  • This Christmas I received this SUP/Kayak sail and had to go and test it out! ⛵️ Winds were pretty strong on this day up to 21 knots! 💨 How do you think it performed? 😅

    Based on the research i have done, i think the v-shaped sails on kayaks are far more effective and maneuverable than the circular ones.

    I have used a paddle sail on my kayak. Greaat fun but difficult to steer using the paddle and turning the sail. Used it on the journey back on the river Fowey. 3 miles and only hit 3 boats moored up. Still am 71 so thats my excuse !

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  5 месяцев назад +1

      I will have to try it out on the kayak! Yeh I can imagine especially as I guess it’s fixed in place whilst kayaking! Oh no that’s not good! 😅 1 boat per mile at least you’re consistent! 😂 Fair play I hope I am still paddling at 71! 🙌🏼

  • @Meibeon
    @Meibeon 6 месяцев назад +1

    You steer with the paddle facing forward and move it to either side of the nose as you want to turn, you turn very sharply though.

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  6 месяцев назад +1

      Oh so like have it out in front like jousting? 😂 That makes sense tbf but yeh like you say must be violent!

    • @Steveriknows
      @Steveriknows 6 месяцев назад +1

      Can't wait to see this technique tried. One of the reasons you wouldn't steer a canoe from the front is how unstable it gets, so it should be interesting, especially with one hand.

    Goes without saying how important your tether is in windy conditions, add a sail and good luck catching up to your SUP if you fall off.

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  6 месяцев назад +2

      100% 🙌🏼 This sail collapses straight away if you let go of it with how I had it set up but would still be moving quite quick in these conditions! 💨🏄🏼‍♂️

    It seems really fast. I was wondering if you could compare normal paddling speed x sailing speed. Also, another question; what we do if wind is towards? forget it and paddle?

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  Месяц назад

      Yes it was pretty quick for a paddle! 😅 This also was stronger than normal winds so much faster than usual! Not sure of exact speed as did not have Garmin or anything on but at a guess must have been atleast double! Yes pretty much, unless you can tack
