All I have to say about wireless is this, David Gilmour, The Edge, and Angus Young all use wireless systems when they play live. They have absolutely killer tones live and if I could afford one of these, I would definitely buy one. I like the integrated tuner and the fact that it finds an unused frequency range. Like the pedalboard friendly receiver too.
The arial on the receiver is the bar on each side of the display window. Another great thing about Digital is it doesn’t compress your sound like an analog wireless does that’s a big difference
The battery indicator on the receiver is for the transmitter battery and I imagine Lee was just using the charge it was shipped with. The receiver does not have a battery option but runs on 9v center negative which I think is about 150ma so can be powered by voodoo labs pedalpower 2 , t-rex chamelion supplies etc.
The main difference between analog & digital is analog compresses the signal to send it then uncompresses it which effects tone. Digital does not compress which gives a better tone.
I've got one unit from GC Orlando a month ago. I've done AB trials against one Monster cable directly plugged into a Marshall head and there is an audible difference in tone for me. Definitely the Shure GLXD16 compresses the sound noticeably adding overall brightness (sort of like a top boost). Not necessarily a bad thing, and you can always compensate with equalization of course. But the feel is different than a cable.
I use the shure pg4, it works great, it sounds 95% like a cable and I can go 30 meters away from the reciver without losing any signal and it was not so expencive,it cost me 1795 swedish crowns, 166,84 in english pounds. I think you dont need to spend so much money on wireess systems anymore. Its very nice to play guitar without a cable that you always stumble on.
Picked mine up from Andertons first shipment last week - Not been out with the band yet but having got it on my board I am very impressed (Not that difficult as my last foray into wireless was a Trantec system in the late eighties which was could for booking taxi's) - No difference that I can tell between cable and wireless and it's working well with my pedals apart from one - Yes you've guessed it, the humble Fuzzface (mini) is not a happy bunny and was introducing Elephant farts into my tone.
Here in the states its illegal to use certain channels some online shops are offering up too 600 dollars us for old wireless systems . I notice less loss of top end drop off from the wireless compared to the cable so almost like a buffer its giving a better signal. Which is nice if im running a passive bass through my pedal board... Simply remove my korg pitchblack from my board and slap this down in its place.
But great video and cool product though, I really don't gig enough to justify buying a wireless system, but I really want one just so I can swagger around my bedroom when I play and without getting tangled around a chair (not very rock n roll)
Thats the transmitter battery indicator and its not a linear indicator - if the 7th light is on (near 12 o'clock) then you have more than 12 hours left (max 16 hours) when it drops to 6 you have more than 10 hours, 5 more than 8 hours, 4 more than 6 hours, 3 more than 4 hours, 2 more than 2 hours, 1 more than 30 mins. A quick 15 minute charge should give you 1.5 hours as an emergency.
In regards to the Fuzzface issue I just mentioned, I think this is more to do with the fact that the first in line Fuzzface does not like the buffer on the wireless and even dropping the output down on the wireless did not improve things. So unless anyone comes up with a solution, the fuzzface is history for now as like fish there are many other fuzz pedals out there and I'd rather have the wireless. Both receiver and transmitter are metal cased and built like the proverbial brick poo house.
The big question: Shure or line 6? Shure's a fair bit more expensive but, from what I can tell you don't need to pick a channel. So if I want something very long lasting which should I pick?
What do pro's use? I worked for a major international sound company providing kit for the biggest bands that you can think of. The only guitar systems requested were Shure, and there's a reason for that.
Manual does not say either way of this is possible but I would guess provided the alternate transmitter is switched off you might be able to have two "paired" ?
I would like to know in, your opinion, what's the best choice: The line6 guitar wireless relay G50 or the G30 vs Shure GLX-16... I Want buy one of those machines but sometimes I don't kno what to do... Sorry my Inglish is not very good... I'm Portuguese... Cheers and congratulations about yours videos, 'im a big FAN... Whating a response... Thanks your atention
nice, but I wonder if they'll ever pair this pedal board receiver up with a multi channel transmitter/receiver?... was just thinking, some pedals are better through an effects loop, while others should go between the guitar and amp. If you had a multi-channel transmitter/receiver on the pedal board (and a multi-channel receiver/transmitter in the amp rack), you could feasibly send certain pedals to the effects loop and leave the others between the guitar and amp without needing a multi-channel snake on the stage. This little box is an evolutionary step for pedal users though :)
I use compressors, distortion pedals, and high gain amps, and I like to crank everything up to 11. Will the analog to digital converter add too much noise to the system? What is the noise floor of the digital systems? I know I could use a noise gate but that will kill my sustain. Ideally it would have a noise floor of less than -100 dB, as that seems to be good for most high gain situations.
This is an old video so I doubt anyone will see this but... Surely the pedal board application is only a benefit if your pedals are in front of the amp. If you're running through an effects loop surely you'll still need 2 cables for the pedal board, actually 3 if you want this on your pedal board (wireless from guitar to board, cable from receiver to amp, then 2 cables for effects loop) Someone please tell me if I've got that wrong
TC Electronic Tone Beam ( the app that lets you download settings and beam them from your phone to the TC pedal through you pickups) does not work through it! I don't know if this is true for all digital wireless systems, but I suspect it is.
It's more expensive than the G50 but I don't think the G50 has a tuner so this just replaced the space on my board that the tuner used. I also did'nt like the two antenna sticking out of the G50 which are bound to get kicked off - The antenna on the Shure are built in which I guess may reduce the range a bit but how far are you gonna go from your board ?
So if this was plugged into a power supply the whole time, why did the battery drop from five to four lights during the demo? Was the demo shot out of order, or was something else going on? I can't imagine the receiver was using power faster than the power supply could charge it. Or did I misunderstand, and that battery readout on the receiver is how much juice is left in the transmitter connected to the guitar?
Hey..can you do a review on the ATW 1501 system 10 stompbox wireless system... and how does it compare to the relay g50 by line 6....? Bdw love your videos... informative and fun.. thanks
You made a comment that with this system avoids a cable going from the pedals to the amp and back. If the transmitter is on the pedal board, how does the sound get to your amp without wires? Thks.
strat - man - do what are you talking about? It's the most practical system ever, just plug it into your board and run a lead from your last pedal to the amp. Couldn't be easier!
I agree, that's why I have been using one for the past two years and even bought another beltpack so that I don't have to change straps when changing guitars on stage. My point is that the receiver goes on the pedalboard; the transmitter goes on the guitar strap. It's a small and maybe trivial point but many people view these videos to get informed on what to buy, and the point of a demo from a guitar shop is to give accurate information. The captain really should know better.
Hi Darren. I assume that you use a GLX16D. They're great aren't they. Shure are the market leaders for a reason, they are rock solid with absolutely no interference. I put my laptop and mobile phone on top of my receiver and had no issues whatsoever. I even sat it next to a wireless router with no problems.
All I have to say about wireless is this, David Gilmour, The Edge, and Angus Young all use wireless systems when they play live. My GLXD16 arrived this morning from Andertons and I've got to say it's Awesome,
Extensive testing at rehearsal room last night - Absolutely NO change in tone from cable at all even standing otherside of a breeze block wall
Thanks for the feedback, Its always good to hear about the products being used in the real world.
You can also keep it in tuner mode so u can quick tune in between song's

not the other way round?

you are still on a cable and still tied to the guitar true wireless would be for example the U2 Xvive or the joyo jw-01 system as well
Just got one, my good buddy is a pro bass player who uses this and if he recommends it, its a great product!! I can not wait to play a gig it!!!
Captain touches his nose 81 times... I counted 😜

my whole band uses them.. they are great.

littletardis hows the pedal holding up now? Is it still giving you a strong reliable connection?

Correction - The power requirements of the receiver is 250ma minimum to 400ma maximum 9v centre negative.

Hey, thanks for this awesome informative video. Just the thing I need for my bass!! :)
Oh and something I don't think Lee mentioned - a 15 minute charge will give 1.5 hours playing time if it does run flat according to Shure.
Great review.

Peter Wilson Shure also has a built-in tuner. That's more room on the pedal board.
+Paul Mitten (mbvglider) And work on rechargeable battery ! That's really really great !

+Frederico Silva Built in tuner and lithium-ion battery... I'd go for the shure !

Please make a demo with bass guitar, i wanna know what it sounds like using bass guitar,. Tnx
I love my GLXD !
Arrrrggg! I want that blue Strat! (I mean the wireless thing is cool too...) What is that model/color?
I use compressors, distortion pedals, and high gain amps, and I like to crank everything up to 11. Will the analog to digital converter add too much noise to the system? Andrei-Lucian Șerb 100 dB? That's more SNR than any analog system in the world. Even CDs top out at 96 dB.
Freeeeeeedom

Buy two. One from guitar to pedals, one from pedals to amp.
if the signal in the wirelss is distorting, it wont work well.. it needs a clean signal in
TC Electronic Tone Beam ( the app that lets you download settings and beam them from your phone to the TC pedal through you pickups) does not work through it! I don't know if this is true for all digital wireless systems, but I suspect it is.
Factory recommends to use a 9 to 15 V source. Do you think it would make a difference in sound and performance if you used one or the other?
where is chapters? if rob were doing a vid alone. id ask wheres the captain?

Just ordered one of these because I'm tired of the dropouts from my Line 6.
hE KILLED THE SELL 30SECONDS INTO THE VIDEO! pOUR SELECTION OF person to do the job
Hey..can you do a review on the ATW 1501 system 10 stompbox wireless system... and how does it compare to the relay g50 by line 6....?
Bdw love your videos... informative and fun.. thanks
Question. In the menu function, is there a way to adjust the gain?
yes there is ,, -20 db to + 40 in 1 db increments
👍👍
Line 6 G50 or Shure GLX-D16??? Give me some feedbacks.
83 metres is bloody great
You made a comment that with this system avoids a cable going from the pedals to the amp and back. If the transmitter is on the pedal board, how does the sound get to your amp without wires?
Thks.
nevillegreg1 Well you still have to have a pedal snake running to your amp anyway. He's talking about not having to go to AND from the amp.
is that an American Stratocaster? doesnt look like from the neck, cuz they have 22 frets...
If I visit Andertons would I meet the captain or chappers?
How is this compared to the Line 6 Relay G50, another pedal board digital wireless system :)
gain so much tone with a normal cable
Great vid
I'm can hear a little hiss when playing clean channel, can't hear it with the cable ? Anyone had similar experience ?
can this keep up with playing fast?
RUclips transcription (1:07) "why's it gotta run all the way from iraq back across the pedals"
When you going to review acoustic guitars
So at 1.18 the transmitter goes on the pedalboard? Doesn't seem to practical to me.
strat - man - do what are you talking about? It's the most practical system ever, just plug it into your board and run a lead from your last pedal to the amp. Couldn't be easier!

Could you and Rob please do a sound like Pete Townshend
HOLD UP!!!!! How far can it be away from the adapter?????
200 feet
To my ears the wireless had just a bit less bass an less warm tone then the cord,
Benjamin Green to my ears it sounds exactly the same!
Damn 3 min in someone remind me never to buy from Andertons Music!
ROFL!! oh man, them captions..
Hear it now on my vids
Wireless ?
Normal system need 1 cable, wireless need 2 cables, lol
And?
No.
definitely lost high end definition with the wireless.
SECOND
Talk to much
