Mine also has the Register trade R symbol. I belive my string packets was white from memory as i through them out but kept my outer packet. It also has the crimple join.
So either the fakers have got better or the genuine sets also have diffrences?.
i appreciate the tips but they only cost about 6 dollars, so just order them from guitar center or another legitimate retail store and you wont get the fake ones
A very important video❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I got some strings at Guitar Ctr today and after watching this video I look real close to see if I could get fake strings, m,,mmm
Thanks!
The fakes have no hang hole on the package,as in hanging them on a display in a store...
Both the genuine and the fake had holes in them for hang sell. The holes did look different though.
Very good job dude.
Hello, what is the original guitar string in the 8th minute 20th second of the video ?
At 8:20
TOP is FAKE.
BOTTOM is GENUINE.
I`ve bought fake super slinky strings once and the first clue was when you unwind them they do not spring straight and look sort of floppy and kinked. As for the sound you will find that you cant intonate them so they sound `off`, I then noticed the packaging was wrong, they were from Ebay, I`ve just ordered some from Amazon and if they turn out fake I will never buy strings online again.
My dad had a theory about fake boobs. He said if you can touch them they're real 😂
Order from a quality seller, unfortunately Amazon isn't trustworthy in some cases.
Mine dont have the foil on the top but in middle in the back.
Did you ever contact ernie ball?
Thanks
Why do i have 2 packs of earthwoods that look like the fakes but have the R on them? lol
I got real ones .. thx
I dont that that Eagle emblem though
tell us how they compare played
I literally just got some fake Ernie Ball's from a seller on ebay lol be careful guys, this happens a lot, and an easy way to avoid it is by buying from trusted sellers (Sweetwater, Guitar Center, etc)
A couple other ways u can tell if Ernie Ball's are fake
1) the packaging will feel/sound excessively crinkly
2) the stings themselves are grimy feeling (because the packaging doesn't have a proper seal)
There are many other ways to tell, but only if u have the real thing side by side, which of course won't help if u just have the fake ones lol
nice video thank u
just bought mine from local music center, $6.99 a set, would never buy something online thats already super cheap locally.
Well aren't you just precious
@@MrCoffeekelly
Well at least he wasn't stupid enough to pay$18.95 for a set like the person did who made the video.
thank you,, now I know I bought the fake one... sounds great though,,, not as great as the real deal....
Hard to believe they are fake. Trade Mark Infringment is a serious crime.
I am inclined to believe the differance is that it is two different Ernie Ball factories.
Yes, one in USA and the other one in China 😂
But the Sad thing is altought i got the geniune ones, they got stained after 4 hours of put them and playing (sorry for My English 😅)
Same
what do you mean stained?
bravo...but I got fake.😭..
Glad i just went to guitar center instead of ordering them on ebay or something. I got real strings lol
Don’t buy on ebay
