When I was a kid I cracked my head open running up the stairs to a water slide. Remember getting up and my best friend saying "I can see your skull" I remember running through the park looking for my mom while everybody watched in shock as a 7 year old ran around screaming and covered in blood ... nobody even helped me. I was getting out of a pool and somehow pulled off every toenail on one foot at the same time and scraped from above my knee to my toes. I was dying the water around the pool red and only then did a lady ask if I was chilling. But dude holy shit I’m glad you’re okay and living now Jesus christ

    @REDI2UM 2 года назад +3215

The whole point of a slide is so you can freely slip at an accelerating rate.
So if you're engineering a slide and the idea to add a cage *for safety* crosses your mind, to stop you from freely moving - that's the biggest indication the slide is already too dangerous.
Don't add something to remove the danger - just remove the danger so that you don't have to add stuff.

He's absolutely right. I used to love water slides. Right up until I went down one with a huge corkscrew. I had too much speed going into the corkscrew, and ended up on the roof of the tunnel. Only to not have enough momentum to get all the way over, so I just fell from the roof and slammed straight onto my hip. The corkscrew was the only part of the slide that was a full tunnel (the rest was a "halfpipe"), so if for some reason I'd been on the roofing as I came OUT of the corkscrew I could have been thrown from the slide entirely and dropped 50 feet into the parking lot next to the slide (which was on the edge of the park). After that, I swore never again...

The moment I saw that metal grate over the slide I was like, “oh shit-“. Humans have a grab instinct when falling, even in that short video you can see the kid at one point tries to grab the grate to slow themselves down. So even if you’re not accidentally throwing your arm through the grate a lot of people are probably gonna end up with dislocated shoulders and broken arms just from their survival instincts kicking in.

I can confirm it was the scariest ride i’ve ever been on in my entire life, and not just because it feels like you’re going to take flight on the way to the bottom. As you get to the top the entire building sways back and forth, but the worst part is by the time your at the top (about a 10 minute walk) the rafts are COVERED in duct tape on the seats, handles, and seatbelts. Most of the handles you grip on to are missing and the seatbelts were shit. you don’t want to be the person that chickens out and has to walk all the way back down and ruin it for the rest of your group. Horrible experience and i absolutely love rollercoasters and water slides. Wasn’t fun or exhilarating, just feared for my life. Being scared is one thing, ignoring obvious safety concerns is another. It was only a matter of time before something like that happened. RIP

So on any hot days you better have been wearing long pants because otherwise your skin was getting peeled off your body like an orange. If not for my friends (I only did double rides) I would not have set foot on those

The tube was completely filled with water with a current pushing you from the starting point towards the other end. You actually had to hold your breath for 18 seconds until you would be able to get to the surface again. I mean it had safety systems installed to be able to drain in 8 seconds but it still sounds horrifying. It has been removed because most people didn't want to go through obviously.
The same waterpark has this slide called X-Stream which has a trapdoor that you have to stand on which will open once the staff presses a button, this slide has had many accidents occur in the years that it has been in use.

When I was in middle school I got a job at the county fair, a friend and I were put in charge of the potato sack slide. Part of our job was that we had to put this lube/wax spray on the slide so that people don’t get stuck on it. HOWEVER, nobody told us how much to put on and after about 10 sprays we tested it out - only to find ourselves skipping every other hump and slamming into the slide going mach jesus, i think whatever slide this is probably had a similar situation happen where an employee wasn’t well trained and over waxed it.

Back in the summer 2016, I nearly drowned in Aquatica's Breakway Falls. idk if I'm exaggerating, but my first (and only) experience with that ride was the opposite of pleasant. For context, this slide is where they have you stand on a platform and then they drop the floor from beneath you and you go straight down the slide (they DO have a "normal" slide off to the side as an option for those who don't want to be dropped). They didn't allow me to wear my goggles or nose-clamp. They did the procedure where they tell you to cross your arms and legs. I had fun for only the first second until water immediately went into my eyes, blinding me. Water went into my nostrils, leaving me with only my mouth to breathe until my mouth was full of water half a second later. I basically had water go into every orifice on my face. Because of how fast I was going down the slide, the water that went into my mouth was propelled deep into my mouth and I couldn't spit it out until I got to the bottom of the slide. Basically, I couldn't breathe for the whole thing. Not to mention that the first half of the drop is in darkness. So yeah, it's dark, my eyes are full of chlorinated water, and I couldn't breathe. idk how so many people can handle that ride

I went down a cart slide in the mountains of Colorado a few years ago. it started raining as we got to the start area, which makes the breaks on the cart not work, but the person running it gave us the the ok to go. as me and my family of 4 over weight adults and 3 small children went down one after another on the 2 lane ride. half way down we realized the breaks weren't working and everyone started panicking obviously. it leads all the way down the mountain, and at the end all of us crashed together. my cousin jumped out of the ride before the end and broke her arm and got a concussion. my step brother, who was going down with my baby brother, was the first down and crashes into the tires ment to stop you incase this happens, but everyone else crashed into the carts sustaining minor injuries. some turns were tight with a "slow down" sign, and when we'd get there we'd have half our cart outside the slide almost flying off the mountain. if we were just a little bit less lucky someone could have easily died.

I rode the Speed Slide at Wet n Wild in Queensland, Australia when I was younger and I got off terrified and shaking. I LOVE thrill rides and water rides, ive never been afraid of any of them for i've always felt safe on them. I was tall and thin when I rode this slide and I went down it normally, didn't launch myself or anything as this one was already quite high and vertical. Anyone who looks up a pic of the slide can see that it has 3 humps and no safety railing on any sides, just slighty raised lumps on either side of you to "keep you in".
The first hump sent me into the air, and I landed my back on the railing, knowing that that scared me I tried to realign while still jettisoning towards the next hump as that hump launched me again, this time towards the side where you would literally just fly off.. no net anywhere, just ground and my head went over the side as i caught myself and then went down the rest of the slide.
It was like no more than 10 seconds on that slide and it still feels like it was an eternity. No one really saw it or approached me after and I was just exploring the park by myself at that point.. had to go sit down as my fuckin life flashed before me and I ended up slipping a disc. One year I slide down the closed one a couple times and felt a raised part that would scrap me whenever I went down. Thought nothing of it. A week later the slides were closed because a kid went down the closed one and his arm got scratched open by that one part. I have a story from my home-town around 2015 at our local swimming pool. The pool was usually very packed with all different ages: kids teens, adults. My friends and I used to love to go there during the summer as kids. At the pool there was a water slide (there was only one) that had you walking up about 50-60 feet leading to a twist and turn U-shaped water slide. It was always super fun for me and my friends to have competitions on this slide to see who could go the fastest down. And, this slide went fast, like too fast. I was always really anxious when going down too fast because at times you would find yourself hitting a sharp turn going wayyy too fast and half of your body would be out of the slide. One day when my friends and I were there, we were waiting in line to go down the slide. A dad and his daughter (around 3-4 years old) were ahead of us in line and were preparing to go down together. The lifeguard gave them the thumbs up and they headed down. We couldn't really see them too well once they reached about a 1/3 down the slide but we had a good view of them going down at first and they started at a very fast pace. About halfway down the slide theres a turn that usually was the one I was timid about since it was so sharp and the speed that you could gain was insane. But, when they got to the turn the dad lost control of his daughter, and she ended up completely soaring away from the slide and falling close to 20-30 feet into the ground. Ambulances rushed to the pool and the whole place was in terror as to what just happened. Luckily though, the little girl was okay, but broke her arm and had a major concussion as a result. Just shows that water park slides or any slides for that matter are no joke lmao.

I usually enjoy waterslides, but I still remember going to a waterslide in a waterpark here in my country, and I swear I felt like the water was dragging me up once the waterslide ended, I had to hold on so tight to the railing. Cant say I really like waterparks either

I think you can add those down hill carts to the list of dangerous attractions. You know the ones that has you ascend a steep hill like on a rollercoaster and, at the top, you plunge down a steel slide with no steering, no protective guardrails around the track. All you have is a handbrake and your own sense of self preservation as you descend at speed. And all the while, you're worried about the bloke behind you catching up as you are too afraid to go even faster to widen the gap. Why yes, I am speaking from experience.

Yeah alpine slides can be pretty sketchy. Especially after seeing that video of the guy who just absolutely raged and broke that woman’s back on purpose.

I once did a waterslide that was open top, and it went down in this wavey pattern. Not even joking I almost flew out and over the side of it at about what felt like 20-30ft in the air and died. It was my first experience with a waterslide and somehow it didn't make me scared of them... but I don't trust slides that one anymore x)

Not gonna lie as a kid I always worried about that. I was a small kid so I wasn’t worried about it happening to me, but I saw a lot of average sized and heavy set adults almost go off the edge a few times. Those slides always bothered me in that regard

The slides I hate the most are metal slides. One time I went on a metal slide during summer and it was scorching hot and impossible to slide down. Idk why places still use them.
