You're an actual moron if you think that's the issue. Comedians make things up all the time for stand-up, but Hasan Minhaj is an activist first, comedian second. He tried to pass off flat-out lies, one of them bordering on harassing to a woman he smeared as racist despite being married to an Indian man, to become successful. Hasan Minhaj is a fraud and any idiots still giving money to him should be mocked just like Jussie Smollett.

Except it isn’t a tabloid and by right idea expected to hold itself to a higher standard.
Also, these interviews are typically recorded and it would be very odd for the participant not to have access to them, they just don’t get to control what happens with them.
So, essentially, it’s an example of TNY taking a shot at the wrong person to mess with and not about an occurrence of extraordinary diligence.

Also you claimed the parents said they couldn’t have you come over cause they were taking family photos. Then in the audio recording you admit that it was basically a vibe of racism. Then to bolster your claim you showed an email in which this lady said her parents had grown. She probably said that cause you told her that her parents said you weren’t allowed in because you were Indian when in fact it’s because you got the vibe they were racist. lol you didn’t disprove anything. It’s probably another lie. Why would you show up to a girls house who don’t date and get mad when they say they are busy doing family photos?!!! Weird also one last thing. Yo don’t pretend your Indian parents would be cool with you dating some other than Indian. lol your proof is “oh well I felt someway about being able to interrupt a family event so it must be cause I’m black *cough cough* I mean brown but i pretend to be black cause I like hippy-hop and I’m a total sneakerhead y’all feel me?” Dude even if the story about the parents is true which why would I believe you? It’s literally a he said/she said situation and I’m sure that girl feels sorry if that did happen but just cause you sent a couple of friendly emails. What do you expect for her to hold a grudge and call you a lair? She more or less says thanks for the email, hope all is well. I think I respect him even more. Honestly prior to this “exposé” any reasonable person would expect, and even require, that his standup should be loosely based in reality to not only protect those he talks about, but to enhance the clarity of complicated stories without rambling. He is a comedian doing standup, it is his job to not loose the audience and to evoke laughter. The fact that he is actually as close to reality as he is without endangering his former gf/family is actually super impressive. He’s consistently above and beyond in logic and emotional sway for his genre.

It is the stories he tells about harassment and race growing up which are a part of his racial identity and narrative he has publicly built about himself. The racism he experienced was never that extreme and it is stupid to tell us a false story of he and his wife going to the ER for an anthrax scare or some crap like that. I am also Indian American and grew up in a similar way as him, and did experience some mild racism as he did (as most people colour probably have) but I do not make up random tearjerking stuff to tell others. I'm saddened he was not authentic but chose the "embellishments" which is basically falsifying the narrative. His "stories" have put him a position of having to defend his own stupidity and cost him a lot. In life, reputation is key.

Video games were getting a bad rap at the time, so I thought FINALLY I can share how cool and interesting these games can be. How naive I was. To my dismay, i read the article and found the reporter heavily edited my quotes to promote a piece about video game addiction. Storytellers do this all the time.
As long as you're not changing the essence of what was said by adding or omitting key details or context, then it's just about wrapping the story like a gift so other people can receive it.

I know comics who have sold their personal life stories to other comics to tell on stage because they thought their friend told it better and would get bigger laughs. The idea that Fox "News" can run around and lie repeatedly and then defend themselves in court by saying "nobody in their right mind would believe anything we say... it's obviously entertainment not news" (paraphrasing) and the New Yorker is ok with that... but they think it's a worthwhile endeavor to fact-check comedy shows because by everything holy, we can't have comedy shows that aren't 100% factual is so absurd that you have to wonder what the New Yorker's agenda is. Specifically, did they do this fact-checking to any other comics, or just the Muslim one who ate Trump's lunch at the correspondence dinner?

Probably because of his show "Patriot Act". Hasan is way different than other comedians. He doesn't shame or make racist or sexist jokes towards any community. Instead his jokes are situational based in truth, making us think act as responsible citizens what we can do to make the world a better place. He is not biased and presents the truth. It shows his integrity. He can't be bought to portray either of the sides. Plus he is brown so that is another agenda for some people. Not all people of course. If this was UK, Newzealand, or Germany his integrity and hard work would be way more appreciated.

As an NYT article pointed out, some comedian said "everything I say is a lie, including my opinions". Meanwhile Hasan Minhaj makes a whole career of "this really happened to me" and when it turns out that it actually didn't, he doubles down by calling it "emotional truth". Note how even in this video, he didn't just say "it's comedy, it's not supposed to be true". Instead, he spends the whole video trying to prove that what he said in his shows was in some way true.

As a photo journalist what concerns me is the fact that Hasan Minhaj’s side of the story never saw the light of day in the New Yorker article. It was twisted beyond recognition to deliberately spin a totally different narrative. I’m not so naive to believe that people tell the truth ALL OF THE TIME, especially when people in the politics and the media, where lying has become their stock in trade but this is a prime example where someone on the left of the political spectrum when telling the truth, or at least their version of the truth, to someone on the right, where truth is instantly flipped and turned upside down to spin an opposite narrative. This happens all the time when people on the left attempt to speak their truth to people on the right. Irrespective of whether people on the left lie or not, the end result is the same, to people that n the right, they are not to be believed. Meanwhile those political pundits and agents on the right are not only expected to lie but accepted as liars, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump being two prime examples of professional liars made “good”. We really do live in the era of the inside out, especially God forbid, if you’re a good person trying your best to do good in the world. Hasan didn’t furiously attack those who told falsehoods about him; he maturely, calmly, and honestly explained the truth, what happened, and how he was made to look this way, and, explained to us all what wasn’t exactly factual. There are so many people in the world who can’t take any (even minor) criticism this well, (not that I’m great at it myself yet, but I am working on it), and I truly think the world would be a better place if we could all take criticism, no matter how harsh, like this. I have adored Patriot Act since it came out and have rewatched the entire show several times. I recommend it to my friends and family often because each episode is relevant to all of our lives in one way or another, and at the very least, each episode reminded me to keep learning, keep researching, keep reading, keep growing, keep adjusting my perspective, and to always keep an open mind. Thank you Hasan. You have empowered young people like myself to continue to learn and grow in productive yet fun ways as we try to fight against the depressing realities of the world.
