    Hey guys!
This comment section has really become a fashion forum which I love and it's been hard to respond to everyone so I'm just passing by to say thank you! MAIAZINE is about community and sharing ideas so YOU are part of it and it makes me super happy to see all of this.
As a lot of you have commented already, all these opinions shouldn't be taken too seriously because this was made for entertainment purposes: I myself rarely buy new clothes so I just use whatever I like!
See you very soon with the trend predictions video...

The girl with short hair in the leather jacket needs to just naff the f0ck off - most of these designers have a very narrow view of fashion and style - and also, more than half of these people don’t even look like they can dress themselves… what is happening??

I get it that different people like different things and different trends, but you should never criticise or even attack someone for their fashion choices. To each their own. We can express our feelings and opinions without insulting each other. Be kind.

i don't crochet, but i think crochet is one of the best trends that became popular this year. it's super accessible way to start making your own clothes, and making something for yourself to wear can actually be so special. i feel like it makes you appreciate the process of creating clothes (or creating in general) more, which is something that gets forgotten with fast fashion
my best friend gifted me a crocheted plushy and it's my favourite gift ever because i can feel how much effort and love is put into it. it's "granny" because it's made with love!!

I’ve been struggling with sticking to one aesthetic and it’s been triggering imposter syndrome in me and making me feel inauthentic, so hearing someone say that it’s fine or even better to have multiple aesthetics and to dress according to what you feel like just made me so happy and made me feel very much OK about myself and my style .. so big shoutout to them

I just wear whatever I want to wear and have been doing that for years! I might not be trendy but at least I’m happy not killing myself over my fashion choices. Like fashion should be 100% fun and stress free! Don’t let others judge you and make you feel bad about what you’re wearing! If you have friends like that then I’m sorry but you need new friends. I have always just worn whatever I want to wear and whatever I’m feeling and vibing with that day and I’ll tell you I’ve never regretted that! Trends are overrated and fashion should just be fun!

I don't know if this is a generational gap or more an european POV, but I don't understand why so many people is worried about aesthetics. They are such a recent invention, and a lot of them are based on times when the "aesthetic" was created NATURALLY, due to social, economic and artistic backgrounds. How in earth can a person feel "inauthentic" just for wearing one or another fabric/color/shape? Clothing is important, yes, but they are just tools, they're important becuase there's a *real person* behind them, telling a story. I think that's why I don't like aesthetics, they're like random stories, non personal, just empty and ready to be adopted by whoever.

    • @dalmatinka9084

I personally change aesthetics according to my mood, also depends on the season, and where I will be going.
And sometimes I go through phases, I’ll feel more ladylike and classic, skirts and kittens heels, and other times I’ll feel more edgy and rock, black coat and platform combat boots.

  • @candiirabbit
    @candiirabbit 2 года назад +7869

I kinda agree with the “don’t stick to one aesthetic” because some people think that they NEED to only dress one way instead of enjoying a variety of styles or combining and making it uniquely tailored to yourself. Someone complimented my style at work and said that she wanted to dress more fashionably too but isn’t sure which style she wants to pick. If you want to always dress one way, go ahead, no problem, but if you feel like experimenting that’s also not a problem. I think people get overwhelmed and forget that fashion is an art where you can express yourself and not have to always follow the rules of one style. How do you think we get new styles?

not gonna say anything about white influencers engaging or not engaging in anything but i will say that y2k stands for "the year 2000" and countries other than America, England etc, set many of the most iconic fashion trends back then. Europe and europop are some of the main y2k influences and ppl nowadays credit america like stop. anyways during the early 2000s sure black hip hop aesthetic and culture was booming but it wasn't as relevant around the globe as it was in america and white influencers are likely influenced by their parents and European celebs of those times so of course the white influencers y2k will be different to what you consider to be iconic y2k and especially non english speaker or European white influencers y2k will be completely unrelated to black culture y2k for obvious reasons. i don't think its fair to A) expect every white person, influencer and celeb to have to be all inclusive they are still people who can wear and like what they want and B) i'll be honest (I'm Polish, we don't get much of this type of drama here but i see its common in america) when white influencers do finally do anything that is considered black culture/owned or inspired , more often than not it becomes a scandal and ppl are never happy. Some white influencers may just wanna stay unproblematic with how popular cancel culture is today. Ik race is important but not everything is about race and race does not need to be brought up in every most basic topic. y2k is a broad term and everyone interprets it how they like. i do hope that everyone gets credit where credit is due though because that is correct many ppl claim things without mentioning its origins which can be disrespectful and harmful. I do love the black y2k aesthetic but being as pale as a sheet of printer paper i'd look ridiculous lol. I'll leave it to the pretty black girls and guys to slay

I was picturing something a little different when she mentioned that. I was picturing the oversized sweaters paired with maxi skirts look. Big on big. It might look good on a tall model, but on a short gal like me it looks super frumpy. If I want to do baggier on top, the bottom will be more form fitting or less overwhelming with material. Likewise for the bottoms. If I'm wearing a long skirt, I pair it with a form fitting top that shows some skin (bare arms or shoulders with a nice neckline). It just looks like some of the fashion world has adopted the very modest, fundamentalist Christian look (i.e most of the body is covered by lots of fabric). I'm so over that.

White ppl seem to do this a lot. I remember when ppl used to go to music festivals with the feathers and beads in their hair and even saw ppl wearing those feathered chief hats. It was a trend for a while and then it died out. I found it kind weird too take from NA culture like that and then say it wasn't cool anymore when those things are literally apart of NA culture.
I kinda feel the same with cowboy boots. I'm from an area inTexas that has a lot of farmland but the city is kinda close by, so I grew up seeing a combo of the two styles. And it feels bizarre for city ppl to debate if cowboy boots/hats are a dead trend as if cowboys/farmers don't still exist and wear those thing bc of efficiency and not bc they think it's cute.
When something becomes apart of your everyday life it's normal that these communities make these items more aesthetic to all the variety of outfits they have. So it feels rude and tone-deaf for these white city kids to try and say those things aren't cool anymore

Wearing baggy on baggy clothes is a confidence booster for me. I grew up in a church were woman were expected to wear extremely modest clothing but my Mom always pressured me to be modest yet attractive. She would pressure me to wear tons of makeup and was always trying to get me to balance on the thin line of “trendy yet modest.” If I ever messed up and wore something too form fitting or too trendy she’d get angry. When I started wearing baggy on baggy fashion I was in love. That style of fashion with chains and whatnot repelled old men from my church like you would not believe. I get to focus soley on the clothes and not hyper-fixate on my body and how it is being perceived which feels so freeing to me. If people can’t walk in heals then every time they do they’re gonna get better, it’s called practice. Not everyone has to be perfect or able to walk like a model in order to wear what they want. Some of these comments are so silly and judgey. You just know that as these people grow up they’ll realize being to stringent about what other people do isn’t it. It’s like I do get where they’re coming from but why do we heavily critique women for wearing certain things? Like that guy who said he didn’t like the tight long sleeve top underneath the slip dress like maybe some women don’t want to show their arms or dress a little more modestly or warm. There’s such an underlying misogyny to fashion as well. Menswear isn’t half as criticised and it’s much less innovative and creative than womenswear.

Literally all affordable clothing here is casual old people clothes, athleisure, or cutesy so I have no choice but to combine these styles with my own to save money)
edit: in addition to that, "not having a full wardrobe" isn't an excuse to not have an outfit. The key is to have a few key pieces (like a go-to shirt, pants, dress, etc. versatility is also an important thing to note), and just mix and match to wear the same clothes repeatedly, don't just buy something just because it "looks good" since you'll waste money. I actually agree with the girl on her comment about the naked wolfe platforms. I dislike the brands icon on the back of them. I think the boots are perfectly fine without it. If they made them without that on them, i would buy!

i love all the differing opinions on each topic. it highlights how fashion really is just another art form, full of subjectivity and expression of opinion!! makes me happy about this coming generation of designers :)

Just a reminder that what this one person thinks is over, if you like it, wear it. If it makes you happy and you feel sexy and confident, you can pull of nearly everything. In MY own opinion there are items I dislike at the moment, , like small sunglasses, but if I see someone wearing something 'very uncool and out of fashion' and you still wear it, I have got mad respect for you , it shows that you do your own thing and don't need to follow the crowd. Also, fashion is very expensive, and lying awake being anxious about a huge credit card debt is so not worth it. I know social media makes it hard to not repeat outfits, but your friends and partners, parents, don't only love you for your clothes. 💚

If its really important to you to have brands and you really want to spice up your insta, borrow some expensive stuff from friends, friends parents, brother, then plan a fun casual shoot with the clothes and then return it. Keep your captions vague. There's ways to fake it, but remember that's what most others are doing! You look back on memories of who you were w ith, places, not the outfits! Have fun!

I love sweater vests. I've always been drawn to that cozy style and preppy look and sweater vests do both of those things. People don't like sweater vests because they've been oversaturated but there's nothing inherently wrong or ugly about them.
I've been wearing them for years and I'm not stopping.

I can't understand the girl who said pockets need to go.
I can't believe in 2021 women still don't get good pockets on all their clothes, and still need to carry a handbag to compensate for the lack of practicality of their wardrobe.
In 2022, I vote for pockets on most women clothing, like skirts, dresses, cardigans, vests, coats! and not just condom size ones XD

@@MD-rp6jd maybe you do. i have super baggy jeans with pockets that are the size of a credit card. it makes no sense - my boyfriends straight jeans can hold both our phones and wallets. why can't my baggy jeans do the same? it's clearly not about figure.

@@MD-rp6jd Funny you assume some people dress to look unflattering! I'm looking good though thanks, and I GOT POCKETS ;)
Menswear, especially classic suits and coats, are loaded with pockets and no one thinks they are not flattering. They use the right fabric and work with shapes to make that happen.
It is a widely known fact in fashion that pockets are ridiculously small or non existent in women's garments, no matter the shape or style, compared to men's clothing. KC's example is so true!
I tried winter coats the other day, and most of them had NO pockets, or some too small to put your hands in it - double punishment if you forget your gloves ! XD
It makes no sense, especially when you try on oversize styles!!! And I tried coats worth up to 650 euros, so don't tell me no one paid a skilled designer at this price tag...

I agree 100%. I'm an older women, and I prefer to not carry a handbag. I travel lightly and use my pockets. The only time I have to carry a handbag is when I"m wearing something without pockets. To me carrying a handbag, I feel like I'm lugging a small suitcase around. lol

I took her to mean clothes that have random useless pockets on them. I’ve been seeing a lot of useless pockets just stuck on clothing in ways that it doesn’t look like it belongs at all. You know the pockets on the front of a t-shirt but then they put that pocket on dresses and coats and it doesn’t make sense.

I always found it funny how fashion students have this persona of quirky, chill, and “not like everyone else” vibes. But here they are, telling society what is/is not trendy and what we shouldn’t wear to fit in….

  • @taelivision7973

The very idea of "trends" suck in general. Wear whatever tf YOU want. These annual and micro trends contribute a lot to overconsumption and can have negative ecological and socio-cultural impacts. Please only buy what you feel good in. Sustainability does not only mean buying from those self proclaimed, expensive sustainable brands. Sustainability can also mean wearing and rewearing your existing clothes as long as you can. "Trends" can either compel people to buy what they don't need or get rid of perfectly good clothes that don't fit that "current trend".
So we need to stop following trends as well as stop trying to get rid of "trends". Wear whatever you want. Go hell with people's opinions. Promote sustainable living.
