It was time to step up from my Line 6 G30, and my guitarist loves his, so I went and ordered one today. STOKED to get it! Pretty cool space saver with the tuner.
Just bought this unit for my bass rig. You definitely have the best review of this product I seen so far. In the past 7 years I've went through (2) XD2 units, which where awesome, until the transmitters failed. I do tend to be hard on them as the clips suck they would fall off or setting my bass on the stand they would magically get hung up on everything while putting the bass back on. I really like the tuner on the GLX-16. I was looking at the Sure PGX-14 plus a Peterson strobe, but, those together would have been $100 more. You are correct the GLX-16 is built like a tank! Thanks for the run through!
+Lance Mitchell Have you noticed any low frequency loss? I'm seriously considering buying one of these this week. I've used a line 6 G30 for the past 2 years and although I love the tone and powerful signal I get from it, I've had to deal with too many things either breaking or coming loose on it. I'm done with Line 6 and want the next one I buy to not only sound fantastic but also to last for many years. (I'm not rough on my gear at all, so for L6 to break this easy says a lot about their quality)
+Mike Parks hey Mike, like I mentioned, I went through 2 XD pluses over the last 6 or 7 years and the cable connection is sketchy it cuts out if your rough on your gear which I kind of am. beings I run sound for a band and play bass I need to be off stage a number of times as our guitar players all have volume pedals imagine that. It seems like as soon as I say, sounds perfect out there, you can watch them hit their volume pedal go figure. however back to the topic I find the tone is just as good as being plugged in especially in a live setting where there's lots of noise. the receiver is a metal stompbox which also has a strobe tuner which can be set to mute while you're tuning or it will tune as you're playing. The transmitter is a very nice set up, feels like metal, no parts hanging out and clips very well and tight to your strap I have never had it fall off. The Stomp box also has an on-off switch so you don't have to worry about unplugging it every time if you use it for practice which I do. I played three four and a half hour gigs with it on one charge. I totally love this system and I would buy it again in a heartbeat if it was stolen because I doubt it will break unless I throw it against the wall. one of our guitar players really loves it and would love to buy one when he gets a few bucks up.
There is also a built in pad for audio output that you did not mention. Turn on transmitter and once link is established press mode until db appears then use up/down buttons to adjust -20 to +20. This is very important to set properly so as not to over drive the gain stage of your amp. I play bass and have mine set to -10db because all my pickups are hot. Your mileage may vary.
I love the wireless I have one however let me say... for that price there should be a much better clip for the wireless transmitter, better quality wire connector and they should include a 90 degree plug alternative too for Les Pauls and such. The straight jack plug can break on a V or Explorer or strats with jacks on the side, Les Pauls, etc..., it's bothersome and can break and damage your guitar jack too.
ANYONE notice any tone loss with this system? I've been using the Line 6 G50 for years and its amazing for tone replication, im concerned about even the slightest bit of tone loss. Any help would be great, thanks!
I wanted to check in with you regarding wireless setup as it relates to acoustic guitars and whether you think its a natural 1:1 type of relationship (a good wireless system for electric translates to acoustic) or whether there is a system that works specifically better for acoustic.
I got this for my rig and it’s just awesome the way it’s integrated into the tuner, It has a great battery and operates very well the only thing is that the transmitter should come with a 90° jack instead of just a straight. I I got a SP 400 90° jack and spliced it in and it works great . I would definitely recommend this unit I think it’s awesome… Keep on rocking…
Amen man! I see all these wireless companies building straight plug systems. 1, Who wants a transmitter stick sticking out of their guitar? 2, make 90 degree plug options! I'm right there with you on that one man! I want the system to be hidden out of sight and out of mind.
9:30 YourGuitarSage: Some people prefer strobe tuners, 'cause they believe that they're more accurate. Me: Which is true, strobe tuners are more accurate than needle, because needle tuners are jumpy while tuning the instruments from flat side to sharp side and the tuning accuracy indicates in ±1/±2 cents of accuracy, unlike the strobe tuners is very smooth tuning, no jumpy display, repeatable and ±0.1 cents accuracy (1/1000 fret).
I want to buy the Shure GLXD16 but I´m concerned with the interference with wifi or smartsphones in small bars and locals that use the 2.4Ghz band as well. Anybody has had any problems or dropouts with that?
Can you use another power supply to power the receiver? For example a Voodoo Lab pedal power? That's what I have on my pedalboard, it's a 9v power supply. Or is it better to use the power supply that came with the receiver?
With some wireless units, as the signal from the guitar dropsdown, like when hanging on to a chord to let it sustain for a long time, a compander or similar circuit inside the transmitter kicks in and starts boosting the signal. Problem is, this usually means a fair bit of noise comes right along for the ride into your amp. How quiet is this when the player is playing lightly, holding a long note or chord? tx
From what I understand from Shure, because this is a digital system there is no companding. I just purchased this system and have no issues with noise when playing quietly or sustaining a note.
I have a question I just bought the GLX-D and it did not display right out of the box as far as the led lights for power. Also the rf light kept blinking the hold time while programming it. My main concern is I wasn’t able to get the audio to play through the wireless can you please help
Absolutely solid and reliable. Just spend the money and quit messing with the other cheap alternatives! Plug this into a LR Bagg's Para Acoustic DI and XLR out into the house. That's all you need. Best $600 you'll spend!
May I ask if you have tried it in a pedal chain primarily at the start of a 8-10 pedal unit. I have experienced signal and static problems (noise) with similar units. Regards Kev
I just got one of these and I have it in front of 7 (not including the GLXD) pedals and so far I haven’t found/heard any noise problems. I imagine then that you should be fine with an extra pedal or so.
I just got one of these.. did a gig last night and only walk about 2 meters away and it was dropping out? Is that normal for these? My line6 I could walk to the other end of the same hall. Any help would be great.

Hey! I'll just call you sage, but I was thinking and I watch your videos a lot by the way, thanks for all of your helpful tips. But I thought that maybe you and Schwartz should get together and jam and possibly some video lessons. Just a suggestion but I think it would be really cool and probably would draw a bigger amount of viewers for you and Schwartz. Thanks! His channel is martyzsongs.
Eric Giroux I've used it with a SR5 works great. Works a lot better than old wireless systems. It goes down to 20hz so you do t get that low frequency shelving you get with older systems when you're down on the low B
Just got this and I'm having trouble with the tuner, it's reading very flat even though when I tune on a Boss and a Korg tuner it's perfectly in tune. Anyone else having trouble with this? All the tuning features are set to standard and 440.
YourGuitarSage ended up doing a reset and it works. That dot that appears when it’s set for detuning was showing even though I was set for standard. Hopefully the reset solved it for good. Thanks
On te receiver, actually, although its the transmitter's gain level. Hold the Mode button until the letters dB will appear. Press Up or Down to adjust the dB signal. It goes from starting point 0, and it has an adjustment range from -20 dB to +40 dB, in 1 dB increments.
I have my Shure arriving today and was looking for advice on how to set it up .. You have the best review ,,, A question before it gets here ,,,,,, I normally plug my cord into my Wah on the far right of my Pedal Train Board . So what you mean is to move my Wah over and place it in that slot where the Wah pedal was ? Is that what you mean by the closest to my guitar ? That is my first slot to go IN .
Digital Creatives UK i use it for bass. So I'd assume it would work for acoustic. It's 20hz-20k frequency range. I'm trying to find out if I can buy a second transmitter so I can leave my transmitters attacked to my straps on both basses.
I'm looking for a wireless system. I'll likely buy Shure but its because of their robust build quality. Not because of that awful red dot screen, come on man (are we back in 1985) Build the shit for the 21st century!
The battery pack cord is crap! Had it replaced once already. Had to send to NY, they sent to Asia, back to NY and back to me. Also the clip should be better and updated, AND the 1/4 jack sucks because it's good for any strat BUT if you have a Les Paul or Flying V you're looking at about 2 inches of jack jutting out. At least they should include an adaptor battery cord JACK WITH a 90 degree jack. You can get a cord with such for too much online from 20 to 40/50 bucks !!! Guys, buy yourselves a 90 degree adaptor to plug your Les Paul or V. About 8 bucks at GC... 8 bucks too much if you already paid close to 5 hundred...they should include !!! One more time, battery pack cable is shit and flimsy. Other than that....good product.

They make a 90 for it at sweetwater
Very helpful review. I just got one of these and after watching this I’m now ready to go with the system. Thank you!
Great! Thank you. Yes, great unit.
@@yourguitarsage indeed. Have it in front of about 7 pedals, and so far haven’t experienced any noise, ground loops, etc. 👍🏽
I will be buying this as soon as possible
Let me know & stay in touch Micah.

such a great video man, this sold it for me and i’m more than happy with my purchase!
Great review, bought the unit haven’t used it yet, thank you for the info, was very helpful

How conveniently does the tuner work along with a volume pedal? Can I see the battery level while also tuning with the volume down?
no but when initially turned on it displays the battery level.
Can i use one transmitter with two receivers?
I want to buy the Shure GLXD16 but I´m concerned with the interference with wifi or smartsphones in small bars and locals that use the 2.4Ghz band as well. Anybody has had any problems or dropouts with that?
I used this at a VFW hall that had WiFi. 100 people, most with phones. GLXD was set to group 4. Absolutely no interference.
No dropouts either
Do you have to use the wall wart? Or can you plug it into an isolated power supply under a board?
would be cool if the cable came as a right angle jack
👍
Can you use another power supply to power the receiver? For example a Voodoo Lab pedal power? That's what I have on my pedalboard, it's a 9v power supply. Or is it better to use the power supply that came with the receiver?
I would like to see a comparison, between this and the G50.
Nice wireless connection by shure
Thanks for the review but there is the channel group thing that you haven't talked about...
The tuner is only for 6 strings guitar or 12 strings guitar also?

How does it hold up against shock? Mainly the receiver part...for guitarists that like to jump around on stage.
I have not broken it yet. Seems very sturdy.
Will it work with active pickups or stereo guitars?

No, it should not be doing that. I would call tech support. You probably have interference or need to switch channels.

is there any delay problems with it?
Hi
Can you tell me if there's any difference with transmission if I have a bass with active pickups (Musicman) and another one not (Yamaha)? Thanks!
Should be no difference.

Hello, I'm very curious if is there any dynamic response feel differences between cable and wireles (maybe well noticable on all valve amp) ?
I've used cables and wireless for years and have never noticed a difference. Angus Young swears by his wireless system as part of his sound.
Works with active pick-ups?
Great video! How much is latency of glxd16? Thanks!
I don't notice any latency

David Robledo it’s been forever so I forgot. Should be in the manual or just look up the manual online.
What would you say is the best wireless system?
I would have to try them all and have not, but this one is great.
I think it's better if they made the quarter-inch right angled.
you can't do right angle won't work on all guitars but a very easy fix with a soldering iron and a right angle male 1/4 inch replacement
michael lee Or for $10-15 you can just buy the right angle version of the cord on eBay rather than void your warranty.
Vin Helsing you could buy your own cable.
Is there a "gain setting" adjustment anywhere on the bodypack or the receiver?
