- Historic never seen before rap battle between Mad Skillz & Supernatural for The New Music Seminar's Battle for World Supremacy out on by DJ Clark Kent & Superman, INC! Footage courtesy of Supernat. Below attached in the first comment is Mad Skillz's personal play by play of his perspective of the battle
I was in that crowd and I remember this legendary battle!! Happy you uploaded this important slice of Hip-Hop culture. Supernatural and Mad Skillz were the best of their day and could body most emcees out here in 2020!!
Don't also forget MC Juice
&DJ Freedom YA MEAN.........ALL OF THEM!!!!
was there too. one of the most legendary moments in hip-hop history imo.
DJ Freedom, how was MF GRIMMs set? Was he really dissin on the judges?
Who cares? Why compare artist of the past to present?
I forgot skillz had dreads...lol..much respect!!! this man has been doing this for years ...804 finest!!!
DAMN , I was 22 years old in 1993, lol, and was a major HIPHOP HEAD. Well, im still a major HIPHOP HEAD even today at age 48, lol... just a much more laid back mature one now,, lol
Damn u old
DWILL Williams 😂😂😂
I was 3
You're a hip hop veteran now. 😅
@IRON MIKE A mature one on St. Ides bruh bruh???🤷♂️🤷♂️ Ain’t Nothing laid back bout drinking them shyts🤣😂🤣 Bruh get on them Coronas or something!! Them shyts have you “Laid Back” Lol Salute to you thO for making it to 48 and being mature thO
Damn SuperNat with the Big Daddy Kane impression was fire!
Mad Skills never got the props he deserved
true indeed
Ya he did
Straight fuckin robbery
He was never that nice... just aight.
@@KtotheG Crazy son Skillz did burn out quick but he made a lot of rappers rewrite many a raps
my god, just unbelievable Supernatural and Mad Skillz. they both deserve much props!
Mad Skillz was cold back then, surprised his career never took off as a solo artist in the early 90's.
Skillz was much much successful than super Nat as far as a career and I thought Skill waxed him in this battle.
I think he really didn’t take off because he dropped his first album at the same time NAZ “It was written” came out and was unfortunately overshadowed by NAS.
he’s quite a successful ghostwriter
@@Twizzledoc187Well, you're kinda right been overshadowed
But, Skillz's first album was dropped the same day that 2Pac and Fugees respectively dropped "All Eyez On Me" and "The Score"
Awesome battle! I miss these days. Strictly lyrical skill and creative flows! Thanks for uploading this.
supernat = one of the best rappers off the dome piece EVER ...
Internationally known is a bomb ass song by him
Not “one of” but THE ONE.
I was there performing at the new music seminar. This battle was off the chain
ang zone was Jay-Z there?
Thx for dropping this. Respect from RVA
Dame Dash on the stage chillin SuperNat won that he was flowin , creative, punchlines , and rocked the crowd! A True freestyler ohhh and he was poised not like Madskills he was all hyped up.
I miss old school battles. Love the new stuff and no disrespect but there was something special about the tournament style battles from the past.
Fumes the Threat it’s not pre written, there’s a beat, and you have to be quick. This art is partially dead
@@Ape_In_His_Apex facts. I did the grind time DMV battle league and it wasn't as fun as freestyle battle events
a-6_grindtime off the top was the art form. The new stuff is cool but I wanna hear who can freestyle battle to a beat
Y’all should check out the Cold Crush Brothers vs Furious Five etc.
@@Ape_In_His_Apex saying it's dead is a paints a sort of negative connotation I would argue that the art form has evolved to higher levels just like how lyricism has evolved over the years plus back then they were battling to get deals nowadays it's a whole industry
To everyone saying is that puff... You do know they anounced who the judges were. Super Nat was a true freestyle rapper. Almost no one else improvs.
Skillz was always a Beast!.. I love that bol'.. that's one of VA's finest right there.. word life..
Mad Skillz & Pusha T; top tier lyricists all day.. Malice was monster too on the low.. dig?..
None of these incredible M.C.'s have ever gotten their proper recognition or respect in the industry. But, truth be told, records as good as they may have been, didn't do them justice. The best way to feel and see them at their best is in battles such as this.
Simple times crosscolors and karrl Kani - In living color and full house was on tv and people had to page you to get a hold of you
I was a lil boy. Still my best memorable times!
Preach
This when Skills took off ...... he came back to Richmond our home town. Then you couldn't tell him nothing. He hooked up with Missy,Timblerland and that was rap he still left out our other supper producer The Tones & Real Teddy Riley to 757.I like looking back at these battles because it's hip hop history at it's best.Peace to the Super friends
Teddy Riley is a Harlem, NY dude who relocated to that 757, so y'all can't claim him
@@mikeofdc Was just about to tell him lol.
@@bsinatra145 exactly bruh
@@mikeofdc Why not? NY try to claim J. Cole.
@@hitek9too255 never claimed him
This brings me back to The Source magazine from back in the day! They actually cover this battle.
Major props for sharing this gem!
mad skills won that
Mad Skillz posted this. Shaquan Lewis is Mad Skillz and he is who posted this. I would say it's an imposter like most copy names on RUclips can be, but if you look at the comment he left, you will see he even refers to himself in the first person there. Pretty badass he had this footage and put it up for us to revel in. Awesome stuff.
Yeah Mad Skillz was way better and he from VA and New York didn't wanna give it up to a VA Nigga when it came to Hip-hop back then
Super Nat was from Indiana, so why would N.Y.care who won?
@@Selrahc757 Mad Skillz was Dope but Nat from Indiana so NY ain't give a fuck lol I think they pick Nat cause he went off the head the entire time.I still felt like Skillz won thiough
@@Selrahc757 but Super Nat from Indiana. Your point is invalid.
Skillz a punchliner, but Supernat was the most Innovative of the two emcees.
You couldn't catch wreck if your name was mr. Bulldozer🔥🔥🔥
This was an amazing upload. A few random notes: Skillz looked so much different then. Supernatural's delivery changed drastically shortly after this battle (and improved). And the beats were straight fire.
i love how everybody was dressed, i really am an out of touch 40 year old still wearing baggy pants and Lo and getting funny old head looks from all them youngins in 2020
Me too and I love it, bro. I can't rock what headz are rockin these days.... I just flat out refuse lol
The Lo will never go.
@@themightyfp kids rocking gucci. In my day gucci made handbags
Facts bro .....fuck it though how your Jeans and sweats gonna be tighter than your girls jeans......not the move.....Baggy for life bro
Me too. 🤷🏾♂️
Gotta love the Skillz' yearly wrap-ups. He be throwing hella shots. Lol but Also props
Uncle Murda bit off skillz with the yearly rap ups
Coincidence Puff was a judge, because I believe Skillz ended up doing sum ghostwriting for him.
Matter of fact, I had a friend who saw Skillz perform live. I hear that Skillz actually says the names of the people he edited out of the recorded version of his song "Ghostwriter", when he performs live. I heard he says Puffs name as one of the people who owes him money for ghostwriting when he performs it live.
lethal5 flow There’s a video of him performing that song live floating around the internet, I’ve seen it. He def name drops Puff
Puff and Shaq definitely on that list
Supernat is super blessed the mic didn't cause feedback when he went passed the speakers
The illest freestyle battle ever would be krs one vs supernatural

@@jacobprice8048 who? You talking about Bambaata?
@@billykimber4463 😂😭😂😭
@@RedSun215 I'm serious, who is he referencing? Am I missing something?
@@billykimber4463 no I think you're right I think that's who he was referring to
Thank you for sharing this wonderful vid!!
Thanks Skillz. I've been looking for this for awhile.I heard about your battle with this cat back when it happened. Been following your career since then. (Back then I heard you got screwed out of the win.)
Mad skillz and drink champs brought me here I cant believe its footage of this great hiphop history
Oh my GOD! I'm Ralph Salas. My kid is outside?!
Very good, epic battle. It was so close that it should have gone to the Supreme Court.
Props to both MCs...but damn this was too close to call.
Wow...This Was Over 25 Years Ago...That Day Was Interesting For Me!!!
can tell there wasnt a bunch of money in rap yet...evveryone looks bummy lol

@@lamelwatson5132 yea ok..still look bummy
supernat with that straight off the dome shit kills it every time
You could tell it was 1993, with that sing-song style like that of Fu-Schnickens or Flava Unit, and the constant shifting stance with hand extended out. lol!

What is the beat that starts at 21.33? The first beat of the last round Super Natural raps on.
And now they woke him up with Uncle Murda diss.
wow..times have certainly changed since 1993
Skillz should’ve won that one, he was more direct
anybody got these instrumentals?
11:14 ahaha she kills it on this verse. mad skillz is hilarious. This video is great.
Yea xd
Skillz took this but ultimately won with a career in Hip Hop...
it's cool too freestyle but better 2 make Classic Songs..✊🏽
Dope battle - classic Hip-Hop right there. All the way down to how disorganized determining the 'winner' was.

Skillz!
havoc rapped in such a typical style for the day where supernatural kills it and still sounds fresh then and now
10:17 he mentioned “Staying in the World Trade Center, blew it up!” 😩 too soon?🤷🏻♂️
Yo i caught that too! Crazy!
Robert Rogers I’m glad. Surprised tf outta me 😂
There had been failed attempt to blow the world trade prior to this battle.
100whatitiz thank you for telling me, my bad I should have looked into it!
Like Biggie on "juicy" "blow up like da world trade..a born sinner..rememebr when I had to eat sardines for dinner". It was referencing a failed attempt from earlier.
This the bomb
I see you everywhere
@@mistalongname4674 yo i make moves
how did he know the world trade was gonna blow up
There was a world trade bombing in early 1993
Is that #PuffDaddy at 27:56 sitting as a judge?🧐 In 1993?😳
2koolken yes... this was Uptown Records Puffy tho...
I think Mad Skillz beat Supernatural. He had more creative punchlines. Supernat was just basically performing to the crowd. He didn't have enough disses.
Young Dame Dash in the cut sitting down
15:55 best 90 seconds of the clip.........
Supernatural was nasty.
Mad Skillz been dope for aeons 🔥🔥🔥 the originator for the *Yearly Rap up*
