i member how hard this game got. those fukn knights sucked. they take so much damage n would get so many hits off it was completely unfair how often they would kill me
As bad as this game was man those battle themes are bang'n!! MOst of the reason why i played it as a kid, that and because Spawn is awesome. Too bad this game wasn't
This game could have been much cooler if they nailed down the fighting mechanics better. They could have also added a few more cool extras like perhaps the Clown character, taunting Spawn throughout the levels. Popping up from different corners, etc, to help break the monotony of the game. Make you laugh as you go along, so you don't fall asleep on the game. Maybe a little speech between Spawn and the goons and bosses, so it feels more alive and interactive. This game just wasn't developed well, but it had potential. It's playable, yes. It has great eerie ambient music and sounds. The graphics sort of fits the theme. But it does get tedious after a while because it lacks creative missions. Every level, is basically the same as before, but with different textures. The only great thing about this game, is the jewel case booklet. It's actually pretty nice. lol.
I agree, it had potential. If McFarlane had been as involved with the game as much as he was with the animated show, I have a feeling it could have been amazing. I agree about the music: dark, atmospheric, and very creepy, especially the alley music and the medieval graveyard music. It gave the game a very macabre feel, exactly how Spawn is SUPPOSED to be. I also agree about Clown/Violater. If they had waited a decade or so, when motion capture became a thing, they could have gotten an actual actor to play him, like the Resident Evil games. Since Violater always returns in the comics after being defeated, he could have shown up unexpectedly repeatedly, kinda like Nemesis in RE3. But, as everybody here keeps saying, the game had no plot, but what if this whole thing, traveling through time and different dimensions, was a cruel challenge by Malebolgia, if Spawn wanted to 'earn back' his soul? Perhaps if the game had better voice acting, we'd have understood what Malebolgia had been saying, lol. So yeah, mediocre game at best, but if it had been made a few years later, by a better studio, and actually had McFarlane attached, it would have been epic.
@@zeadaltaee Ironically, this might be the popularity boost Spawn has been needing for companies to go "I want to make a big budget Spawn adventure game."
You kind of gotta hand it to these people. They're all willing to just go mano y mano with this dude clad in black, red, and covered in spikes with nothing but their fists.
I actually liked this game. The fights were brutal and unforgiving, the way I like them. Plus I loved the music, and the dark, gothic atmosphere of the game world. Sure the graphics were shit, but what did you expect from a 90s game? I think more people should have given it a chance.
I remember looking forward to this game sooooo much back in '97, and then having my hopes totally crushed by how craptacular it was. I should've known it was going to suck when the only way they could find to market it was, "Hey! You can rip peoples' arms off!".
I actually love this game maybe because I'm a big Spawn fan either way I like it I like the music I like the atmosphere and I like just the graphics overall but the controls definitely has some issues.
Superman 64: Fly through rings, mission, boss fight, fly through rings again, mission again, another boss fight Spawn: This but a 1/2 fighting game on the PS1
Me too. I know lots of people knock it cause they think it's bad, but I liked it: it had a dark, creepy atmosphere. And the music: Omg, I can definitely picture that street music being used in a haunted house attraction on Halloween.
The medieval level always creeped me out as a kid: the music, the enemies (especially the werewolves), the traps, plus the whispers when you enter the church. Now that I'm older I think it's cool. Reminds me of the voices of the island on Lost. I could never pass that part with the chasm though, so I could never make it to the final room with the warlock. Again this game could really use a remake, with a real story, cutscenes, voice acting, and better controls. With the new movie and TV series reboot on the way it'd be awesome.
i hated the fukn medevil stage cuz those damn Knightz were such a pain in the ass to beat cuz they'd dish out so much punishment it was ridiculous. although i find it quite kool Spawn dawn's his Medevil attire very dope😎🔥🤟🤟
One thing I especially like it's how you play through the different Spawns Throughout the years of existence I find unique and honestly I would rather play a game like this then the games we get on PlayStation 4 maybe I'm just old school like that.
i know i loved this game me and my dad beat it back in 97 or 98 when I was 7. its definitely an interesting style of how they went about the world and such. it gets alot of hate tho and looking back it looks really horrible but back then it was good to us
Remember when I used to play Spawn the video game on Snes, it was actually a cool game for the time. Years later I played this and I remember being horrified by what shitty game it was. Everything about it is awful, they didn't even get the character right, I mean look at him, he looks like Bane In a bdsm outfit
Yeah, owning this game back during its year of release I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy Castlevania: Symphony of the Night instead. At least for a simple 2D game it had depth, unlike this garbage.
Ah the good ol days when I’d buy games like this for $4 in Walmart bargain bin. Sometimes I’d buy 4 of them when GameStop had a deal “trade 4 for new release.” They’d still be in shrink wrap and they’d treat me like a shoplifter. Late 90’s we’re wild
This game was fucking awful, but I still played the shit out of it because I love Spawn. Can you imagine if they'd given this to the guys who made Soul Reaver? Would have been fucking mind blowing.
lol smile that's a good story so funny to the people that played and owned both games. I would be pissed off. Spawn gameplay should switch with metal gear solid. But if it did, then metal gear would not be a franchise.
All these enemies Spawn fights in this game, like the Medieval enemies or the cavemen, are they characters from the comics? If so, who was the boss from the Medieval realm based on?
Medieval Spawn was from the comics. You see him fight Violator, and get murdered by Angela. I'm actually disappointed that the medieval stage boss wasn't Angela, she gets the shaft in EVERY adaptation.
@@NarwhalEntertainment Probably due to (at the time) the legal battle between who owned the character. Nowadays they definitely can't use her, as Marvel owns the rights to the character.

That would be great if they were to make a Spawn video game where you finally kill violator and Malabogia the ruler of Hell and you get to see Wanda and Cyan again as Al Simmons 😇📿👊
I really want to get a weekend or something, and try to play this game again, this time knowing about the fucking super moves . As a kid I had no idea what the fuck I was doing. The soundtrack actually makes it pretty creepy, one of the redeeming parts of this game.
I played this as a rental. I knew NONE of the special moves because some dingus lost/stole the only set of instructions, but i did learn how to swap the cape for chains and I accidentally ripped a guy's arm off. i finally died when I found a midget shortly after the violator fight. Couldn't hit him.
I played this game probably around 97 or 98 cuz I was such a huge spawn fan. I rented it from the local video rental store (remember those?) for seven days. It was unplayable. I think they should have called the game Spawn The Eternal box kicker.
Outside The Game yeah!
Bahaha I kept pushing the arrow to skip ahead, and almost every time it started with a box kick.

I really feel sorry for Spawn. For such a badass character he always end up getting the short end of the stick when it comes to games and movies.
this game still plays on my nightmares.....
Very atmospheric, like Duke Nukem at the time.
when i was 7 i play this and i really liked. i am a huge spawn fan. sounds and places are too scary.. i know its a bad game but i got so memories :)
Hey, “bad” is just opinion. If you had fun playing it, then it wasn’t bad. I also loved it when I was a kid bro.
Spawn is such an awesome character. I always wonder why they don't develop more games for him.

better ones anyway. He only good in cameos.

This game joins the list of failed movie to game list. You should check out Blade for ps1 as it belongs also to that list.
I must admit: The only thing formidable well animated are the chains of the logo in the intro. I could bet that all the budget was spent on it 😂 😂 😂
