Perhaps after clipping a corner of the fly, tying a bit of rope to a loop and throwing the rope over the top to pull up from the opposite side. I really like this tent
I use it for camping out at star parties, so it helps to have the extra room for equipment. No point in being uncomfortable out there. It's nice to be able to stand up and not be restricted by having everything crammed in a small tent.
Any way you could make a video repacking the tent? I can't get the tent back in its original bag for the life of me. And that's without the tent poles that magically fit in when I first opened it.
Cody Reynolds I can try, but I took photos during the original unpacking. The real trick is to press the air out as you go. With the tent posts removed, pull the mesh and the hinges to the middle. Fold one side in up to the edge of that bundle of mesh. Pull the mesh back over that folded section. Fold the opposite side inward to the edge of the mesh. Then fold that over top the mesh so all you have is a long horizontal piece with no mesh showing. Then fold one end of that 1/8th to 1/4 of the way in. Go to the opposite side and fold it 1/3 of the way in. Fold that section one more time over against the opposite 1/4th fold. Fold up the rainfly and put it on next. Put the tent peg bag over that, roll up like a taco, and tie it shut. This should fit in the bag. I'll try to make a video from the picture stills, I guess.
I am considering buying this tent but now I am concerned about getting that fly-sheet over the frame. If it is windy it looks like it might be an impossible task to complete alone, and my wife is quite short so can't really help reach up high to throw it over the frame either. I can just imagine us on a windy day going around this tent 5 times getting more and more irritated! Any insight from people who have bought it on this possible issue? Thanks for the video OP, I had only watched the Coleman marketing vid for this tent but now I see more of the potential in it (and potential issues).
It is not as difficult as this video makes it look. I am 5ft 7 and manage fine on my own. It helps if you either put it over before you stand the whole thing up (I always forget until after its stood up) or have a good throwing arm, your wife can stand the other side and catch a corner.
I believe Coleman sells pole replacement kits. Not sure if that would be what you need. Third parties offer replacement kits as well. The steel poles may be a different story.
@@simonlee8889 I’m not sure what to tell you. Mine has it. Make sure it’s the right door. The flap opens up to allow passage of a cord. See the time stamped point in the video.
@@XT8Dob My 'dark flap' is a piece of black plastic and I have looked both in and all around it and there's no way any of it opens up or is covering some small entrance... perhaps this is an innovation to make the hinge more durable?
comrabure Should be. I used it in March down into the 40's and 50's at night, but I also have a warm sleeping bag, too. During the day, it gets a little toasty, so it helps to open up the side windows. It all depends on what kind of weather you'll be up against.
You said you went through a few cans of scotch guard... did you waterproof this tent more than it was supplied with? I just took delivery of this tent and thought it was already well- proofed (Coleman WeatherTec)?
WestwoodTableSoccer My previous Coleman tent had that WeatherTec label and I still had moisture problems and condensation on the inside walls after a rain. Just to be on the safe side, I went ahead and used scotch guard and ended up only getting a tiny bit of water inside along where the zippers meet. Water came in at the slight gap between the two zippers, I guess.
Glad it helped. Other posters have recommended putting on the rainfly before lifting the poles. Just make sure to set the velcro vents to open or closed ahead of time.
Kathryn Whitney On the recent camping trip with the tent, I used a heavy duty 10x20 tarp that I folded across and then folded in the edges to match the tent footprint. Before the trip, I did go through a few cans of scotch guard. Didn't have any leaks. The only water that came in was at the front door where the zippers came together at the bottom and even that only amounted to a few drops. The blue tarp in the video was a lighter Harbor Freight tarp.
Kathryn Whitney As my previous comment stated, only a few drops came in where the zippers joined at the bottom of the front door. Aside from that, the tent stayed dry. The rain we had was steady, but not too heavy. We were worried about lightning and tornadoes that night, so we stayed with someone in a cabin and rode out the storm there. The tent was fine in the morning.
XT8Dob Thanks for uploading this video, my octagon has finally arrived and this setup is invaluble! I've got a tarp to use as a groundsheet which is 13ft by 16ft (never done this before), a few bloggers recommend cutting it to fit the tent footprint as opposed to folding, what way do you find better? Also when you fold do you feel the uneven edges inside the tent or is this not really a problem? Thanks :)
Quality upload. Relaxing natural sounds with informative text. Enjoyable. Thank you & God bless
Very helpful video, thank you! Didn't think one person could do it without straining the poles, but this is a great method.

Looks like a great tent. May be too much trouble for just a few nights of camping. I like it but, still undecided. Thanks for the video

Very clear 👍🏻 thank you 🙂
What a lovely back garden you have to test your tent in :) fantastic video as well, thank you.
Really helpful thanks... unfortunately I now Know I couldn't pitch this in a wind. Also you need to be able to open and close the vents once it's up.
Very helpful thx

@@XT8Dob I admire the fact that you took the time to write this out lol
Maybe it would be less of a struggle with the fly sheet to put it on top before raising the poles just an observation what do you think ?.

Daijyobanai One suggestion has been to drape the rainfly over before raising the tent. It’s doable.

Neil from Art Attack?
I have an octago 8 too but the the support for the peep snapped! Where do we order replacements, might you know?

Where’s the electrical cord entrance? Seriously thinking about purchasing. Love the spacious area.
Brian Britton there’s a dark flap at the corner of the rigid door. See timestamp 17:49.
XT8Dob thank you

Do you think 6 adults would fit in this tent?
I think it would be a bit crowded with six. I needed the room for the gear I take to star parties. If comfort is a priority, five at the max I'd say.
Does anyone know if this tent will be warm enough for camping in august?

what size tarp did you use? Do you use any waterproofing sprays or seam sealers?

Have you been camping with any heavy rain with the tent? If so, did you have any water coming in?
