Thats tough you passed on Runnin but when that beat comes on you instantly hear Pharcydes hook in your head. That beat found its rightful owners
If he would’ve rapped on RUNNIN, it wouldn’t have been the same record. Beats are more of a spiritual experience rather than a creative one.
Yup. It happened how it was supposed to. Universe don’t make mistakes.
The fact you even found it is blessing and a Jewel... Appreciate you sharing that with us... ✌️
Yes. Thank you for sharing. So cool! 🙌
Mad skillz doesn’t get enough props. It was a tragedy that his year wrap up was stolen by uncle murda. Mad skillz if you are reading this we appreciate you much respect
Wasn't stolen. He stopped doing it.
I love that nerdy hip-hop historian shit!! Skillz should rhyme over every instrumental on that tape as an homage to Dilla
Man, this era will always be the most flavorful and creative era of hip hop.
I can’t imagine the emotions you might be feeling. This is an absolute gem. R.I.P to the greatest to ever do it! Many people commented on you passing on Runnin’ but no respect there, I’m glad you did. Not saying you wouldn’t have blessed this beat, but if you didn’t pass it up, we wouldn’t have gotten the classic Pharcyde track!
Daaaammmnnn, Skillz! Cant believe you passed on "Running' ". You would sound so dope on it. Its a Pharcyde classic now. But just imagine...could've been a Mad Skillz classic now. Jay Dee was so talent and so giving. Hip Hop would not be the same without dope producers like him, and dope emcees like u.
That's the beautiful thing about music, he didn't hear what pharcyde heard so even if he was forced to rap on it we wouldn't have gotten "Runnin'". Dope hearing these beats though
Boogeyman is that you?
Thank the universe they got it
SKillz tripping! Passed up on Runnin' I first heard that beat in 95! Didn't know Dilla was going to be Dilla yet, but even then I knew this beat was crazy! I was studying sampling back then and found the original music to Runnin! Dilla had a way with sampling like no other...
I wanna say that the "Jam" and "It's Goin Down" were the first Jay Dee beats I heard..1995..after that I was hooked..then"Runnin", "Stakes is High" and "Drop"...🔥🔥🔥
Picking beats is a talent in itself. That's why you need a team of talent around you. More ears on it the better
The more flava beat deserves to be heard by the masses
I think this beat uses the same sample that Pete Rock used for Smooth Sailing joint
Isn't that what's happening right now ?

The Culture is glad to have you, my brother. RIP TO DILLA Papsmere Virginia !!!!! STAND UP
That’s insane piece of history!!!
But can we get a tutorial on how to fix tapes doe?...LOL!
Cut the damaged parts closet to the end where it ;rose and use a little bit of glue let it dry. Make sure it's wound up tight first
Y’all must be young 😂😂😂
@Dr Dread Haaa yupp it was a bunch of hip hop surgeons bak in da day lmaooo we had no choice 2 fix it or lose crucial footage lol
Reconnect the two broke ends using scotch tape👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼 lbs lol
Yeah I had a few tapes but I’m more of the CD clean and repair era😂😂😂
that interlude is so crazy, so dilla!
I rewound that part about 10 times
Wow!!! Damn Skillz! Dilla’s influenced a lot of drummer’s to play behind the beat a lil! RIP!!
Some ol Smithsonian, I found an original Picasso I forgot I had-type shit... Also should make your eyes water a lil too.
Dilla.... man, gone too soon... but changed EVERYTHING & inspired many!
bro all the drums you hear today that groove are dilla inspired. He made himself immortal. I'm not even sure he had a clue what he was doing to the world.
back in the days my favourite track was the "its going down" joint but with that lil intro with that go go go go....shit hits me different fo sure !!! damn dope session
3:11 That 'Drop'-like beat was hittin' right! Skillz knew what he was doin', steering clear of the 'Runnin' beat - a bit too melancholic for his style. And The Pharcyde did a great job with it!
Dilla with that foul snare. Kanye once said Jay's drums could be paralleled but never matched.
That tape should be in a museum! Dub it and donate it to the Hip Hop History Museum.
Daaaamn… What’s for you, is FOR YOU! That tape belongs in a museum or something
the original yearly rap up man salute madd skillz
Can’t lie, I got goosebumps when Runnin dropped
I think J is sending his Love. "Can't keep running away . . ."
Bro From Where rarely left my car's tape deck in '96 lol. That was the year that I literally stopped producing for about 6 months and just studied this dude named JayDee. I know Skilliz won't see this but man I feel every ounce of joy you hve knowing that you finally found that tape. Peace and blessings.......and pleaaaase digitize that joint like yesterday lol
Awwwwh man I appreciate that bro! 96 was an amazing year for music! Yea man Dilla was special none of us had a clue of what he would become just glad that I was around to witness it. Definitley digitized that jawn! 🤣🤣Stay up my G! Peace! ✌🏾
@@madskillz848 Yoooo I almost fell outta my chair when I refreshed this 🤣🤣....Yo Skilllz! Peace God and much respect due. Truly a trailblazer. That album was perfection man. Not to fan out but I'll let you how much I listened to that jawn. My (now) wife and I were dating in '96. After i watched this vid I went downstairs saying it's "It's going down baby", she immediately responds "It's going dowwwwwwnnn" LMAO. She hadn't heard it since then but she knew. Peace to you and the family bro ✌🏾
my jaw dropped when i heard the last track, thats unfortunate
Seriously, getting a lil emotional here… thank you OG 🏔️🫀
Oh my goodness gracious gosh! That's crazy.... Running been a favourite of mine since it dropped. Salute to you both.
@4:15😮😮😮😮😮😮...I know how you feel Skillz.... Damn! The look of regret 😒.. you still good beans my dude .. appreciate your post. Despite the "insult to injury"post these other cats are doing..
No disrespect, but Pharcyde killed that beat. Happy he passed on it. Still amazing HH history.
Exactly
How he flipped that rkelly hey love was crazy
Griselda would absolutely kill that 2nd beat 1:15
1:45 sample = Canto De Ossanha same sample used for phif dawg bend over J DILLA USED SAME SAMPLES AND FLIPPED IT FOR MULTIPLE BEATS
As someone that used to rap I know what it's like to hear a beat and be like "Nah" then years later that beat is amazing I think Cole did that on the off-season too
Shit don’t always connect as soon as you press play🎶🎵
@@NolanCoe big facts that's why do many rappers pass on huge beats
That B side i remember that joint Jam you went hard on that
That beat with the Krs sample has a sample from Thad Jones and Mel Lewis' Quiet Lady. Pete Rock later used it on his Smooth Sailing instrumental.
The way he flipped the timing of KRS’s vocals was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dilla flipped this again too on Vol 2 Vintage
Runnin is 1 of the illest beats of all time.Def a classic song too
So you had first dibbs on the Runnin' beat? All these are gems! Cool shit man, thanks for sharing Mad Skilz you were in my rotation back in the day!
🤯 the last Pharcyde beat 😭😭
Dilla was a monster 🔥🔥🤦🏾♂️🔥🤦🏾♂️🔥🔥🤦🏾♂️✅💯✅💯🔥🔥
Fn fire...rest in power dilla..
This right here, this right, here, can get no better
RIP 🐐 you live on forever
Labcabincalifornia is a classic album...I used to put it in and let it go. No skipping. If you have the J Dilla Madlib ft. Frank N Dank 12' single for McNasty Filth on the instrumental you can hear someone rapping real low and it sounds like Skillz!?
That 2nd beat gave me goosebumps.. I’m floating but I’m not high
Thnk u Mad we luv u for this!!🤎🤎💎💎💿💿💿🪙🪙
I wish skillz and nottz would do a whole project together
J. DILLA the G.O.A.T!!!! My number ONE of all-time
Mine too as well 👍🏿
best producer ever and an amazing lyricist, in terms of lyrics there is too much variation to say Dilla was the best, but he was remarkable for sure, even with his lyrical talent or simply what he had in his mind.
Omg the holy grail rest in paradise J Dilla
THAT SNAAAAARE !!!
Over the years, Runnin might be the beat I’ve ended up freestyling to most in my life
This is crazy!!!
Need a you and Bink tape again man
The jam was my tune 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
this is amazing!!
We appreciate you sharing it
I would have been so emotional hearing that!
Gratitude
Incredible
I was trying to hold it together until I heard 🎶🎶🎶 Can't keep running away 🎶🎶 beat
Legendary.
Big up to you skillz being the originator on the raps ups....
Wow, just wow.
Side B,GOODDAAAMN!
Is that the first version with the kick in the right spot, before the Fatlip fistfight?
Yeah lol...the sound of the new kick is different but the kick pattern is practically the same as the OG.
Damn even after all these years Dilla still screwing faces like it's nobody business lol
If only you could release the original tape files! So we can get to listen to it fully, front to back! This would be a blessing! Having the OG TAPE!
I can hook you up with some Dilla unreleased tapes too, so you can hear more of them in OG quality...
I don't know if its too much to ask for...but please consider it and give us some hints if you intend to release it...maybe you should put it out on a vinyl release together with Dilla's estate and his family. We Dilla fans would appreciate to get more indepth into his catalogue and find everything we could possibly find, because we love it!
Damn! Get with Madlib and recreate these. Send the proceeds to his kids.
Thaz some shi! Hiphop history!
The sample to Track 1 is Boots Randolph "Ev'ry Day Of My Life". Was this beat ever used?
Thx for sharing
So many gems 💎
Long Live J Dilla!
Picking beats can be difficult. Depending on your mood or content, you're going to skip stuff.
You might hear a beat and be like that's dope but not want it because you don't see yourself on it.
Sometimes a producer will say, I had this concept to do X, Y, Z on this track.
I mean, BIG didn't pick Juicy. Puff told him to do it.
You gotta have vision to select a beat. Not that Skillz didn't have vision. He just didn't see himself on those tracks.
It is what it is.
Amazing brother. Thank you for sharing.
That’s how I felt when I sold my tesla stock four years ago looking back
Wow! Thank you for sharing this.
Wow!!!! Priceless 💎
Bout to make me pull out my "From Where" CD
Crazy!!!!!
Remaster and release
I can only imagine what you would’ve said on the running beat!! 😳🤯
Way Dope👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Yo, I was just putting this together, and I was like, why didn't they do music together when they both were under q-tip
Mr MadSkillz the nostalgia
And rhats a comment..gooe to get flaaack...hahaba...mad skills..funn how time flies and you flew so you know...

Everybody got at least a few moments of jackassdom in their lifetime... rollin!
Cant keep running awaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Yo that beat on 3:14 damn that shit hit
Wow!
Nostalgiaaaaaa
Kick snare hard w/ little echo reverb hard to mistake
Where's the rest of the tapes I know it can't just be one I know it multiple tapes somewhere.
Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dont quote me but im pretty sure I heard the first beat in a de la soul album
🔥🔥🔥
WOW
Peace!
Yo Skillz do a cover to Runnin 🤷🏻♂️ why not 🎙️ let's go
Plays beat for a rapper... "next." Plays same beat two weeks later, "how come you never show me this bro?"
At least we know you would not have fought over the kick drum on the running beat
Ouch!!!
