BLACK STAR // LYRICS
A thick shroud of death covers me like a blanket of lead
Panic!
The black star shines a light into the void, into the void
And hysteria!
Tightening their grasp
A sensation like drowning
Grips me inside, grips me inside
Stealing my vivacity
Grips me inside, grips me inside
A thick shroud of death covers me like a blanket of lead
Terror!
The black star shines a light into the void, into the void
And trepidation!
Tightening their grasp
The parading of horrors
Grips me inside, grips me inside
Draining my vitality
Grips me inside, grips me inside
Bringer of the night
Extinguisher of the light
Beckoned by the black flame
Drawn to its chaos
Violently descending, our thoughts betray us
A thick shroud of death covers me like a blanket of lead
Panic!
The black star shines a light into the void, into the void
And hysteria!
Tightening their grasp
A sensation like drowning
Grips me inside, grips me inside
Stealing my vivacity
Grips me inside, grips me inside
Beckoned by the black flame
Drawn to its chaos
Violently descending, our thoughts betray us
Bringer of the night
Extinguisher of the light

These guys are liars, I saw them live, and they all have faces. 0/10
Maxwell Brown How did you manage to see them live?
LOL
A man want's you to think he as a face, yet he is no one!
This......is....funny.....
xDDD
i dig this
Misha Mansoor I dig you ;)
Misha Mansoor Suh dude
suhhhhh senpai ❤
Notice me, senpai. But for sure. I hope then next drop from them is filled with this kind of goodness.
If you and Keene ever composed together it would be like two peas in a pod. I hope that's happening in some parallel universe...
This band will always be one of my all time favorites. They're nothing but fantastic.
good single, can't wait for the next one in two years!
haha
me too and the new bass.. xD
young savage why u savage the faceless so hard
lol'd
S & D lol
This has been released years ago but even after hundreds of listens, I keep coming back to thinking how great of a master piece this is.
This whole album is really something special.
I think this is really best Metal song ever. Meshuggah is also very good, like Demiurge or Bleed, but this voice, lovely. 😍
Same here brotha same here
*Black Star appearing on:*
"ALBUM NAME AND RELEASE DATE MAYBE??"
*Summer Slaughter*
god dammit
Skudd Butt the new album is going to be called "in becoming a ghost"
Skudd Butt Keene said after the tour probably. I'm guessing around August. By December at the latest.
Yeah.... no new album soon. Sadly. It's been so long
Street date for the new record "On Becoming a Ghost" is sometime in august
Did i not hear recently that it had been done for a while already?
Thank you for anyone that supports and thank you to anyone NOT talking shit. I love you guys.
Sincerely,
Chason (drums on this song and record)
And people with legit issues with the record can just fuck off? The drums aren't the problem dude. It's like listening to someone pour out a bucket of ball bearings onto an ice skating rink, so fucking harsh.
damn sound sampled
@@tristanclose5803 yup
I am an old fart who knows very little of modern music. I love Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Morbid Angel. But surely this has to be one of the best albums in the 2010s. The modern metal, growls, clean singing, 80s Depeche Mode influence, dark symphony orchestra sounds… so versatile and complex, yet it flows so naturally and effortlessly. The songs are great and nothing seems to be used excessively. Never heard anything like it before. Wonderful album.
If you haven't heard Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West, I heavily recommend it. I often flip between these two albums
YESS
Only real fans can comment. Im on to you. Lol
the tourless
Bill Nanos the techless
The releaseless
the oceaness
the cynic-less xdddddd
the gear - less :v
There on tour?
I love Michael Keenans voice! I wish he sang more actually. Just saw these guys play here in Mesa Arizona. Such a great show nee players in the band did a great performance. Black Star is one of my favorites
Michael "Just the tip" Keene
lmao best comment
haha the tip of the needle right? cus hes a heroin addict and thats why they cancelled their shows
Keene has too much flubber to be an opiate addict. That's just a rumor.
Frank Cronin what does that mean, too much flubber?
If he was as addicted to heroin as people are saying he would be noticeably thinner than he was before.Cory Cox
I was not ready for it...
holy shit
the faceless finally went full prog
I think Autotheism kind of pointed into that direction though. It was inevitable.
They explore new horizons
This is it, this is why they had to cancel the tour; totally worth it.
yea this was a natural progression for him
you never go full prog
Cynic mode: on
first thing i thought of with first riff. Cynic vibes.
Reza Felayati keen definitely isn't afraid to pop the cynic mode on.
keen isn't afraid to rip off anyone. devin townsend, opeth, cynic
Reza Felayati yaaaa i hear
At the level that his playing at, knowing his background. I mean he
comes from family of musicians.
Despite his personality and whether anyone likes him or not, he is
capable of playing anything and I'm personally glad that he keeps his
inspirations from really great artists.
He could become another "rock'n'roll let's party because nothing else
matters", He is trying to create something bigger. For better or worse
We as listeners can only benefit from it
As person that loves old and new Opeth, i do enjoy clean vocals that are clearly
inspired by Mika.
In one hour Richard Mauricio Will cover that...
ROFL
More like 5 days
Ruben Death lol! He did!
I can never understand how Richard's channel is as under-appreciated as it seems.
Despite of all the drama, The Faceless can still bring it. Shiiiiiit!
Ben B I heard the drama toned down alot and the band is getting along at that "musical family" level according to Keene.
And Bobby Brown never hit Whitney.... according to Bobby.
Ben B despite all the negative press covfefe
Ethan And Nik hahahaha fuck I didn't see that coming
Ethan And Nik Praise Kek
Kick drum volume 11
The first time I listened to this, I had my volume almost cranked through the headphones....Those kick drums are more brutal on the ears than a click track rolling at 100% volume. Love the song as a whole, but I really hope they remix the drums a bit. Add some more low end to the kick drums with EQ'ing, and reduce the poppy trigger sound/over-compression. Still a better mix then I could ever dream of throwing together....The bass in this track sounds killerrrrr.
Is it because they put the bass under the kick in the mix?
Holy shit that sound designing is impeccable
I like how the bass sounds in this mix
HELL YEAH! been waiting for a long time for new the faceless!
dank nice profile pic
How's b town? does hubby won there?
Sorceron's vox are so sick. Stoked as fuck on this
Matthew Boyd thought this was just a joke till I realized it actually was sorceron lol
Between this song and Revocations Strage and Eternal - the story the King in Yellow makes for some amazing songs
For those of you expecting the same style as before, remember they could have easily gone full TEE HEE, but they chose not to, and we must be grateful for that.
These cleans were amazing!
Thank fuck they werent teehee :\
do u like spaceghostpurrp
The faceless, despite cancelling tours lately can drop a new song. Unhappy Australian.
Meh, I bet they had it recorded like around a year ago.
Yorick Mori Recording for everything but Mike's vocals were finished in 2016. Heard an unmixed version without any of Mike's vocals last year. The album's pretty fucking good (although one track has me worried, there were almost no vocals from Ken, and it sounded almost old school Periphery-ish in the riffing, so I'm concerned with how Mike's vocals will sound on that particular track).
The Faceless is and was ahead of time...still is.
The more I listen to this song, the more I like it. There's a lot to appreciate here.
Still upset I won't be getting a new album with Demon Carcass but the new screams are good.
The clean vocals sound like Demon Hunter!
The Drumming is astonishing
Gnarly new track. Dude from Abigail Williams nailed it \m/
The intro instantly reminded me of Necrophagist. That's a good thing hahah The Faceless has changed a lot over the years but they've never let me down! Been a fan over a decade!
This is Ken Sorceron right? He fits the band really well IMO
He is a great metal vocalist that is for sure. Abigail Williams - Final Destiny of the Gods. Absolutely incredible song man.
F l o o d s
T h o
he's great, i still laugh every time i hear his name though XD
Abigail Williams went so fuckin hard
Did they cancel yet?
7th of July in Germany is legit cancelled, yes...
Could be a number of reasons why this is happening. It may not even be there fault
They have never cancelled Summer Slaughter Tour.
God dont Jinx me. Im seeing them in Atlanta on the 3rd of August!
eyyyyyy me too
This is dope, I can't wait for them to not be there to play it at Summer Slaughter!
ahahaha, good ones. this will never get old
Necrossady best comment
Couldn't believe it when I saw this in my feed!
THE CYNICLESS
They've always been the Cynicless :D That's the best thing about them, lol.
i dig sorcerons vocals
I'll be super duper surprised if we see a full album within the next 2 years but hey this is neat
Manchild well 2 songs in 2 years so give them another 16 years and they'll have the album released.
Manchild Album's 100% done, but the band is uncertain if it's even going to come out.
sounds like programmed drums to my ears but keene tone keeps getting better and better and i love the orchestral arrangements
i'm simple man. i see faceless, i click the video
euro snuke yeah. dont care how many years pass
Haha. Yeah I felt something I haven't felt in a while. Rings of Saturn songs coming soon too. Guess I'll live a bit longer.
+euro snuke You and I seem to like similar music because I see your comments everywhere!
Kristoffer Larsson my brother ♥ this is happening almost every month if not weekly :D how you doin mate?
Haha awesome :D I'm doing good man! Finally some sun up here in the north which I enjoy a lot! Beer + sun = win :D How are you?
As a fan of Cynic, Opeth, EXTOL, BTBAM, or even.. Dream Theater, i have zero problem with their clean vocal since planetary duality.
there was some cleans on PD too. Coldly Calculated Design.
It's not only that, he makes good cleans like the bands you are mentioning. Not everyone that can manage that.
Extol crushes
WOW someone likes Opeth and isnt afraid to show it
Yes I'm very aware of their first offense of Opeth worship
offense?? lol yo chill
Mulder, is that you? Where the fuck have you been?
the question is, do they like Opeth or Cynic more?
A dash of Extol perhaps too. Speaking of which, Fleshkiller is amazing.
The emotions in the final solo are REAL.
Omg worth the wait, now for the rest of the album
too bad no one will never see this played live 😂
ahahaha
why do say that?
Add to that, UK dates got cancelled too. Fuming!
too bad they didnt break up and was fake news :)
zguion I was mad too! I went to see every band, including Good Tiger because they kick ass (stacked linuep). Man, this so much different.
I'm not a drummer myself and I don't know the name of the drummer, but this guy deserve the Silver Star of drummers for this song omg What a speed to make double triplets
Greetings from Finland. I think this is best metal song, what i have hear. I like this style, normal singing voice, and then aaaaarrrrh, sorry, my english. But very very great song! Everyday i listen, like now with morning coffee. 😍🥰👍
Those cleans in the beginning are fucking amazing. Give me an album like this song
Progressive Death Metal masterpiece
I really dig this. Nothing sexier than a fretless bass sound. I should be mad at the drum mix, but the snare makes it okay. They sound like Mangini's mix on Dream Theater's self titled album, but without that godawful snare.
Daniel Satterfield is brandon playing bass ? Who dis on bass
The feels, man... This entire album. Gad.
OMFG The Faceless just gets better with every release.
.
1:41 "Cash me outide, cash me outside!"
Ahmed Abdelrahman lmao
holy shit cant unhear this now
Why? Why while I'm high, The Faceless?
Need brain ensurance
I'm with ya lmao
this shit is perfect tho
amazing prog death fusion kinda lol
yaukis this is really happening, brother.
geminisolace153 www
yaukis cause ur always gettin high
Awesome
The contortionist and faceless dropping, plus new paramore and john mayer. This year is 🔥 music wise for me 👌
I now have a song to listen to whenever I go visit the Shrine of Azura.
1:54 akeldama riff. Like how they use it with the sublime bass.
Evolution of sound is a good thing. I love this and their old stuff so much.
past two days ive heard this 10 times now. too good guys. i remember when you guys had nothing but skelly merch, when the faceless just had that first ep.
was in the middle of taking a piss and saw it on Justin's instagram and im like "nope not peeing now"
this is probably going to be their best album
This song is just flawless..
three seconds in and in love with this band
I came here for Ken.
They're already unpacking their equipment for tour
ive seen live footage of the guys and they pull it off flawlessly. i want to witness it face to faceless lol
Dude the section at 3:00 is so fucking good. I can't stop replaying it
No words to describe this masterpiece! 👏😭
fuckin' sorceron is straight killing it the on vocals, man.
I can't believe I'm gonna see these guys on the 29th, along with several kick ass bands. I'm so hyped!
Some hate because they maybe don't understand. Some want to hate on you know who but they don't understand the struggle. People with this much music and melody and chaos inside them are in pain. Sometimes they can't get it all out the positive way but we see a glimpse when we hear the music and art they create
0:57 That fucking scream!
fiffi fiififi holy fuck I'm glad someone else noticed. I have been obsessed with that part. Any idea on the lyrics?
Catch me outside?
Jk maybe it's "cast me aside".
I got to see these guys play Planetary Duality in it's entirety, was magnificent. Hope they can figure out a solid lineup. Would be sweet if Lyle Cooper could come back. Dudes a savage
The more I pay attention to the lyrics the more convinced I am this song is about night man
I fucking LOVE the verse riff and vocal package. LOVE IT.
They should stop in SLC, UT on the 18th. I would love to see The Faceless again and Black Dahlia Murder play Nocturnal in it's entirety.
AGREED!!!
Yes yes they should! I'd be there
Would love to see them in SLC again.
I know, fucken cool
Sumerian, if you see this, PLEASE SET UP A UTAH DATE!
Fucking finally!
never been teased by any band as much as The Faceless. still love everything they've done, though.
My life will end before this album comes out.
The Contortionless
SIPPNdrankPUFFNdank the Faceless still have a semblance of heaviness though.
What a stupid comment.
+JustShutUpNWatch haha, dito
I love both The Faceless and The Contortionist.....Been a fan of both bands for a long time, but if you think this is worse than the new The Contortionist single, you must be on crack. The new The Contortionist song was good as a song, but lackluster compared to most of their other material. This mother fucking song kicks major ass, and shows the positive shift that Keene and the band are taking with their music. It's only up from here for The Faceless....Can't say the same for The Contortionist based off of their new single though. When you're a tech metal band that writes a song that sounds like something Thrice would release....Meh
Except the Faceless is more tech and more proggy and it doesn't really sing as much.
sick bowie cover
Haha
This is wonderful.
Slaughter To Prevail = Synthetic Image
The Faceless = Arte Bellisimo.
This is great. I still feel the clean singing is a little over-played, but I'm a self-confessed Planetary Duality fanboy through and through so that might go some way to explaining my position.
Planetary Duality was a masterpiece... this is trying to hard to please a wider audience
Yeah man, good song but nothing compared to The Spiraling Void
the best album ever written in this style of metal..cheers to all the planetless...
The clean singing this time around is really showing blatant Extol influences. lol
this and new CHON
Honestly, it sounds a lot different than their previous work. But I like how the Faceless can change their sound so rapidly and still have it sound so good.
God you did it on this one Michael. Keene as hell, clever boy.
I just never understand this dude's guitar tone
Aaron Treadway dude he got 15 guitar tones
Sounds a bit like pre-production rather than a finished product in my opinion.
i personally like all of them, mid range mid gain compressed kinda tone is my guilty plesure
@@peterbagosi3862 the bass comes through nicely. it actually does its job in providing the lower range rather than having the guitars doing double duty like a lot of newer metal productions.
Oh man, those cleans! ❤
Lyrics someone please?
Been looking aswell bro :(
A new album is what I need.. And an European tour off course... Like any simple human on earth should. Amen
Love it
I didn't know Extol and Enslaved came out with a new song together!
Dopest thing I've listened this month!
I can't seem to stop listening to this.
Yeah man, always a good day when there's a new the Faceless song :)
CHASON WESTMORELAND!!!!!
even know this drumming sounds like alex rudinger , still CHASON!!
sounds like superior drummer lol
will chason be the drummer for this tour? anyone know their lineup?
thats assuming they actually go through with a tour once and for all lol. but yeah i would say chason would be drumming
Drummer on tour might be a MacBook like on this song, lol.
Which album will be out first? New tool album? Or new the faceless album? YOU DECIDE
Faceless without question. Calling it now.
after the new justin chancellor interview, i'd go with tool, despite how half life 3-ish the thing has become
me myself or Necrophagist
Lol at this rate it seems to be a competition between Tool, Necrophagist, and SoaD.
anyone who's shocked by the progginess of this either never heard or totally forgot about autotheism. the faceless's last single and album have already been pretty much headed in this direction for a while now
Jon Gillette my thing is this sounds a little heavier version of a autotheism style of a song. i hoping this new album is a mix of this and songs like the spiraling void.
Those Jack Skelington vocals kill it!
