That's a little over the top. He didn't half turn out some dross as well mind. A lot of the lyrics are very basic, bordering on the immature. I can't believe that this is same band that produced the wonderful 'a new world record' only four years earlier. At this point they were no longer taken seriously.

Love this group. ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Telephone Line", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Rockaria!", "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight" etc.

John Lennon actually referred to ELO as the "sons of the Beatles" which was quite a tribute. Jeff Lynne (the driving force of the band and lead singer) ended up producing George Harrison's albums and joined him as part of the Traveling Wilburys.

Mr. Blue Sky. Happiest groovy song ever. ELO is fabulous and every song is different but always catchy and musical in the best sense. Telephone Line after that but you really can’t go wrong with any of their songs if you want something to pick up your mood.

This group was 100% gold throughout my entire childhood & this is only one example of it! They have so many songs to choose from, it will definitely provide plenty of reaction material - from lighter hits like this to the rock out sound of 'Don't Bring Me Down' to soundtrack hits such as 'Xanadu' in collaboration with Olivia Newton John & The Tubes.

  • @bradsullivan2495

There are like 4 distinct eras of this band. Electric Light Orchestra who then shortened it to ELO to Jeff Lynnes ELO now. Started highly stringed progressive. Then became more commercial but still using strings. Then a few synth based albums and try to hear a string. The final version is Jeff Lynnes ELO. More laid back with a few strings. One constant. JEFF LYNNE: writer, producer, arranger, lead vocalist and guitarist.

I love so many ELO songs, but this one is my fav.
If you time traveled backwards and found yourself in a disco with this song playing…If your feet don’t start compelling you to move to the dance floor and find a foxy lady to dance with… then see a mortician, cuz you might be dead inside.
I believe the lyrics to the song are close to this in meaning btw. I think they are about someone that needs to catch the last train of the night, but he’s met someone and has a feeling there is something special happening, thus conflicting him. In the end it sounds like his choice was easy and he goes with the romantic adventure. 😍

ELO is all the brain child of Jeff Lynne, a brillant musician and producer. One thing about his music you will find, is that "Orchestra," is not just a title for the band, he puts a ton of orchestral music in his stuff. One of my favorite songs by them is a purely Instrumental tune called "Fire on High," which I fully recommend.

ELO (Jeff Lynne - a multi-intrumentalist, singer, writer, producer) had more top 40 hits in the US and UK between 1972 and 1986 than any other band. They accounted for a third of all the top 40 hits. Jeff Lynne has written and produced for over 50 artists including George Harrison, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Take That, Bryan Adams, and many, many more. He was also a founding member of The Travelling Wilburys and was credited by Roy Orbison for restarting his career. It still amazes me how so few people either know about ELO or Jeff Lynne.

Nobody sounded like ELO and nobody has since. They made many, many great songs. If this is your first listening, your minds will definitely be expanded by their sound. I feel like every ELO album was experimental in some way. That was Jeff Lynne's nature and part of his genius. Discovery was my least favorite of his experiments. LTTL was one of the more palatable tracks on Discovery. I remember being really disappointed when the album was released--I was 16. But plenty of ELO fans love this album, and Jeff has earned the benefit of the doubt from me. Most of what came before and after was brilliant. You'll get plenty of excellent suggestions. Here are some sleepers that folks might request less often: Rockaria!, Big Wheel, Ma Ma Ma Belle, 10538 Overture, Fire on High, Four Little Diamonds, Livin' Thing, Summer and Lightning, and anything from the Eldorado album. Also, you can't go wrong with the Traveling Willburys. Have fun!

Suggestion for you guys - the prog-rock band from mid 60's, Camel. They have many albums, probably their most well-known being 'The Snow Goose' from 1975. Might help to get the back story first, the album is inspired by Paul Gallico's novella of the same name. Be aware though that this can be a very deep wormhole if you start digging! Thank you, I was just about to clarify that for him. (Although, it's not an "electrical" band, it's an "electric" band.)

G'day Guys! this track is certainly "disco" but to get the other side of ELO try "Don't Bring Me Down" a solid rock number! Cheers!

One of my favorite group. Suggest Telephone Line live at Wembley Stadium 2017. ❤

ELO is a progressive rock band , Jeff Lynn helpt George Harris Tom petty bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, you want to hear good jams showdown , it’s a living thing , awesome band they still play today .
