The only reason people thought "Never Gonna Give You Up" was bad was because his video was posted not only during an age where Nu-metal (which some people don't really look back on fondly) was the main line, but also because he was ever present and his video was a silly prank, so people never really listened closely. The man makes genuinely good music. He always did. You're just older and can appreciate it now. When you get down to it, the charts never mattered. They were based on who payed the most and shilled their songs the most. What matters is what you think is good, to experience your own personal heaven through your own tastes.

I know this has been said so many times, but I love how Rick's voice is the center of attention in all of his songs, with the background only taking over for transitions and really blending in. All his songs are masterpieces, whether I like them or not. Great job, Rick!

Yeah, I can definitely see Rick Astley having a bigger legacy than being a meme, had he not retired too early.
