CUP OF MEPHISTOPHELES // LYRICS
I found a place where nothing can touch me
It seemed so perfect
So unbelievable
Nothing effects me
No one to rush me
When I'm laying in my six foot hole
When did my heaven become this fucking hell?
I quenched my voracity
Indulging myself from the cup of Mephistopheles
An efficacious potion of a puissant poison
Like the sirens' call
Its brilliance and allure are a glittering path to revel in a decadent, sick compulsion
I returned to the chalice to drink again
Enduring a taste so bitter for the sweetest sin
Its virulence has corroded my soul
So desperately begging for completion
Toilsome and arduous
Backbreaking it is to console
One who comes face to face with their own depletion
When did my heaven become this fucking hell?
This paradise comes at a price
So you'll suffer well in a private hell
This paradise comes at a price
So you'll suffer well in a private hell
I quenched my voracity
Indulging myself from the cup of Mephistopheles
An efficacious potion of a puissant poison
Like the sirens' call
Its brilliance and allure are a glittering path to revel in a decadent, sick compulsion
There's a monster somewhere inside
I keep him at bay
I keep him denied
When he wants to come and play
It possesses me when my strength is rendered thin
It caresses me when I'm reveling in sin
I found a place where nothing can touch me
When my strength is rendered thin
It seemed so perfect
So unbelievable
When I'm reveling in sin
Nothing effects me
No one to rush me
When my strength is rendered thin
When I'm laying in my six foot hole
When did my heaven become this fucking hell?

I think this might be their best song. While it’s not “tech metal”, It’s melodically perfect metal while not sounding generic. It’s frighteningly beautiful. The syllable placement of the vocals are so catchy, percussive and black metal sounding. I love this.
It's definitely a song that sounds very theatrical, it's perfect
holy shit keene's vocals unbelievably fits the song
Favorite song off the new album.
Erik Totally agree probably there best song of all time💗😎

Its funny how clean vocals in a death metal band can work when it doesn't sound like a child
Morbid Angel - God of Emptiness
Deathmetal with clean vocals done right
For real dude, have you ever listened to Timeghoul? Crazy vocal harmonies n shit
Jake Himelfarb yeah they're ridiculous
yoooo check out car bomb's latest "Meta"
tatonghudas That song is crazy good.
This album is a masterpiece
i dont know why i get so hard when that fast blackened part at 3:50 sounds like a sped up tape, going into that nasty bass drop. loving all the industrial influence on this album.
keene has seriously outdone himself, I hope he doesn't overdose and die before we see another faceless album lmao
Same bro:D
probably the best new song on the album!
As I scrape my jaw up from the floor, I quickly realize why the first Faceless album hit me so hard. My ears weren't ready, and apparently they still aren't.
I love when people call this album trash, just proves you have no musical ear, such a solid album and I don't want it any other way. Make me wait another 5 years for this "trash" BOiS!
That's honestly my thoughts haha
Any musical ear, or knowledge .... or even good taste . This album it's so perfect harmonically speaking.
Because it's not like someone's taste in music is subjective or something....jeez.
Mathew Scott ... I think you gotta get real lucky to stumble onto a faceless song when you are a hardcore tylor swift fan boi. Just saying.. Mr. Subjective..
Agreed. Can't rush fine art
I feel this song from start to finish. I went through (still going through) opiate addiction to this very day. On Methadone "maintenance" now. These lyric's hit home.
U still on methadone been thinking about going
@@slotraincoscents6870 Yeah both fortunately and unfortunately I still am lol. It's a double edged sword if there ever was one. Grateful for what it's done for me, but scared to all hell to ever get off. If your really thinking about going then weigh all your options first and try Suboxone first if you haven't already.
@@RemmyRiffs Methadone is supposed to help people get off opiates but only makes them become addicted to another very physically and mentally dependent drug. I hope you find peace and are able to stay sober from it all man.
1:50 is just excellent.
Your name is stupid
Killer album perfection
Keenes love for NIN is very apparent on this record
Zach Worlan you mean Extol?
Sacredgeometry and carach angren riffs are mixed in for good measure too
So many influences on this song alone.
Loving this atmosphere and song so much. The industrial vibes are just fitting it perfectly
I am old fart who enjoys Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Megadeth and Slayer. It took me a long time to get into Death and Pestilence. I figured I had already heard everything metal has to offer. I was wrong.
I found this new generation of even more technical, yet great song-writing tech death bands. Gorod, Necrophagist and The Faceless. Although Planetary Duality was my favorite for ages, something about the dark desperation of the addiction hell described here strikes me hard.
Like when you are so consumed all you leave behind is an empty shell… turning into a living ghost. The hints of strings here and there, little nods to prog giants such as Dream Theater, the pieces of computer music thrown in there… very technical and complex, yet logical and very emotional and catchy even. Many familiar pieces but combined in a very unique and original way. Haven’t heard stuff like this too often. Not many can pull off the combination of technicality and catchy melodic quality. This band is making ME faceless. Probably because they melted it with their sublime riffing and soloing.
I know true artists must suffer for their art, but I do hope Mr Keene is doing good and keeps making wonderful music. I hope drugs have not destroyed this guy, he is seriously talented song-writer! Technical players there are many, but real song-writers faaaar less.
Reckon I've put in a solid 400 listens to this so far
you like the part where he raps?
Where the fuck does anyone rap in this song?
from 1:50 on, pretty easy to spot
lol ok, know any more rap music like this you can recommend?
its gay as fuck, like your description of it lmfao. the guy said poignant.... oh look another brand new youtube account. likes 2 faceless songs and subs to Sumerian records. what a loser
Such a masterpiece to write while coming in and out of heroin trance.
Dat haunting melody
It's so pained....
Oh my this song smashes. Pretty mad I missed the last tour.
So I feel like this album was made right after there last release and ended up getting shelved until now. It sounds how music with in this genre did then and isn't "hip" to the sounds of today. That being said I do love this release just as much as everything this band has ever done. Proud of you The Faceless.
ian matthew I agree with you, yeah. It makes a little sense though because it very well MAY have been ready by the time basically everyone but Keene had left by late 2014, and then a new lineup had to come together ever since.
Thomas The Train since I posted that my feelings for the album have only grown. Listen to tracks off it every day
@@bytor75 nah, some of these tracks were written with the newer members. I'd say 80-85% of this is Keene still, but yeah.
It seems like you try n make this point during every song I’ve noticed
I've dreamt those chords.
Amazingly amazing ❤😮
When did my heaven become this fucking hell?!
Has about 4 seconds of an aphex twin feel. Love it.
I encourage everyone to read the lyrics and focus hard on what they mean, applying it to your daily life. It isn't fiction.
Amazing 🤘
Chills. One of the best faceless songs ever.
Definitely fucking worth the wait
1:22-1:29 is such a sick fucking lyric. Just such a relentless rhythm to it. 1:50 sounds like Carach Angren like crazy. Wouldn't be surprised if they were listening to a lot of Carach while recording the album.
That fuckin bass tone
ITS SO GOOD
This is fuckin perfect
Tech Death meets Tim Burton
Well said
I think you mean Danny Elfman, as he writes the music for almost every Tim Burton film.
Holy shit, I've never heard something that so perfectly describes the modern version of this band. LOL
This new album is MASTERPIECE..as always.
The Faceless never dissapoint..and this song is the Best from this album..it reminds me Depeche Mode..
Holy fuck. Probably my favorite song off this album
When The Faceless goes full raw black metal @4:00
Agustin Piussi no
Mathew Scott fuck yeah dude😂😂😂
That spiritual dude If you think that is "raw black metal" I'm not sure you understand the genre.
Mathew Scott man you need a sense of humor
OMEGA LUL
3:18 should've been longer. Love that part
Beautiful
still bumping this in 2020. in quarantine
De las mejores rolas del album!
Junkie poetry at it's finest. This whole album is about heroin but the dark eerie atmosphere it gives off makes this album a masterpiece in my eyes. I don't care if he's on smack or not, this shit is so tight !
Rob Musso thought I was the only one who thought this
I knew as soon as I heard the lyrics it was about heroin addiction and then he came out and said he had a drug problem (heroin). 2+2=4
By far my favorite track on this album, no doubt. Everything comes together in this song perfectly.
It makes the last album make waay more sense to me. I hadn't listened to them in so long cuz I wasnt rly into it. Thank you for your comments and pointing this out, I've listened to the album and read the lyrics a few times now today and not only do I love it as much as akeldama or PD, it made me actually appreciate his cleans. I understand the darkness of the last album now, glad to see the self awareness starting to shine through and bloom again into something incredible. Definitely a despair I can relate to. This song and digging the grave are insanely good, truly holy shit.
Some of the best metal music has been the result of heroin addiction, this is just another masterpiece upon many.
I guess literally anything out now HAS to about heroin does it? We're glad you may have overcome an addiction but newsflash for you. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE ABOUT HEROIN USE
This is fucking badass. I've heard about all of the controversy involving Michael Keene, but that doesn't take away from this being an awesome album.
Welcome back faceless
That álbum is fucking kickass!
@3:50 I love this part
Hilarious to me how everyone says this has a Depeche vibe ONLY bc they also covered them on this album. This intro does indeed sound like DM, but literally no one would be saying this if they didn't look up DM after finding out Shake the Disease is a cover.
couldn't agree more with you!
3:50 More of this plis
That fucking amazing sound. A great musical change
Arguably the best song on the record!
This album is a fucking Master Class of how progressive Death Metal is created. All others hence-forth shall listen to this as a reference.
Oops, you did it again!!! Another master piece!!
I finally figured out what this reminds me of so strongly in an epiphany, years later... Sigh - The Molesters of My Soul
This is lit af, definitely digging this and "I AM"
i feel like this song is about the fucking fans pressuring this band and talking shit. "no one to rush me when im in a 6 foot hole "
it's about his Keene's Heroin addiction. I believe the "no one to rush me" thing is about people being on his ass about putting out new material when he was probably fighting to get clean and needed time away from everything. Not sure how much you may know bout addiction (heroin specifically) but the lyrics in this song are clearly about his battle with addiction. My favorite song on the album btw.
The other tracks on this album are a little iffy. But this one is refreshing as fuck.
Definitely the best one on the album. The rest is a major disappointment unfortunately :(
Well if this isn't one of the best songs by the Faceless.
Beautiful, my favorite off this album.
Yeah I needed this album
Jack Skelington is a bad ass metal singer
This song sounds a lot like something from a dutch band called Carach Angren.
that's what I exactly said in a review .
Agreed.
dude when the piano came in with the high screams. I was like holy fucckkkkk Death came through a phantom ship BOI
But peak Carach. AKA Where the Corpses Sink Forever. Which is why it's masterful compositionally. I'd say this is already even better than that album tbh.
Yeah
Keene is building a whole new genre "despaircore" lol
it seems to me Keene has been heavily influenced by the sounds of Anaal Nathrakh here, and Thantifaxath.
Heroin does that
Despaircore sounds like something out of an emo kid’s notebook. Surely you have a better name for it.
doom metal and suicidal black metal already exist dude...
Heroinecore
GOD DAMN
My head fell off a 3:20 Jesus that was perfect
1:49 reminds me of Dani Filth SO much. I miss high school era COF
THE FACELESS 4 EVER!!!
Astounding
Holy fucking shit i can't stop listening to this please help
great album, and I dig the new vibe
The Faceless is not a death metal alien anymore , now is just the faceless
Loving the new album. 👍
finally.
1:50 Abodement of Spawn of Possession
3:18 remind anyone of the chorus riff in Decapitated's Spheres of Madness?
A bit yep
Welcome back faceless 💚😵
Oh shit! powerful !!!
I listen to the faceless for the singing
Big Willie Style I do too, I’m sure the growls will grow on me since I listen to it for the singing enough. I appreciate everything they have, just not used to the aggressive vocals
Why da hell is this so fuc×+*g great? 😲🤘
Captures
Carach Angren is that you??
This is the best shit from that album.
Reminds me of Autotheism.
I dig it.
Goddamn this track is the shit! Love that crazy tempo.
The Bandless
wow
i feel cradlle of filth in this. eitherway, very fucking good song
The lyrics though
The lyrics are a great reminder to addicts.
Tuesday, August 3, 2021 1:10pm Pacific Standard Time, Listening to Akeldama, Planetary Duality, Autotheism, In Becoming A Ghost EVERYDAY!! ANYONE ELSE?!
This is a piece of art. Giving men testosterone injections since album release
1:21
GETS MY NADS PUMPIN!
We have Depeche Mode at home
Depeche Mode at home:
First minute sounds just like a depeche mode song.
Is that fretless bass I hear? Ooooooo
How can you tell it's fretless?
Jared Wilkerson Because it sounds like a fretless
It's all in the tone .....
Did they get Igorrr to collab on this track?
Great fuckin album!!! Every song on it is kill.
The Faceless in becoming Carach Angren
Depeche Mode meets death metal
Wrong song, lol.
Lol fail
I'm aware this isnt the cover... doesn't change the fact that the style is so similar. This one sounds more like them than Shake the Disease honestly
Hakuna Matata well said!!!
Lol Depeche Mode all the way in the intro for sure!..
When did my heaven become this fucking hell
hear some Carach Angren and Decapitated vibes...
See you tonight fellas
