In 1985 the Blue Jays were up 3 games to 1 in the ALCS. Should have been over but then Brett woke up. As a young Jays fan back then he broke my heart. Might be the best hitter that I have seen in my lifetime.

None of us know these people, unless you happen to be friends with one of them. They are part of the same human condition that the rest of us our. He made a great speech, he seems like someone who is profoundly thankful for the people around him. Maybe GB was not the most humble of athletes, but this ceremony certainly brought him down to earth for those few minutes, hours or days.

I was a Yankees fan, but he was probably my favorite player because I respected him for his ability, especially in the clutch. I kind of rooted for him against the Yankees. I started getting baseball cards at age 7 in 1976 and remember the rush when opening a pack and finding his card with the "AL Allstar" label on it. Thanks for the memories. You should be so proud of yourself and everything that you represent.

I’ve been an avid baseball memorabilia collector all of my life. A few years ago I got the opportunity to buy George Brett’s Hall of Fame Induction Speech suit. I probably spent more than I could afford, but I figured since I didn’t drink, smoke, or chase women, that there could be a lot worse that I could spend my money on. As a collector, I always liked limited edition items. Well, what hangs in my clothes closet is about as limited as you can get - 1 of 1, and it’s autographed by George Brett!

I am a White Sox fan and met Charlie Lau while he was coaching with Chicago. I read his book the art of hitting 300. I read it so many times and took the philosophy of Mr. Lau's way of hitting. Charlie was a legend in teaching hitting. My favorite Sox player was Harold Baines a student of Charlie. However my favorite player of all time is George Brett.

Some say Schmidt was the greatest third baseman of all time. I must admit, they are probably right. But George Brett was a pretty damn close 2nd best third baseman of all time. Brett was "Mr. Clutch". Just so sad that he will be remembered for the Pine Tar Incident, the 1980 World Series hemorrhoid episode, "shitting his pants" story he told to a rookie in spring training, and always being a jerk to fans (refusing to give autographs and take pictures with fans).

    • @erichaynes7502
      @erichaynes7502 5 лет назад +3

Brett thank's god for the Pine Tar incident, he says otherwise nobody would remember that day, that game. Brett thanked the fans for his hemorrhoid ordeal by hitting a home run in his at bat at KC in the World Series. His shitting his pants story is the truth and it's hilarious, even Brett thinks so. Brett wouldn't sign autographs or take pictures because the selfish parents were using their kids in a bad way. Brett is one of the few baseball players ever to get over 3,000 hits, he probably would be ranked in the top 5 of all time if he wouldn't have played balls to the wall and got hurt so many times. But then, if he played it safe he wouldn't have been George Brett.

Schmidt played in a near bandbox for 81 games a year for 18 years. Brett played in a bigger Major League park. Schmidt hit
.267 with tons of empty outs, strikeouts..
BRETT in 1980 struck out 21 times and hit 24 homers in 117 games, driving in 118 runs and slugged .660+ with an OPS over 1100..batted five to six hits shy of .400. In jist a little over 500+ plate appearances.
He did that as a third baseman on the d.l. four times, missing over a fourth of the season.
He tied the '76 ALCS GAME 5 DECIDER in the eighth in NY AT YANK STAD. with a three run homer. He hit a three run jack to give KC A 4-2 lead AT YANK STAD. in game three of KC V. NYY , which gave KCR a sweep IN '80. He hit three homers against NYY in game two of '78's ALCS at Yankee Stad.
He went 4 for five with two homers in '85's ALCS IN KC V. TORONTO, and made the defensive play of the game down the third baseline on a smash by the lineside of the bag while in one motion threw the BLUE JAY out at the plate, a run that would have tied game 3 with TBJ leading 2w-0 already. We won it in seven..
He won three batting titles, is top ten in doubles, #1 all-time for a 3b, top twenty in triples, one of only four who finished his career with 300 jacks, 3000 hits .300
(.305) average= also MAYS, MUSIAL AND AARON..
SCHMIDT would have hit more than 317 homers as Brett did if he played in KC, but if BRETT played in Philly, he would have, too.
WHILE AT PHIL. SCHMIDT WON A W.SERIES AND ONE OTHER LEAGUE PENNANT.
BRETT WON A W. SERIES, AND TWO LEAGUE PENNANTS. BRETT WON the same amount of division titles, 6.5 to 6.5..and was MVP once, and top five five times. SCHMIDT won MVP THREE TIMES was in the top five six times..Schmidt was a better fielder than Brett, although SCHMIDT was not as rangy..
BRETT 3154 HITS, SCHMIDT not nearly that many, almost a 1000 less= 2234, in only four fewer seasons. Both had almost 1600 RBI, Brett had slightly more with not nearly the talent around him that Schmidt had..Schmidt= BOWA, ROSE, MADDOX, MC BRIDE, G. MATTHEWS SR. LUZINSKI, BOONE AND TRILLO, CASH, HEBNER AND LONNIE SMITH..
WHILE BRETT HAD WHITE who did not hit until the last half of his career, MCRAE, OTIS, PORTER FOR TWO SEASONS, PATEK good field, not hit; ROJAS AT HIS very END, HURDLE WHO HAD TWO DECENT SEASONS, COWENS two decent years, PAQUETTE, WILSON, SUNDBERG, BIANCALANA, MAYBERRY FOR ONLY TWO DECENT SEASONS, SUNDBERG, LACOCK FOR ONE SEASON, AIKENS FOR TWO DECENT SEASONS..STINSON, SLAUGHT, MOTLEY. L.SMITH, ETC, ETC..
BRETT was just as good or slightly better.
W.A.R. 107-SCHMIDT, BRETT 88 BUT BRETT missed 450 games with injury in his career, and Brett played in 2400 games, Schmidt about the same.
Schmidt missed less than 130-150 games on the d.l., had '81 playing only 2/3rds of the season due to labor issues, same with BRETT..
Let Brett play 300 more games off the injury list, and count the hits, and the rbi..and put Schmidt on the list 300 more times, and minus the homers and rbis.
Then, adjust for the parks, and look..

I had to plagiarize a bit from this to do my brothers wedding toast.
    For Matt’s wedding…
Hello everyone. I hope you’re all having a good time and I thank you all for coming to such a lovely event. For those of you who are not acquainted with me… my name is Kevin Patrick Bryant. I’m the younger brother of the groom here this afternoon Matt Bryant. As you can clearly see, not only did I get the better looks in the family- but I also have a tailor. (Lol)
I’m the one that used to call Matt’s girlfriends in high school to break up with them because our voices were so similar and Matt is a big pussy. I’m the kid that my big brother defended in the schoolyard. The one that he took to the ballpark. The DNA lottery winner that got to benefit from someone going first in all aspects of growing up and following suit.
Matthew. Disciple of Jesus. Gospel writer. Patron saint. My brother is not any of these. But he’s still my idol…same as he was when we were just little boys. Growing up, I only knew one person as my friend, my mentor, my inspiration and my partner in crime. From the first memories I have on this earth, all I ever wanted, in every facet of life, was to be half the person Matthew was. That goal turned out to be fruitful to both of us. We pushed each other. We competed in every possible way. We drove one another to be the best we could be. As I stand here today I can honestly say I wouldn’t trade siblings for a million dollars.
There was a time that Matt wasn’t quite the person we know him as today. I’m sure he’d be the first to admit it. He went through a selfish spell like many of us do. Cars and money and status and popularity were important to my older brother for a short period. And then something happened. A miracle of sorts. The birth of my favorite person of all time. Matt’s daughter Tiffany entered this world. And I saw, with my own eyes, a transformation that could only be justified by this newfound god send. His faith in our lord was restored. His priorities changed. He once again became the man I only wished I could be half as good as. Life can play tricks on us like that sometimes. The guy that taught me how to throw a breaking ball or go deep on fourth down and one had inexplicably softened
I’ve learned the hard way in the past year that the two best fathers in the history of mankind were ironically named “Matt Bryant”.
One of them cannot be here with us today because he’s in a better place… the other is sitting right over there. Being a father is no easy task as I’ve found out recently, and the two best I’ve ever seen at it share the same denomination. Matthew, Tiffany and myself lived together in a tiny apartment for many years and we grew together. We loved together. We suffered together. We did everything together because that’s all we knew.
Then Kim came along, about a decade ago. I saw the two of them slowly and surely fall in love. Most of Matt’s prior girlfriends only dated Matt to get closer to me… (lol) but this was different. Kim brought a structure, a stability and an affection for Matt that was unprecedented. Her children became his and Kim was always good to me, my son, my wife and my niece. I’ll take that as a win and I’ll double down on the fact that in this life I only wanted to be half the person my brother was. I think we all won with a goal so seemingly unachievable.
Good luck to two of the most wacky, awesome beautiful people I’ve had the pleasure of being involved with in the crazy yet wonderful universe.

+SUPERSPORTS Maybe. But Brett had 100 more home runs than he did and almost 1000 more hits. Matting had more Gold Gloves, but Brett had more batting titles. Brett was the AL Batting Champion more times than Mattingly, had 7 more All Star appearances, and had almost 500 more RBIs than Mattingly. Statistically, Brett was the better play in almost every category. So, why doesn't Brett deserve to be in the HOF? Obviously the HOF voters know something we don't because Mattingly never made it after 15 ballots, whereas Brett made it into the HOF on his first ballot after getting 98.19 percent of the votes.
If there is anyone Mattingly should have replaced in the HOF, it's Craig Biggio. not Brett.

    • @blaq7427

You keep looking at totals. Brett played 7 more years than Mattingly .
Mattingly was the best player in baseball for about 4 years then he hurt his back and his career was never the same . Brett is a classic compiler . He was never a real dominant player. He had a few really good years but most of his years were just good or average.
