  • This is one of my best and easiest homemade catch and let go or catch and release mouse traps. Easy to build, easy to bait, easy to release and best of all it's humane and there's no springs or levers to wind up or load. The mouse or vole cannot escape or chew his way out of this catch and release mouse trap. Mice are not harmed in any way during capture or release. As a matter of fact, the mouse or vole remains very calm since there is no slamming doors or snapping latches to scare them. Mice can be captured, released and let go calmly and easily without fear of getting bitten, even by the most fearful of mice person. Simple operation makes this diy homemade catch and let go vole mouse trap fun and easy to build and adjust for easy trapping and capture and best of all easy release. Just use a dab of peanut butter to bait the mouse trap. It's the best do it yourself homemade humane live release and let go vole mouse trap you'll find! A 2L bottle and a few other common items is all you'll need. I'll be building a humane squirrel trap next so you can capture and release squirrels easily too so subscribe and don't miss my upcoming diy humane squirrel trap. Thanks for watching. I also have a diy humane rat trap coming soon too!

      Most traps when working properly kill instantly....the mouse never feels pain. I tried humane traps before but ne er seen one catch anything. This trap looks neat and I'd buy one if sold. But I'm not very crafty. But if I did release a live mouse I would take it several miles from my home in a wooded area. Letting it go outside your house, it's just going to turn around and go right back in your house.

    I made this and it worked the first day!! Letting it go in the woods was the best feeling Ever!! I found the hole behind the water heater and patched it. Since then, whenever I hear chewing in the walls, I put 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil on the top part of a cotten ball, and place it next to the baseboard, near the sound, with the essential oil part of cotten ball facing up, so it doesn't stain the floor. The peppermint needs to be refreshed periodically because the smell fades. Over the course of 2 years, all 3 times that I have done this, the chewing sounds stopped immediately. Another You Tuber demonstrated a real mouse entering a Store Bought plastic catch and release cage and when the mouse entered the cage trap, the cage door slammed behind him and slammed down on his tail. Even though it was a plastic door, it still hurt. The poor mouse quick grabbed his tail and started licking it because it hurt, so please make THIS humane trap here with the bottle and don't buy the one I mentioned from the store. As you can see from the beginning of the video, this one dosen't hurt their tail. Thank you ! Thank you so much for inventing this humane catch and release trap and for sharing it on You Tube!!

    After six successful captures (and one escape), I somehow decided to make a second trap. That night, both traps were cleaned of their peanut butter without any prisoners. It seemed to me that the most likely escape plan was the mouse using its paws and/or teeth to "scale" the blocking wall, pulling the bottle up until the mouth cleared. I modified the design slightly, taping a magnet to the neck and attaching a small metal sheet to the base; when the bottle was tipped, the magnet held it down firmly. We caught the energetic and tenacious "Miika," who will join our family as a pet.

    • @rhymereason3449

Within about 10 seconds of putting the trap on the floor in the room our friend had claimed for himself, the little guy was there sniffing around for some snacks. 30 seconds later and he was trapped. Took 20 mins to make the trap with basic tools. Genius. The bendy wire design that lets you tweak everything until it's just right is spot on. There a couple of extra things worth knowing. Firstly you need to release your mouse a long way from your house - 2 miles or 3 km. Secondly you need to be quite patient when you do so - your mouse may be in no hurry to leave its new home

    I made a trap like this after watching this video. About an hour ago, I checked to see and sure enough, there was a little guy in there going to town on a wad of peanut butter. I excitedly called to my husband and claimed I had caught one. He didn't believe it would work. He got there just in time to see the mouse escape with no problems whatsoever. It only needs a small adjustment, but you'd think my husband had just won every argument we have ever had. I have faith though. It's a great idea, I just need to work on it some more.

    My cat caught a field mouse and (sadly) paralysed its back legs. I kept him in a tank for a couple of weeks in my workshop where he miraculously recovered. So much so that when I turned my back for a second he escaped into the shed where he's been for a few days, happily eating food I put down for him.
    Trouble is I don't want my cat catching him again cos I don't think he'll get so luck this time around so I was about to buy a humane trap online - until I saw this :-)
    Subscribed and I'll be buying a big bottle of fizzy drink tomorrow to get the build started! And keeping my cat out of the workshop until I can catch the escapee! Thanks for the video, great fun.

      Update: caught Houdini my escapee mouse the 1st night I used this trap :-) Put him back into the tank prior to releasing him...walked out into the countryside, GoPro running to let him go...and the tank was empty. Discovered that he'd eaten his way through the plastic at the top - which is how he got out in the first place.
      Set the trap again last night and there he was in the morning inside the bottle, a bit wet and sorry for himself. He's now in the warm hay in a repaired and strengthened tank :-)
      Thanks again Chris - your design also inspired a mate of mine to make one too.

    10 sep 2016
    YES! It worked!
    I had a wild house mouse show up in the downstairs of my house last night (9 sep).
    I'll call it a he; that's what the Dutch do.
    So right away I started searching online for mouse traps and came across this video. The mouse kept coming out and running along the floorboards, so it didn't take me long to decide to go to the trouble of building the trap.
    While I was building the trap, he kept coming out and when I moved toward him, he would run back into the closet where I finally figured out he was hiding. I looked inside the closet and he had already pooped like crazy in the floor of the closet.
    I rarely ever drink soda so I didn't have any 2L bottles lying around, but I found an unopened bottle of Diet Pepsi in the door of the old downstairs fridge that someone had probably bought about a year ago and I dumped the soda down the drain. No loss there.
    After I finished making the trap, around midnight, I set it up along the floorboard where he was running. Then I went upstairs, but at first he followed me upstairs! and into the kitchen and the living room! I guess he thought I was going to feed him or something?
    Once he ran back downstairs, I blocked the bottom of the doorway so that he couldn't come back upstairs again. Then around 2 am I went to sleep on the upstairs couch, wondering whether the contraption I built would even work. I thought he would probably find a way to get out, since there was still a slight gap between the opening and the piece of wood and I was also afraid the bottle might loosen at the point where the crossbar was attached. Or that he wouldn't take the bait. (In addition to a smear of peanut butter, I had also eventually added a few tiny slivers of Gouda into the bottom of the bottle to entice him further.)
    Around 6 am, I woke up and skeptically checked downstairs, but there he was! trapped in the bottle! I was amazed! It worked! I don't know about him remaining "very calm." He was squeaking like mad and had pooped like crazy, but had only managed to knock one little tiny ball of hard poop out of the bottle.
    0:59 "He can't climb up the side of the bottle because it's so slippery." Yes, he can. Once you pick it up, he can climb up onto the crossbar and try to jump out through the bottle opening, so make sure to hold the bottle so that the block of wood is still blocking the opening. I had to shake him loose from the crossbar and then I placed the bottle cap back on the bottle. Then I removed the bottle from the crossbar, where he sat in the bottom of the bottle, wallowing in his own poop.
    Once I pulled the bottle from the crossbar, he had pooped so much, I decided there is no way I will ever re-use the bottle. I can just as easily re-fit a new bottle of soda if I ever need to catch another mouse again. As far as I can tell, he was a solitary house mouse who had worked his way into the house somehow.
    House mouse (Mus musculus) conservation status: LC (least concern).

    • @chrisnotap
      @chrisnotap  7 лет назад

      That's quite a story!! It works every time. They go into it without hesitation. Just fill the bottle with water and let it sit a while to soften the stuff in there then reuse the bottle again.

    • @brucenator
      @brucenator 7 лет назад +1

      Well... of course I was wrong. There is a second mouse which has shown up at different times of the day and night. First time was around lunch time; other times he has shown up at night. This one is sneakier and speedier than his cousin. And unlike the former, who was hiding out in a closet, I can't determine where this one has taken up residence. He leaves his droppings wherever he pleases.
      I don't know about them going in without hesitation. Apparently this one is smarter and more cautious than his cousin. For two nights now I have set the trap, but he has not taken the bait. I used peanut butter, as well as cheese in the bottom, just like before. Maybe this one saw his cousin get trapped the first time and he is not about to follow in his footsteps? Anyway, after two nights, I am thoroughly disgusted. I think I'm going to have to convert to a more traditional mouse trap. Any suggestions?

    • @leonardalawes6623
      @leonardalawes6623 7 лет назад

      I believe you are right. mice and rats seem to be pretty smart. in my experience the same method often is not effective against family & friends who saw or heard his distress. I wonder if using a different color bottle the next time would seem different enough. awesome idea! when I had a mouse problem, I constantly had to change up my attack. They were hanging out cuz I had birds & they were eating the food too! I caught a couple in glue traps, then not a singe one more tho I'd still see them! eventually I caught a couple of babies who hadn't been warned or taught. I also wondered if they learn to associate THAT smell with danger! I used peanut butter too! when I used regular traps, I'd catch maybe 2 & then none all week again! (and meanwhile they were breeding!) I'd love to hear how this turns out for you! seriously, try a different color bottle & different bait. if you caught the first one while sleeping, you gave his cousin plenty of time to be onto your tricks! I had to use every method I could come up with to get rid of my problem. Thanks Chris for one more in case there is a next time!
