well, he's not 26 anymore, and more-not-26 now. I spent many nights deafening myself with the studio version on my car stereo. Brett was the energy and the face of the band. And being older myself, I enjoy a washed out Brett, over the, uh, "Green and Bell" show

Perfect example of playing at a radio station. They simply dont know how to mix. What you are hearing is a dry cut straight from the soundboard. Absolutely no compensation for room dynamics whatsoever. No to mention his guitar was not even sent to the recorder, only his vocals. The audience (people present in the room) probably heard something awesome.

At one point, Kevin(the drummer then) had voiced his concerns because they were forced to use backtrack voice tracks and Brett would be lip syncing nearly every song at every show. Brett got kicked from the band, and Kevin left because Carl was running a bad show. I forget the actual reason, but he felt Carl was selling the band out. Fuel was basically nonexistant from 2004-2006 when a new singer and drummer were brought on for the next album, and then that went to shit. Fuel's best albums were the first two, Natural Selection, the third album, was just a bad time for the band. I didn't mind Angels and Devils(fourth album) but basically sold nothing, the band didn't tour at all hardly. Band was dead, then fast forward to about 2010, Brett has renewed the band under "Re-Fueled" and had a side project with the same members called World Fire Brigade which was basically Fuel, but metal. They released Puppet Strings with the whole new lineup, and I actually like the album. It's not "classic Fuel" but it's Fuel. Carl wrote the first three albums, but this is the first album Brett got to write, and you can hear the difference. Brett was only able to really write two songs with the original lineup, and they weren't even apart of any albums, but rather as downloads or "special/extra edition tracks" on select limited edition CDs. In other words, Brett fucked his voice up and got booted for it essentially, and he's been working to restore it, but it's long gone from what it was before.

It's my understanding that Brett was touring under the band name "Refueled" up until Carl Bell left. From then on Brett took over Fuel to go on to put out a 2014 album release. The album was shit IMO. I hope Carl and Brett eventually work together again because the magic is gone when they are apart.

Indeed. Brett doesn't sound nearly as good as he used to. I heard that he smacked his nose on Carl Bell's guitar years ago and had to have a procedure done with his nose and had to relearn to sing, etc. Some the difference may be due to the strain on his vocal chords from all the years of performing. A damn shame as Brett was a stud in his prime.
