- Ashes of Creation is an open world MMORPG set in a fantasy environment where you can choose different classes and races to adventure through with your friends. Intrepid Studios is the developer behind the game. They’re technically an indie studio, but their creative director Steven Sharif has a clear vision for his video game: Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game. He wants to put the massive back in MMO. Exploring dungeons, griding for gear, crafting armor/weapons, learning new spells, and competing in large scale PvP battles. High end PvE such as raids will mainly occur in the open world. Bosses will spawn and roam through the land. Are YOU ready to enter the world of Verra?

Great video, showing how in depth the animal breeding system is really highlights how much work they are willing to put in to all of their systems. Sure, not everything is going this level, but if warranted, they will be. I think if they are going to divide animal breeding into 4 sub-professions (Perhaps also Armor Smithing and Weapon Smithing) they should do this for ALL the professions. They should allow for 22x4 Professions and give us 4 Grand Masteries (no not 8), so that if someone wants to breed all animals, or craft all weapons or armor, they can.
Duuude yeah. I'm not opposed to that.
Ark had something similar. I loved the importance of Breeding mounts, dinos and warhorses for PvP and the impact it made and prestige it gave to own the best breed line. I really hope Ashes can bring that feel back.
Ark...my friends and I refer to that as "The Dark Times"...try breeding on a PvP server...soul sucking...Fun, but waaaayyy to involved and ultimately heart breaking... And glitchy...This game looks particularly terrifying as a time sync...I'm kind of curious how long it took to get to the Carolina Reaper and now the new X plant...doing this sort of genetics in the real world...I fear for the people who'll never see the sun again if this game delivers.
@@woscanl Oh I wont argue with that. Ark had plenty of issues when it came to systems being balanced for PvP.
I hope what Ashes will do will tend towards a fixed value so the deeper you go the less effective and efficient it will become. That way it'll self correct and also be less ridiculous when you get large breed lines. I feel like there's some good potential that you'd be able to do with a fertility stat and breeding a ton of beats of burden for war purposes. There are definitely people who love to do not much other than breeding if it is engaging and not just spamming "U"-Whistle like in Ark :P
I've never seen anyone else explained the Animal Husbandry system this way. Usually it's just telling us what Intrepid already told us or what the systems are but not how and why the systems work that way. Your friend telling you to incorporate your IRL career and knowledge was the best call after all.

The way Steven talked about their genetics made me think it might be possible for there to be a way to see the animals’ genetics through some high level animal husbandry building. If this were implemented, how would you think this would affect the complexity and fun of this profession? Would it make it less of a pain, or would it take away from the joy of experimenting and discovery?
Interesting idea. I think it might take some of the guesswork and trial/error out of it. Steven seems to be leaning the direction of learning through doing.

SWG had by far the best genetic engineering in a mmo the best creatures would cost millions of credits for each creature . My saber cat cost me over 20 million and my rancor was 35 million and they were both the best on the server and he wouldn’t sell any of the same . Wished more games would add that to the game.

Lets put it this way. Ffvii chocobo breeding was pretty deep and hard to master. This is exponentionally more complex than that.

This cleared up a bit of hesitation I had about animal husbandry. The fear was with it being such an in-depth system combined with being able to "cross breed" species that everyone and their mother would be going animal husbandry trying to make and sell kick ass mounts. Only having a few breeding attempts per animal as well as the genetic RNG should mean that even if there are loads of people in the profession, there is a chance to make some coin!
Also, having an intra-profession specialization (e.g. an additional level of specialization in husbandry) is such a good call. While mount ranchers will likely be the most popular and the most lucrative for BiS statted mounts that look cool, there will likely be consistent profit in livestock/beast of burdens specialization assuming mounts is highly saturated so you can still experience the depth of the system without feeling like nothing sells.
That's a great point with the steady income for livestock!

Hey! You can use any weapon with any class, but some will be more ideal than others. I mention it briefly in my combat video and I'll talk about it again in my next video.

I dont know, it just looks like yet another grind with time gating to me.
There will be a time component and some aspect of grind, but that's not where the challenge lies. The difficulty in this system will come from diligently keeping track of which traits your offspring have and how that relates to what your phenotypic goal is.
If horses can die they will be so expensive, otherwise i doubt it would take long until everybody has a pair of best horses and keep breeding them forever..
I dunno about that. There will also be BiS mounts for different functions like large scale pvp, resource running, PvE, etc.

You'd have to know the inputs to make it function so there would still be some work and figuring things out you'd have to do, but yeah AI could kill us all dude.

We don't know as much about farming still. IMO would actually be easier to have genetics with plants than animals. It's just more assets though.
