Soham gosh ..I don't totally agree with your statement cause in Indian movies they depict a piece of imagination in the form of these dances and songs and some of these " random dances " that you stated take place in festive situations like weddings and other festivals . But there are a lot of places where there is unnecessary dancing and I don't have a reason why. What I am trying to say is don't put down the whole Indian film industry jus because of some movies . Some of these so called " random and unnecessary dances " are used as a form of depicting enjoyment and love.

Yeah western people do dance on their weddings on 1 or 2 function like bachelor party *but* we indians have freaking 5-6 functions in our weddings.

Indian movies have specific music not dancing, in India musicians share their talent via movies more than albums. She was absolutely correct on that Indian movies always have a soundtrack and mostly they have lyrics that's is why every Indian movie have a music director as well as a lyricist. It's not like they just break out dancing, Americans would be in awe of the use of music we do in our movies. And the use of dance is very justified in our movies. It's never like u just break out dancing.
lol what are you talking? In all our movies, they break out dancing all of a sudden. hero meets heroine, a dance. hero gets upset on the loss of relationship, a song and some dance, hero hugs heroine for some reason, a dance. dance actually takes away the continuity of the story in our movies and has no reason to be there for plot development unless it actually covers some plot related stuff like that Dangal song where they show us the training etc.

Lets here suggestions then? Dont give me one or two movies. Give me a good number coz we make a ton of movies so there should also be a ton of good movies right? Also I am looking for movies where there are no dances in the middle without any meaning unless they contribute to the plot.
And on a side note, do we have any good movies that can compete with say some of the best that anime has to offer? I personally liked Japanese anime ever since I have discovered them and I feel that they are superior to our movies. Ever since I found out about anime, I've just lost respect for our Indian cinema. Can you help me get it back? There are of course very few good movies but not enough if we consider the sheer number of movies we make every year. I liked Dangal very much if you think I am just being biased.
@@blasttrash what do you have to say about RRR, Vikram, Ponniyin Selvan? Malayalam and Tamil movies have movies that anime cannot compete with. Anime is pretty average. Same story. But the reason for why they feel different is because their visual style and treatment is different. Story is simple, same and at the most average. Only Studio Ghibli movies are consistent in good content. For me Indian movies are miles better than average and mid anime. Only some anime are really great. Rest of them are pure trash.
@@aasamspb967 Very convenient that all the movies are recent while my comment was 4 years ago. Movie directors are taking risk in India and its paying off. For example in RRR, except the last song, all songs are not wasting time, they are contributing to the story one way or another. This is not that common in many of our movies. 2.5 hours of precious time and we have songs that dont contribute to the end story whatsoever. That alone says the kind of mindset most of our Indian directors have. They just want to create some masala, item songs to please everyone, not to tell a story.
Also most movies in general cannot compare to longer form of stories like anime, manga, manhwa, novels etc. Because there is more real estate(aka time) to develop characters. Even in RRR(which was such a great movie), the villain Scott wasn't given much background. He is villain by virtue of requiring such a character in our story.
Obviously in any medium(Anime, Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood, Korean etc) you will find good content if you search for non-mainstream stuff.
But that said most of the mainstream anime are way way better than most of the mainstream stuff that our country makes. Most mainstream movies in India are about stupid romance, 5-6 songs, 5-6 comedy scenes, 2-3 fight scenes, and same story woven by a light and thin thread and just throw in a famous actor/actress and ride the coattails of his/her fame. Its all one dimensional. Only very few movies are good as standalone movies(like the ones you mentioned).
There is a reason why anime, manhwa, kdramas etc are being watched across the world even when people don't know those languages, even when people don't have any preconceived biases/liking towards a particular actor/actress.
In fact, this is also the reason why RRR became so famous in the WEST regardless of the language. they dont care who SSR is or who Ram Charan/NTR are.
They should have put up a montage of some of her dance numbers.
Jimmy is the clear definition of people who just talk to others based on stereotypes and not research or study about other cultures.

You know what honestly? It's our bloody wish! We will dance, sing and do whatever we want with our movies. We like it. I believe, as long as we don't hurt or offend anyone, what's wrong with what we do? Unless you (rest of the world) are producing our movies and are losing money because of our music and dance, you got no business judging our stuff.

You should see another segment as well of this same interview where he keeps telling Priyanka how she smells great more than once and there is a slight undertone to it that gives away his condescending intent. I guess you are a smart person so you can figure out why he keeps telling her she smells great. We can all say he just meant "she smells great" but come on, we all know it :D It's too obvious. You should see Jimmy's reaction when she says "Come on, you guys just had La la Land come out" as she was clearly annoyed but was being nice about it. I won't say Jimmy was being racist but was he at least acting ignorant? If you look at it factually, even then yes, he was acting ignorant. That is not an opinion, it's a fact and there's no excuse for acting ignorant, specially in 2017 and he is supposed to be big TV show host. When your average Joe knows more about India than your TV show host then it's clear the host is in fact acting ignorant. Come on now..way too obvious XD

I think I know why he does this. He is over compensating for something that he lacks by trying to act like this and like you said many people have noticed that too. The era of condescending hosts died with David Letterman. Hosts nowadays are genuinely nice and entertaining. For example when I look at other TV hosts like Jimmy(although his weird laughs), Conan, Craig, Corden and Norton, they all joke here and there but they don't have that annoying aura of condescending nature to them or not anymore at least.
It was popular to act like that back in the 90s but that thing has died. I don't know why he thinks it's cool still and yes, I've noticed he does that a lot to other people as well. It's not fun to watch at all :D
it's good that the new generation of hosts don't have that fake laugh some hosts now (especially graham Norton ) if you tell a bad joke he would comment on it and address it unlike people like Kimmel who will laugh with the joke and try to get the interview over with.

I was expecting to hear an Indian accent but she speaks a very well and flawless English. She’s very pretty too
She is right it's in some way reflective of our culture where people love to dance on different kinds of festivals and parties. But also, we have songs when two lovers fantasise themselves together, in a lovely surrounding (perhaps, hills or beaches, etc), expressing their love through beautiful poetic lyrics. And I think it's VERY CREATIVE. It's an original idea of India. The feelings and emotions are poured through a variety of tunes (highlighting the mood of the characters) and lyrics. It's a great way to make a certain mood/emotion impactful and memorable for audiences. It's a great way for directors to emphasise on the emotions/parts of the movie they want to. We can approach 'this original idea of ours' with more perfection I believe. I love Priyanka, especially her confidence. ❤

well Indian weddings last for 3 to 7 days. so ends up having more dance and song. Also, Indian festivals tend to be long and mostly involve singing and dancing outside. (check out Holi, Diwali, etc in wikipedia) Unlike western festivals which are more personal and family oriented.
