    I adore Cavs, I’ve had 3, but this is wrong. This cavalier is only 18 months old and has sired SEVEN litters (that we know of) already when it is recommended that they are at least 2 and a half before breeding. This is because the health problems associated with the breed can be fully tested for at that age.

    • @newcamomile
      @newcamomile Год назад +5

      That's concerning. To be honest, that cavalier looks like he's pretty healthy in terms of nose and skull shape/size etc but there is still such a problem with bracycephalic dogs in the Toy category. I'm absolutely not against breeding dogs but at some point a healthy nose and skull shape should take precedence over show-ring aesthetics - the exaggerated 'peke' faces are also not attractive anyway.

    • @r.u.entertained1849
      @r.u.entertained1849 Год назад +8

      @@newcamomile It's not the brachycephaly, Sophie is likely talking about the heart problems that are prevalent in Cavs. They're descended from quite a small stock of dogs and one of those dogs carried a genetic variant that causes severe heart issues which typically become apparent once they're fully mature. It's a breed that needs extremely aware breeding and diligent testing to be bred ethically, but they're also wildly popular show dogs in the UK and those interests are frequently at odds.

    i still find it hard to adjust with toy poodle reclassified under utility. im worried for the chihuahuas going in the way of german shepherds...i've been following dog shows in the us and the uk and i noticed the chihuahua's legs are preferred to be shorter these days than 10 years ago.

      A good, stable dog loves the focused attention that it gets from its owner/handler during training, or putting that training to use in competition. Dogs love the interaction.
